Baileyville Councilor Call charged with second OUI

BAILEYVILLE, Maine — A town councilor who is seeking re-election has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants.

Timothy “Timmy” Call, 40, was arrested Saturday, Feb. 28, on Route 1 by the Maine State Police. He was taken to the Baileyville Police Department. where an Intoxilyzer test was administered, according to the state police weekly report. It was not clear Tuesday what his blood alcohol level might have been.

From the Baileyville Police Department, Call was taken to the Washington County Jail in Machias. He arrived at the jail around 1:20 a.m. March 1 and was released around noon on $500 unsecured bail.

Call may not use or possess alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs and must submit to search by police as part of his bail conditions. He is scheduled for arraignment at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, in Calais District Court.

This is not the first time Call has been charged with OUI while a member of the Town Council.

In August 2005, police arrested Call in Alexander and charged him with drunken driving. In November of that year, he entered a guilty plea and his license was suspended for 90 days. Call also was ordered to participate in alcohol and other drug education, evaluation and treatment programs for multiple offenders administrated by the Office of Substance Abuse, court documents on file at the Calais District Court said. He was ordered to pay a $500 fine.

Call, who first was appointed to the Town Council in 2004, said after the council meeting Monday night that he did not want to comment on his most recent arrest.

Call is seeking one of the two open three-year seats on the Town Council on Monday, March 23.

Other candidates include incumbent Dottie Johnson, former Town Councilor Richard Gayton, and newcomers Patricia Richards, Jason Fowler and Dennis Burrill. Only two people are running for the three-year seat on the school committee: incumbent Lawrence Gillis and former Town Manager Scott Harriman.

It sounds like Mr. Call might want to "elect" to enter rehab for his little alcohol problem. It would be an "election" that he might want to win.

How come drunks never learn until they kill an innocent person or family? I think they should NOT be given a second chance...make them take public transportation!

Way to represent Timmy!!!!!!You loser!

I think that lawmaker from Portland who suggested taxing canoes and kayaks must have been hanging out with this guy when she wrote the bill. Also, I'm defending the residents of Baileyville but let's give them a little credit. They haven't elected this guy again, yet, so let's not berate them until they've elected him, if they elect him. And anyway, ask any resident of Lincoln, can anyone think clearly when their town smells like a toilet?

I just love MAINESURVIVORS COMMENT. That is what I call WORKING IN THE SOLUTION. Not only would Mr.Call benefit from getting help but so would innocent people that travel the same roads unaware that someone is putting their life in jeopardy.

Cant be Bill's fault because "he did NOT have sexual relations with that woman"

Mr. Call ( or shall I call you Mr. C. ? ) , as an ex problem drinker myself my heart goes out to you, may you find there is help out there for you, may you seek it and may you recover and clean up the messes you have left behind. My thoughts and prayers are with you and those you have or may harm along the way.

Call and Baldy were hanging out at Dick Stacies Saturday night.

they listening to Jenny sing "on the wings of a snow white dove" and wishing for a better time??

This seems to be the norm of people in control of our town, cities, and government. It is time to educate and clean up these offices and put in some sober thinking people that have read what is presented with sober clear minds. This way they can make clear sober Decisions!!!

baileyville should not re-elect call - set an example for the children of your town!!!

This is typical in small town government. If the town of Baileyville elect this drunk, then they have no one to blame but themeselves when the PD, and other programs are cut. Then again, maybe that is why Call has always done behind the door politic so he drive around drunk. Shame on new interim town manager Dottie Johnson for snow balling the Calais paper and not providing the information. Then again, maybe Mr. Calder is the great reporter that he thinks he is. He know about I am sure of that. I hope that the election give the council a whole make over. My vote is with the new young blood coming which is needed because they dont owe anyone any favors or are not drinking buddies with them

Dear "knowthefacts"

he was arrested last week, should have been in last weeks advertiser..get your facts straight!!

yes knowthefacts it was in the "STATE POLICE" report but typically the advertiser is very quck to put into print any story that will show other people's dirt and the skelton's in ones closet but only when they want to..........

He was arrested the same night that David Claroni's Jeep was run into..again and again..and that made it into the Advertiser

Toooo Night, the bottle...let me down

That is right alwaywanonymous....but I am sure that guy from Robinston was glad to see his article and not the councilor for the second time. Dotti works there and she ignored one of her friends arrest. shame and her and calder.

hey tim we all make mistakes, but richard 37 made the biggest one of ALL, tick tock tick tock, buddy boy tick tock

I really get tired of all the small town politics. I have lived in Baileyville my whole life and that feels like all we ever do is worry about other peoples business all the time. I understand that if you are a council member that you should probably try to keep your nose clean.....But honestly if he wasn't a council member would this be brought up as such a big deal.

I do not believe in drinking and driving thats how my father was killed....but like I said if Timmy wasn't a council member this would not have been brought up the way it did.

And as for bringing in Dottie Johnson and the Calais Advertiser....they have nothing to do with how much alcohol Timmy consumes and if he decides to drive after consuming it.

Well elections are today I guess all of you nosey people will just have to see if we vote him back in again or not!!!!!
