Stimulus money boosted; airports to get help

By The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine’s take from the federal stimulus package appears to be growing.

WCSH-TV reports that the state’s share of federal stimulus money is expected to be about $1.1 billion. Some of the money is being spent on transportation projects.

On Friday, U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud announced that $5.5 million will go for improvements at three Maine airports.

The Dexter Regional Airport will get $3.8 million to rehabilitate a runway. The Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport and Augusta State Airport will get $1.2 million and $500,000, respectively, to build aircraft rescue and firefighting buildings.

Two Maine Senators played two of the biggest roles in getting the 787 billion dollar stimulus bill signed and Maine gets a wopping 1.1 Billion.

I wish there was an "R" rated comment board, because this "G" rated one just isn't working for me on this issue...

Susan, Olympia you both get a resounding "F" for your work. You simply could not have been played any better by the Big Dogs in Washington. Thanks for the .012 % you guys pulled in for us.

By the way Susan and Olympia .012 % of 787 Billion dollars is a lot of money when we're talking can's of Clam Chowder, but not when we're talking roads, jobs, healthcare, Airports, ext....

I expect that the "pay back" Thank You from the Obama administration may extend for a lot longer that just the first volley. It's not just the first shot that counts; it's the total number of shots you get that should be considered. On the other hand, the Obama administration is looking for long-term, far-reaching and forward thinking projects in which to invest for future productivity. Maybe Augusta needs to get Peter Vigue in the room to help with that kind of brain work.

Who remembers William Proxmire's Golden Fleece Awards? Remember the $84,000 the government spent to determine why people fall in love? According to www.airnav.com, runway 34 at Dexter's airport is 517.7 feet long. $3.8 million to rehabilitate one runway is $7,340 per foot.

Snow and Olympia joined the Owned crowd when they jumpe ship and pushed that spending bill through with all it pork and the bonuses for AIG in it.

They were in such a hurry to get the claws on cash they never read it. What they can do for me from here on out is tender their resignation. Sell your country out for a few dollars.

Not my kind of people. What they have done will effect my Grandsons children.

A name for that comes to mind....Traitor

How about a little money for the sister state north of bangor? If we are going to sell our souls for a little bit of the cash...whay not send some up here?

I'm sure when the nation has to pay this huge debt back, no consideration will be given to the people in Maine for only getting .012 % of the funds... I'm sure Susan and Olympia will stand by and watch us pay back at the same rate as other states that got a whole lot more...

glenna face the facts now that we just got screwed. Or you can hold out for the pot of gold at the end of your rainbow, it wont make any difference. Fact is there is no pot of gold. You know the old saying "No good deed goes un-punished".
