Keeping mind, body sound in hard times

By Jenan Jondy

In recent years, the rise in anxiety and depression has been apparent. Many factors can play into reasons why one person is more susceptible than another to a particular illness: biological factors, environmental factors. Yet, many cultures and societies today still carry countless stigmas toward mental illness. Therefore, I will use these terms interchangeably in challenging our perception of the term “mental” illness and how we have been trained to stigmatize when this term is heard.

So, what does Islam say concerning this issue?

Islam does not negate mental or psychological illness; throughout the Quran, there are many examples of the prophet’s hardships, Mary’s (may God be pleased with her) hardship and the birth of Jesus, and of past people and civilizations.

First, Islam says that mankind was created to worship God; therefore, we must do our best to care for our physical and mental health in order to worship properly. The prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Make use of medical treatment, for God has not made a disease without appointing a remedy for it, with the ex-ception of one disease, old age.” All diseases have a cure and we must strive with our knowledge to find those cures — and yes, old age has no cure; no matter what we do to our outside, our organs are still aging.

So, what can help me combat my illness in addition to seeking help? When God tells me in the Quran that mankind was given a high status, I understand that there is no one who can now tell me otherwise (here is my self-esteem and my honor).

In my five daily prayers, at appointed times, I let go of the world and its worries, and connect with the One who has created me. I give my worries to the One who is greater than all that He has created, and relax knowing that everything is with Him.

Allah tells us in the Quran: “Say: ‘Nothing shall ever happen to us except what Allah/God has ordained for us. He is our Protector.’ And in Allah let the believers put their trust.” As much as I would like to believe, I am not self-sufficient and I cannot control everything, but I do my best and put my trust in God.

God encourages us to give charity (monetary, our time, etc.), the smallest being removal of harm from the way, and even a smile is charity. We are in a time where people are trying to get a “buzz” or high through alcohol and drugs; and yet, the best high is when we help each other.

In addition, the prophet (pbuh) said: “Be optimistic for good and you will find it.” We need to surround ourselves with optimistic friends who see the glass as half full; who look at life and see that yes, there is a silver lining in every cloud.

Another aspect is the Muslim belief that the stronger your faith, the greater your test. I know as a Muslim that if I am tested it is because God loves me and wants to raise my level in heaven. The prophets, who were the closest to God, were tested the most. So, even in times of hardship, I am still able to thank God.

There are so many aspects of Islam that help in keeping with a healthy mental state, all of which are benefits that come with one’s submission to God. And with that, I would like to wish all a healthy mind, body, and soul.

Jenan Jondy:

Thank you for a beautiful, inspiring article. I enjoyed learning more about Islam and intend to learn even more. You wrote of so many truths that are fundamental to many faiths and religions.

Chersully....ask the author about homosexuality, gay marriage, trangender etc. etc..

4HIm, please get a life, this is an article that shares some about Islam. Just read what is here and learn.

free2bee, I am here to learn, aren't you curious what their stance is on homosexuality?

4Him, while some factions and countries have imprisonment and or death penalties, the Qu`ran does NOT say they should be killed as the Christian bible does.

I am so fascinated with your view of the bible, it is so different from mine????

4Him, is that not what it says in Leviticus 20:13, or do you not use that passage

sorry, put to death

free2bee, it does and you need to understand that Jesus came and paid the price for our sins. We are no longer under the law because of this. We are all sinners worthy of death, Jesus made a way out for all who accept Him as their Lord and Savior. This good news [the gospel] needs to be shared with everyone including muslims. Islam gives more credence to muhammad than to jesus. They claim both to be prophets. Jesus was not a prophet, but was God incarnate. The difference is monumental. Christianity believes in the trinity, Father, son and Holy spirit. God is my Abba Father, islam finds this offensive. Jenan Jondy may be serious about her faith, and while I admire that she is seriously wrong and needs Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior as much as any one else. Sharing the gospel and that truth may offend her, but it is the loving thing to do! Any person claiming to be a Christian that doesn't understand this basic truth should seriously consider their own standing before God rather than be fascinated with all other religions. Other wise you are doing nothing more than playing church, and thats not what your relationship with God is about.

No, I will not ask Jenan Jondy about those things. You do it; that should be sufficient.

Jenan Jondy:

I am glad you wrote and shared your faith. We definitely need more of that in this world, not less. I do not agree with the "approach" of some here (not speaking of their beliefs, but their manner, etc.)

