ORLAND, Maine — A Bucksport man was in critical condition Saturday after he was involved in an accident Friday night.

According to a report from Deputy Jeff McFarland of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, Norman J Rockwell, 37, of Bucksport was traveling north on the Castine Road (Route 175) in Orland at about 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

Rockwell pulled out into the southbound lane and started to pass another vehicle on a curve, McFarland said. He pulled into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by Jessica L. Mills, 24, of Orland. Mills was unable to avoid Rockwell’s 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle that struck her Jeep Cherokee.

Rockwell suffered head injuries in the crash and was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor where he was listed in critical condition Saturday afternoon. The report did not indicate whether he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Mills also was taken to EMMC to be checked for injuries.

Rockwell’s motorcycle was destroyed in the accident. Mill’s Jeep received an estimated $1,000 in damages.

" The report did not indicate whether he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident"

Wearing a helmet had nothing to do with the accident. Pulling out into the path of a jeep cherokee probably wasn't the smartest thing to do.

But it might have had something to do with the amount of injuries he received.

let those who ride decide!!!!!!!!!!! I think this is still a " FREE COUNTRY"!!

KUDOS TO JJS1975....THAT IS WHY THEY CALL THEM ACCIDENTS.....

This is awesome my brother is in a coma and fighting for his life and you all have nothing better to do. No he wasn't wearing a helmet no he didn't pull into the path of jeep he didn't see the jeep. My brother is a safe driver he drives truck for a living and has a spotless driving record. His poor daughter is wondering if her dad is going to make it and if you don't have anything nice to say then dont say anything. He is an amazing person a great dad and the best brother anyone could imagine having. Let us worry about taking care of him and his recovery and not a bunch of idiots typing crap about something they don't know anything about.

Norman Rockwell, I know him as Jeff, is a great guy. He works his a__ off to support his two girls. Jeff is the type of guy who would give you the shirt off his back. How rude some of you can be with your nasty comments. How do you think his family feels when they read these ignorant words? I'm sure you don't even care. I've rode with Jeff on his bike before. He's a good driver. He made a bad decision. Everyone makes bad decisions in their lives and unfortunately he's paying for it. Do you realize that he is laying in a hospital bed in a coma, fighting for his life? He has two daughters who love him dearly. Why don't you show some compassion and keep your ignorance to yourself.
