Toddler killed in parking lot accident in Maine

By The Associated Press

SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A weekend accident at a church parking lot in Skowhegan during Maine maple weekend festivities has claimed the life of a 20-month-old boy.

Police say Kai Hasenstab was killed Saturday when he was accidentally run over by his mother, 42-year-old Elizbeth Doucette of Madison.

Police Chief Michael Emmons told the Morning Sentinel in Waterville that Doucette's two children were standing outside her car as she tried to adjust her parking space at the Skowhegan Federated Church and struck Kai.

Emmons called the death a tragic accident.

OMG - I feel so bad. What a horrible accident!

Wow, how awful!!! God Bless that poor family!!!

oh my heart goes out to that whole family.

Our prayers go out to this family, what a tragic thing to happen :(

that is tragic

My thoughts and prayers go to this mom and family at this time also....lightningtrip...right back at you with the "stupid" comment...that is why these incidents are called "tragic accidents" and lets leave it at that...if you need to comment then pass on your thoughts and prayers and leave the rest unstated please...

My thoughts and prayers also to this family, but you should NEVER take your children out of your vehicle until you have shut the vehicle off and are not trying to maneuver into a parking space.

My heart goes out to this poor family.

Ahh yes, another accident so all the experts here can comment on why it never should have happened. As if they are perfect. People, accidents happen, it could be you next time.

This was a tragic accident, and for what it's worth my heart goes out to family.

I'm sure this poor mother is going to have a very hard time living with this. Those people that are calling her stupid have no idea the circumstances. She probably thought the little boy was with someone else or something. Our prayers are with that poor family!

God Bless you all in your time of grieving. Find strength in each other. My prayers.

no words to discribe how sad this is. can anyone help me get lightningtrip permanetly unsubscribed from ever posting anything ever again ? what a heartless ignorant person !

It is terrible and that poor mom and family.

Blessedmom: I think you should know that about everyone would and does feel the way you do about several posters who come here for attention. They are pathetic and I don't say that to be insulting, it is just their reality. Ignore them, they don't deserve your attention. Lightningtrip and his/her ilk post like that for the same reasons others vandalize.

My heart goes out to the family, only someone who has lost a child could know how they feel.

Lightningtrip, You sound so much like Richard37, maybe you are, it will not be hard to tell for anyone willing to compare your posts with his. If you are not Richard37, I suggest you read his posts on other articles especially on the Baileyville mill articles. He, like you ,thought he was too smart to be found out, but he was!

My heart goes out for this family. Why do people like to put salt in the wound. Do you not think that this Mom is going thur her own hell. This was her child. Who are we to throw the first stone. Mom may you turn to God and your family for comfort. Please do not let these negative comment get to you. As far as the people that are the first to judge, before you do please ask yourself if something like this could happen to you. Put youself in this Mom's shoes for one second and if there is a heart inside your chest you will not judge. May God be with this family.

What a horribly tragic accident. My heart goes out to this poor mother. Everyone as parents have done something, something less dangerous or maybe something more dangerous, and thought afterward, looking back, although nothing bad happened, that probably they shouldn't have done that. I don't care who you are - nobody's perfect. You opinionated and critical people that live in glass houses should not throw stones. And for you simple people on here who don't know what that means, don't criticize other people when you yourself have faults of your own.

so sad, I am so sorry for the loss this family has suffered. No matter what the circumstance is loosing a child is unbearable. You are in my prayers.

I feel so bad for this Mom...She must be going through a lot right now, asking those questions, what if... Even at Church God doesnt watch over the little ones, our angels....frustrating very frustrating. Guess God, wanted to call his Angel home...

My thoughts and prayers are with this family during this exceptionally difficult time.

I have to agree with the poster who said that we've all done things that, when looking back, we've said... "goodness... I shouldn't have done that". However, we were more fortunate and didn't pay the price this woman has had to pay. Yes, that's why it's called "an accident", she didn't intentionally do it and I'm very certain that if she could turn the clock back to that day, she'd change it. This woman will be going through her own private hell for a long time. Bless you sweetie, you're still a great mother, just remember that!

OH MY GOD! That is soooo sad! Prayers to the family

thank you opinionated! I didn't mean it in a heartless way! this is a horrible tragedy!

My prayers go out to this mom. God will put nothing on your shoulders that you and He can't handle together