The best to you and your family.

Jenan Jondy:

Just wanted to add that being interested in, and learning more about, other faiths and religions does not "threaten" in any way my beliefs. Unlike for some others it seems, it only serves to strenghten my Christian faith." (and so many similiarities....) Thanks.

Jenan Jondy, thank you for your article. Hopefully it will aid some in the peaceful beliefs of the Muslim faith. As well as understand that there is no reason to fear. The other poster here has become an soldier for the Christian Right`s army. He not only disagrees with your faith but also with the faith and beliefs of other Christians. I don`t imagine that he has ever looked at the Qu`ran.

4Him, if Jesus said we are no longer under this law, then why is the Christian Right still quoting it and how is it that one of the men on a cross beside Jesus was told he would enter the kingdom by Jesus when he was not baptised as a `born again`, as you say only born agains will enter.

free2bee, sin is still sin whether it's the old or new testament, that never changed. Difference being, Jesus came and paid the ultimate sacrifice for all our sins. Book of Romans explains it in detail. You are also correct, I am a soldier for Christ, so to speak, and not ashamed of it. You are right once more, do disagree Ms.Jondy and her faith and I gave the major reason why. If you disagree with my reason, rather than take your cheap pot shots at me, Let me know why you disagree. Lastly, I for one have never stated baptism is a requirement for heaven. In fact I have argued just the opposite. What I have said is being "born again" is . If you go and read what the thief said to Jesus while hanging on the cross next to him, you will get an idea of what is required. Then you will understand islam cannot possibly lead to salvation.

I doubt Ms. Jondy is worried about her `salvation`, just as Jewish people are not or Hindu or Buddhists etc. You sir are a militant, not for the teachings of Christ, but for dominionsism ; the usurping of the US Constitution to be replaced by whatever biblical `law` you deem represents ``your`` right.

Specifically which of the laws in bibilical text are the ones that Jesus replaced by his being and which ones are we still held by, can you specify in the words of Jesus.

4Him, never mind this is not the article to be discussing this. Maybe another time.

free2bee, I addressed your questions on my 5:51 post, Rather than comment on whether you agreed or disagreed, You just seem to move on throwing in more and more of your insults and wild speculations. Homosexuality is sinful behavior. You will never be able to justify it using the Bible. So this is what you resort to. It gets old.

4Him2day, as a former Catholic and a Muslim convert now for more than 10 years, I understand your passion for your faith and I encourage you to contact Jenan and ask her your questions yourself. She is a very smart and intelligent woman who is as willing as you to discuss her religion. I think you may find some of the statements you made simply are not true. As for giving more "credence" to Muhammad than Jesus, I think you are misinformed about the Muslim religion. Speaking for myself, I love Jesus more now as a Muslim than I ever did as a Christian. The story of his virgin birth in the Quran is a miricle of God that brings me to tears every time I read it. His life, as well as Noah and Abraham and Muhammad's (to name a few) are all truly God's mercy to humanity. Maybe Jenan, this could inspire another article that deal with the issues raised in these posts as well as open the floor for some good interfaith dialogue.

Renae, are you as a muslim refuting that you view Jesus as a prohet?

4him2day, I reread what I wrote and I'm still not sure where that question came from. I was saying about Jesus, being a Prophet of Islam, I understand his message, his life, and love him more now than I ever did before I was Muslim...Do I Believe he is a Prophet...Someone sent by God to lead his people back onto the right path, who was born of a virgin named Mary and who performed various miracles with Gods say, who at this moment is in Heaven and will come back. Yes I do... Is he the son of God? No.

RenaeA, thanks for answering. That was the point I've been trying to make all along. While you say you love Jesus even more, you view Him as nothing more than a prophet. That would make Jesus a liar. He made the claim that he was indeed God in the flesh. That is why they wanted to stone Him. You and I are miles apart in our beliefs. There is no middle ground here. One of us is sincerely wrong, and the difference is monumental.

C. S. Lewis, who was a professor at Cambridge University and once an agnostic, understood this issue clearly. He writes:

I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: "I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God." That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic -on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg- or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the son of God: or else a madman or something worse.

Then Lewis adds:

You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come up with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.

