BANGOR, Maine — A puppy is missing on the streets of Bangor after bolting from its family Wednesday night.
Rooster, a 6-month-old Aussie mix, escaped Wednesday night from the Petco on Stillwater Avenue, according to a dog rescue organization called Pack Life. The organization says Rooster is probably very scared and recommends against yelling at him or trying to chase him. Instead, scooch down low and call him calmly or pretend to jog away to see whether he will chase. Rooster also likes other dogs and may be willing to greet a dog before a person.
Pack Life has set up dog food stations in the area and asks that they be left alone. They are being checked multiple times a day. The organization has notified local authorities, shelters and veterinarians but as of Thursday night there were no reported sightings of the dog.
Anyone who sees Rooster is asked to call Cassie at 754-5757 or email cassandra@packlife.org.

Sure Hope They Find Him Before He Gets Hurt Trying To Find His Way Back Home…Poor Sweetheart…
Poor little Rooster. He’s probably scared out of his poor mind. Maybe some kind soul took him in.
I hope he doesn’t find his way to Sullivan, the ACO will ship him to Mass.
good looking dog.
Boy, do I know how this family must feel. Been there, done that, but for us, there was the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Keep your chin up, Cassie. We had many dedicated people helping us search fromm daylight until dark. It took four days to capture our dog. Perseverance pays off!
Yours was a story worth hearing! It happened to me once too and after looking day and night, posting flyers in shelters, call all the shelters every day… I finally found my dog where she had been taken to a vet in another town. Apparently when she got loose she tangled with a porcupine and people passing by picked her up and took her to their vet. After two weeks spent at the vet’s office she landed in one of the shelters that I had been calling every day. I never gave up – just over two weeks after she’d gone missing and a $400 Vet bill I found her and I was overcome with emotion because I thought she was gone forever! So there is hope, there’s always hope of finding your lost pet. Don’t give up!
Thanks, DJ. So glad to hear your story had a happy ending, too!
This dog belongs to some good friends on mine, so please help them try to find him! The are worried sick about him!
Although I can’t help search for him,my thoughts and prayers are with the family.A neighbor of mine had her dog hit and killed right in front of her kids-THEN the motorist jumped out and complained about damages not covered by his insurance! She would’ve happily paid it if he had given her a minute to breathe, get her thoughts together and make sure her children were okay! Please keep us posted.
Really? There isn’t more important things to be covering in the news??
There is plenty of room for all the news, especially on the internet. You have the choice to read it or not. Next time, don’t read it.
It is too bad your earlier comment was flagged.I doubt it was valid.
If it were your animal or child it would be plenty important.
Child maybe, not an animal
If my dog went missing I’d set up billboards… I like my dog more than I like most people!!
Yeah but dogs do not even come close to the same level as children, and all I am saying is that when a paper like the bdn starts publishing stuff like this it takes away people who are interested in serious news and attracts a few people who like the sentimental side of things. If it were my dog I’d want to get the word out too, but the bdn putting it on the front page seems like quite a stretch. Btw, the simple minded people trying to insult me in this forum is only more evidence to me as to how the bdn degrades its reporting with articles like this, the nutties really come out of the woodwork when trying to apply any sort of real life common sense to something involving pets. Restrain yourselves people! These are animals we are talking about!
I don’t fault you for liking your dog more than some people… There are plenty of nutties out there!
understand this is a public interest story which by the way some of us people that are the public not only yourself appreciate stories like this for an innocent animal is lost and a family is missing it. It is news. I would rather see this than killings and politics. So if life is so miserable that a sentimental story bothers you i suggest a hobbie instead of reading the newspaper. sorry just had to.
I don’t have children nor want to have any. My pets are my children to me. And many pet owners feel the same. Sorry that you’ve never had a pet bond with you as if you were their parent. Maybe you should get a cat. They lower blood pressure, which children certainly do not! ;)
I’ve actually had cats and dogs, my favorite was a beagle that we had for many years-best dog ever. I had a horse until I was 13, he was great. I have two kids now and I would have to say that I would give all of those experiences up if it meant keeping my children. Some people are not built to have children, I understand that, but the idea that an animal comes above or even close to the level of importance of a child is not a valid idea for me.
I didn’t assume that you never had pets. But to me, it seems like you’ve never bonded with them the way you bond with your children. Which is totally fine. My cat treats me like her mother and I wouldn’t have it any other way. When I’m gone for a few nights, she spends as much time as she can in my lap when I get back. She is sitting right next to me at the moment. She enjoys when I read news articles out loud, loves my voice. I’ve taught her tricks and we have a morning routine. I love her more than I would ever want children because she’s smarter I’d say. She rations her food, goes to the bathroom by herself, and even exercises without provocation when she needs it. And people like me, who wouldn’t give up their pet for a child are totally fine too. :) To each their own.
I work with children full time, so I agree that when a child goes missing it’s more important than a dog missing. But if it were my cat, I’d wish that my story got in the paper. The point is, I think we should be glad to hear that it’s ‘only’ an animal and not a child missing.
???
This Is Breaking News………a cat is stuck in a tree on Ohio Street………stay tuned…….
Be thankful that it is breaking news!
At least they know where the cat is. This puppy is missing.
wish you could like a comment more then once! lol
Exactly what kind of news were you hoping for? Murders, kidnappings, rapes, robberies, drug related crimes, political corruption? Personally I’m glad that the BDN actually found room to write a news article about a missing dog among all the rotten things we normally see in the paper! I’d love to see more room for this kind of thing and less reports of the horrible, nasty stuff. Sadly most of the time all we get to read about is horrible stuff and then we have to wonder what kind of world do we live in.
I hope this pup finds his way home and that some kind and caring soul has been keeping him safe.
I couldn’t agree more. Seems like 90% of what gets reported is gloom and doom, both on the local news and the national news. Talk about depressing!
dont be ignorant there are people who love their animals just like their own children, you know the news paper is meant for more than just murders and robberies.
I just hope he is returned to them safe & sound! The poor lil guy! He is adorable!
Poor little bugger……..probably right beside himself. My son adopted a rescue dog and it’s still afraid of strangers. His bolted out of his house shortly after the adoption and after two weeks of heartache and searching, someone reported a sighting, they set up a trap in the area and Jackson made his way back to his home. I hope the same thing happens for Rooster.
I take my dog to Petco all the time and i make sure she is on the leash. This dog looks adorable and i bet means alot to there family, especially if they have kids. I wish them luck in finding rooster. I hope he is found safe
Some other organization that posts all local lost animals, they said the dog did have a leash on but slipped out, and they also made it sound like the dog was fairly new to the family. I had my dog in Petco a few months back and she slipped out of her collar (inside the store luckily) because I had bought a new collar but it wasn’t actually as “tight” on her as I thought it was.
What this article doesn’t say (that a lost dog post floating around FB does) is that the owners had JUST rescued this pup, and were on their way home with him when they stopped at Petco for some supplies. So, not only did he just come from a temporary home, he hadn’t been with his new family long enough to be comfortable. He is probably more scared than most lost animals, as his world has changed so much recently.
I hope they find him safe and soon!
That is one attractive puppy. I hope they find him soon.
Slow news day, huh?
The owners of this puppy not only need to call the Humane Society, but also stop by their facility and check from time to time. A co-worker of mine had a bird dog bolt this last March, called the Humane Society, they denied having the dog, but when their webpage was visited, they indeed had the dog and were adopting it as part of their big push earlier this year. Their buffoonery didn’t get in the BDN, but did make the Sun Journal. Here is the link if anyone cares to read it. The only difference between it and this family is the age of the dog.http://m.sunjournal.com/node/1178713/97677
