Baldacci touts Northeast Energy Corridor

By The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. John Baldacci says Irving Oil is serving as the catalyst for a Northeast Energy Corridor connecting Maine and New Brunswick. Baldacci says Irving’s willingness to invest has moved the project closer to reality.

In his weekly radio address, Baldacci reinforced the message of cooperation that he and New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham put forth earlier in the week.

Baldacci says Maine can serve as a hub to markets in southern New England that are hungry for clean, renewable electricity.

A first phase could include more than 1,000 megawatts of electrical transmission capacity with a natural gas-fired co-generation plant in Saint John. That’s more energy than was produced by the Maine Yankee nuclear power plant when it was in operation.

Dont forget we want LNG on this side of the Border also.

Right on BigDog; I hope somebody is paying attention!

realistically I think its going to depend where you guys live...we have it in sporadic spots here in Bangor...which is kind of annoying...but its getting there...hopefully it will eventually be available to everyone near 95 in a few years

when will people understand that Canada and Irving own Maine, Irving doesn't want an LNG on this side of the river,he is only interssted in creating jobs for Canada. What is the Gov. thinking, 300 jobs lost here and how many can he creat for the Canadians this is a joke and we are the punch line.

why cant the genertor be built in Maine and we get all the benifits

Here we go again it's all about playing ball with the neighbors. It's time we the people of Maine start doing somthing for this state and not depend on our Canadien friends. Let's get independent from everyone else. Let's produce and sell to other staes. John let's put the peolple back to work. They need jobs. We have to build wealth in this state not welfare. More jobs!!!!! more money!!!!!!!!!!

I live here in Maine and I want to create clean manufacturing jobs here. Can anyone in state or local government help me with this process?