4Him2day, all I have to say is we (Muslims) believe in the Bible in it's original form. By this I mean, any History of Religion course offered on any campus will talk of this: books being deleted, added, changed etc in the Bible and most scholars and Clergy (if not all) can not deny that the Bible we know today is not in its original form. We (Muslims) believe in the "Original" and in the "Original" there is no mention of "son of God." Reading the history of Christianity, can in some cases, explain where the trinity came from and where and when the Son of God was thought to be adopted into the Christian doctrine. The Catholic church itself knows what it has done throughout history to promote it's causes and unfortunately as documented sources can attest, the Bible was prime opportunity to further their agenda. A few hundred years or so ago it was against the church to be in possession of a Bible if you were a commoner.

Believe what you will but I will tell you here and now, I don't damn people to hell or proclaim their entrance into heaven based on what they believe. Only the One can decide these matters and that is God. I also know forgiveness is ours for the asking in everything... except one thing. To associate partners with God. I wish I had the time and energy to site materials for reading but know that for anyone interested the resources are a finger tip away.

On a more personal note, you are making the word "Prophet" seem trivial. Being a Prophet of God is in no way a small undertaking or trivial. On the contrary, the Prophets are the Best of humanity chosen by God himself to proclaim his message to a chosen people, most of them facing hostility, rage, unbelief, and violence from the very people they were trying to convey the message to, often own family members. This is not any undertaking an "ordinary" person would be willing or able to endure. The message has not changed from the first Prophet, Adam, (peace be upon him) to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). As Muslims we accept all the Prophets of God.

1 John 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;

1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.

1 John 2:3 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.

1 John 2:4 The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;

1 John 2:5 but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:

1 John 2:6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

1 John 2:7 Beloved, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard.

1 John 2:8 On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true Light is already shining.

1 John 2:9 The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now.

1 John 2:10 The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him.

1 John 2:11 But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

1 John 2:12 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name's sake.

1 John 2:13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father.

1 John 2:14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

1 John 2:15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

1 John 2:17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

1 John 2:18 Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour.

1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us.

1 John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.

1 John 2:21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth.

1 John 2:22 Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.

1 John 2:23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.

1 John 2:24 As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.

1 John 2:25 This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.

1 John 2:26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you.

1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.

1 John 2:28 Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.

1 John 2:29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him

1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1 John 4:2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God;

1 John 4:3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.

1 John 4:9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.

1 John 4:15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

1 John 5:10 The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son.

1 John 5:11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

1 John 5:12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.

1 John 5:13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Jenan, I do hope that you get the opportunity to accept Jesus as your true Lord and Savior, for apart from Jesus you are lost and will be forever.

The King of the Cut and Paste is Back.

4him2day, the difference between the Bible and the Quran is the author. The bible has many ,as everyone knows. The Quran has One, God.

Here is an interesting article I found :

Critical analysis makes it difficult to accept the idea that the gospel as it now stands was written by one person. John 21 seems to have been added after the gospel was completed; it exhibits a Greek style somewhat different from that of the rest of the work. The prologue (John 1:1-18) apparently contains an independent hymn, subsequently adapted to serve as a preface to the gospel. Within the gospel itself there are also some inconsistencies, e.g., there are two endings of Jesus' discourse in the upper room (John 14:31; 18:1). To solve these problems, scholars have proposed various rearrangements that would produce a smoother order. However, most have come to the conclusion that the inconsistencies were probably produced by subsequent editing in which homogeneous materials were added to a shorter original. -USCCB.org.

John was a man who never knew Jesus nor saw him. His gospel was written about 100AD, if I remember correctly, and for two centuries it was debated whether or not this gospel should be accepted as a reliable account of Jesus's life and should be included in the scriptures. I ask you to take a look at the Qur'an and read it for yourself. It's not very long and actually can be read in an evening (the English Translation) although I recommend one with commentary that describes what the reader is reading (which takes longer) I myself have a Bible in my home on my book shelf. If anyone would like a Quran for cinsear reading purposes I can get anyone one for free:)

As for Jenan being "Lost" I can assure you she is surely not. As for Muslims, we have a true Lord and Savior...God. We answer to him and to him alone. The same as Jesus did during his lifetime on Earth.

again on a personal note, one of the things that attracted me to Islam was the encouragement God offers all Muslims to learn. To go out and find the answers to our questions, to find the truth. We are not told to believe blindly or to accept something that doesn't make sense logically, but to question and learn. In so doing we will all arrive at the one absolute truth. There is one God who we are all accountable to and to him we will all return. Including Jesus. (peace be upon him)

renaeA, you are so right, the difference is the author. God is the author of the entire bible, cover to cover, as He moved the authors of the books to write. The quran on the other hand is the work of a false prophet. You are not the first nor will you be the last to attempt to discredit the scriptures. Most that have made any serious attempt to do so, come to realize it is indeed the Devinely inspired word of God. Read 2 Timothy 3:16. ALL SCRIPTURE IS INSPIRED BY GOD.... Im afraid you jumped ship without all your facts. This is what started our discussion to begin with. We are miles apart on who Jesus is. I take offense to your trying to make it sound as if our two faiths are somehow compatable. They are not even close. Jesus is the only way to salvation, there is no other name by which man can be saved. He was and is God incarnate. There are literally hundreds of old testament prophecies that speak of His coming. Many failed to see it then and many fail to see it now. Please, put Jesus back in his respectful place as God himself and invite Him to be Lord and Savior of your life. Do it today. There is only one God, and that is Jesus.

4him2day...then who is God pray tell? This sounds juvenile and simplistic, but who was God before Jesus?

Secondly, I do not discredit the scriptures, I am simply trying to say that the "Bible" of today is not in it's original form as God intended it to be and as it was revealed. As a Muslim, the Torah and the Gospel are our books as well but they have not had the guarantee of protection from tampering from man as the Qur'an has.

My question is have you ever opened a Qur'an? Do you know what it contains? The story of Abraham and Noah and Mary's trial of giving birth to Baby Jesus as a virgin? The love and mercy of God? The Angels and Satan? The story of Adam and Eve? The pleasures of Heaven and the terrors of Hell. Judgement day and the coming of Jesus? Moses and Pharaoh and the staff , the parting of the Sea and the drowning of Pharaoh? Angel Gabriel and the Angel of Death? Mohammad invented nothing new, he was a reminder, a comforter, he is even mentioned in the Bible. He came to remind all of Mankind of the Oneness of God, the same as ALL of the Prophets before him.

I appreciate your concern for my salvation and in asking you to open a Qur'an I am not implying that I am wishing you to convert or to believe in what I believe in but simply to see that it is not foreign and actually very familiar, know thy enemy, so to speak.

Everything I mentioned in my last post is known by many educated Christians. Even some Priests I have known and read about, know what the Bible is and what it is not and make no excuses. This is for them where "Faith" comes in.

All I have to say is Islam is one of the FASTEST growing religions with Mosques and Islamic schools being built all over North America, some even taking over abandoned churches! If there is no truth to Islam ,why is this phenomenon happening despite all the bad press Islam receives? Priests and 70's super stars and even members of the Jackson family , to name a few, have opened their eyes to the truth and that is because of one reason...

RenaeA, to sum up your last paragraph in a nutshelll, the reason islam is growing here in N. America is because satan is the ruler of this world system. People are decieved and blinded to the truth. Judgment day is fast approaching. The writing is clearly on the wall. This false religion (islam) is taking root just like the bible spoke of in the last days. read the following article:

When evangelicals capitulate and attempt to soften the offense of the gospel in this way, they blur the lines between the god of Islam and the God of the Bible. But now is not the time for blurring lines. Now is the time to draw lines—lines between truth and error, and between the one path to heaven and the many paths to hell.

Islam rejects the Trinity and the God of the Bible, insisting instead that Allah alone is the one true deity. It denies that Jesus is God, that He died on the cross, and that He was raised from the dead. Instead, say Muslims, Jesus was but one of thousands of prophets sent by Allah, the greatest of them being Mohammed. In other words, Jesus was merely a man.

Islam rejects the salvation of forgiveness through Christ, teaching that only Muslims can be saved. According to the Koran, if a person follows Islam and does enough good deeds to outweigh the bad, Allah may allow him to enter paradise, but even then he can’t be certain. The only sure pathway to heaven is killing and being killed in jihad, a holy war.

Islam gives lip service to the Bible as a holy book, but it undermines and denies every fundamental doctrine about sin and salvation taught in the Bible. In fact, Islam today is the most powerful system on earth for the destruction of biblical truth and Christianity—thousands of Christians are dying under Islamic persecution, especially in the Middle East, Africa, Indonesia, and other parts of Asia.

Clearly, Islam and Christianity are mutually exclusive. Both claim to be the only true way to God, but both cannot be right. There is no atonement in Islam, no forgiveness, no savior, and no assurance of eternal life. The gospel of Jesus Christ is a message of hope; Islam is a religion of hopelessness.

Making these kinds of distinctions may not be politically correct, but it is critical if the purity of the gospel is to be protected. Put simply, there is no salvation outside of Christ. When this truth is compromised, the gospel is abandoned.

RenaeA, make no mistake, you have bought into a lie, A lie that leads to hell. You asked who was God before Jesus? Jesus and God are one and the same, always have been. They have always existed. Jesus is not a created being like islam teaches. Satan and the prophets are. Please, please don't buy into this deception. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved....Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Ask Him into your life today.

Who do you think that I am?

Selected Scriptures

Code: A335

With that brief question Jesus Christ confronted His followers with the most important issue they would ever face. He had spent much time with them and made some bold claims about His identity and authority. Now the time had come for them either to believe or deny His teachings.

Who do you say Jesus is? Your response to Him will determine not only your values and lifestyle, but your eternal destiny as well.

Consider what the Bible says about Him:

JESUS IS GOD

While Jesus was on earth there was much confusion about who He was. Some thought He was a wise man or a great prophet. Others thought He was a madman. Still others couldn't decide or didn't care. But Jesus said, "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30). That means He claimed to be nothing less than God in human flesh.

Many people today don't understand that Jesus claimed to be God. They're content to think of Him as little more than a great moral teacher. But even His enemies understood His claims to deity. That's why they tried to stone Him to death (John 5:18; 10:33) and eventually had Him crucified (John 19:7).

C.S. Lewis observed, "You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come up with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to" (Mere Christianity [Macmillan, 1952], pp. 40-41).

If the biblical claims of Jesus are true, He is God!

JESUS IS HOLY

God is absolutely and perfectly holy (Isaiah 6:3), therefore He cannot commit or approve of evil (James 1:13).

As God, Jesus embodied every element of God's character. Colossians 2:9 says, "In Him all the fulness of Deity dwells in bodily form." He was perfectly holy (Hebrews 4:15). Even His enemies couldn't prove any accusation against Him (John 8:46)

God requires holiness of us as well. First Peter 1:16 says, "You shall be holy, for I am holy."

JESUS IS THE SAVIOR

Our failure to obey God--to be holy--places us in danger of eternal punishment (2 Thessalonians 1:9). The truth is, we cannot obey Him because we have neither the desire nor the ability to do so. We are by nature rebellious toward God (Ephesians 2:1-3). The Bible calls our rebellion "sin." According to Scripture, everyone is guilty of sin: "There is no man who does not sin" (1 Kings 8:46). "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). And we are incapable of changing our sinful condition. Jeremiah 13:23 says, "Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil."

That doesn't mean we're incapable of performing acts of human kindness. We might even be involved in various religious or humanitarian activities. But we're utterly incapable of understanding, loving, or pleasing God on our own. The Bible says, "There is none righteous, not even one; there is none who understands, there is none who seeks for God; all have turned aside, together they have become useless; there is none who does good, there is not even one" (Romans 3:10-12).

God's holiness and justice demand that all sin be punished by death: "The soul who sins will die" (Ezekiel 18:4). That's hard for us to understand because we tend to evaluate sin on a relative scale, assuming some sins are less serious than others. However, the Bible teaches that all acts of sin are the result of sinful thinking and evil desires. That's why simply changing our patterns of behavior can't solve our sin problem or eliminate its consequences. We need to be changed inwardly so our thinking and desires are holy

Jesus is the only one who can forgive and transform us, thereby delivering us from the power and penalty of sin: "There is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

Even though God's justice demands death for sin, His love has provided a Savior, who paid the penalty and died for sinners: "Christ ... died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God" (1 Peter 3:18). Christ's death satisfied the demands of God's justice, thereby enabling Him to forgive and save those who place their faith in Him (Romans 3:26). John 3:16 says, "God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." He alone is "our great God and Savior" (Titus 2:13).

JESUS IS THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE OBJECT OF SAVING FAITH

Some people think it doesn't matter what you believe as long as you're sincere. But without a valid object your faith is useless

If you take poison--thinking it's medicine--all the faith in the world won't restore your life. Similarly, if Jesus is the only source of salvation, and you're trusting in anyone or anything else for your salvation, your faith is useless.

Many people assume there are many paths to God and that each religion represents an aspect of truth. But Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me" (John 14:6). He didn't claim to be one of many equally legitimate paths to God, or the way to God for His day only. He claimed to be the only way to God--then and forever.

JESUS IS LORD

Contemporary thinking says man is the product of evolution. But the Bible says we were created by a personal God to love, serve, and enjoy endless fellowship with Him

The New Testament reveals it was Jesus Himself who created everything (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16). Therefore He also owns and rules everything (Psalm 103:19). That means He has authority over our lives and we owe Him absolute allegiance, obedience, and worship.

Romans 10:9 says, "If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved." Confessing Jesus as Lord means humbly submitting to His authority (Philippians 2:10-11). Believing that God has raised Him from the dead involves trusting in the historical fact of His resurrection--the pinnacle of Christian faith and the way the Father affirmed the deity and authority of the Son (Romans 1:4; Acts 17:30-31).

True faith is always accompanied by repentance from sin. Repentance is more than simply being sorry for sin. It is agreeing with God that you are sinful, confessing your sins to Him, and making a conscious choice to turn from sin and pursue holiness (Isaiah 55:7). Jesus said, "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments" (John 14:15); and "If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine" (John 8:31).

It isn't enough to believe certain facts about Christ. Even Satan and his demons believe in the true God (James 2:19), but they don't love and obey Him. Their faith is not genuine. True saving faith always responds in obedience (Ephesians 2:10).

Jesus is the sovereign Lord. When you obey Him you are acknowledging His lordship and submitting to His authority. That doesn't mean your obedience will always be perfect, but that is your goal. There is no area of your life that you withhold from Him.

JESUS IS THE JUDGE

All who reject Jesus as their Lord and Savior will one day face Him as their Judge: "God is now declaring to men that all everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead" (Acts 17:30-31).

Second Thessalonians 1:7-9 says, "The Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. And these will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power."

HOW WILL YOU RESPOND?

Who does the Bible say Jesus is? The living God, the Holy One, the Savior, the only valid object of saving faith, the sovereign Lord, and the righteous Judge.

Who do you say Jesus is? That is the inescapable question. He alone can redeem you--free you from the power and penalty of sin. He alone can transform you, restore you to fellowship with God, and give your life eternal purpose. Will you repent and believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?

4him2day, please can you tell me where you got your information on Islam?

I have offered the Quran to you in hopes you would come up with fair observations. When I quoted about the Bible I chose a Christian source and I also sited my source for anyone to check out. There are plenty of resources for you to find out what Muslims Believe and what Islam is all about, what you have written in you post is clearly a Christian take on Islam and can not be taken seriously. I wonder, if you believe that jargon, what you yourself are willing to believe about your own religion. You quoted in your post "There is no atonement in Islam, no forgiveness, no savior, and no assurance of eternal life." This is absolutely hogwash (excuse my choice of words) and shows me that you care nothing to understand the people you are offering "salvation" to. I am not offended, you won't be the last person to rely on an anti Islamic site or source to quote references from, it just saddens me that this proves people are so caught in their ways of thinking and their minds are so closed that a person of the faith they are trying to dispute is sitting there in front of them and they still resort to unislamic sources for their information about Islam. Maybe you are to afraid of what you may find from reliable authentic Islamic sources? Again, you wouldn't be the first. It's like trying to describe the taste of chocolate without ever taking a taste. You don't have to love it or accept it into your diet, but you at least have to know something about it to describe it. Relying on people trying to tell you what chocolate tastes like, who themselves have never tasted, is pointless and futile.

RenaeA, why would I have any interest in reading a book that denies the Deity of Jesus Christ? A book that clearly contradicts the bible. There are literally thousands of books that do that. You could spend a lifetime doing that, while I would prefer to read, study and learn Gods only written word to us, the bible. Being an ex-catholic myself I can understand your frustration with certain teachings, but you have clearly bought into the lie of islam which is no different from any other cult that denies the Deity of Jesus Christ. Please don't let your pride keep you from knowing the one true God, the God of the bible, Jesus Christ.

Eccl 12:11 The words of wise men are like goads, and masters of these collections are like well-driven nails; they are given by one Shepherd.

Eccl 12:12 But beyond this, my son, be warned: the writing of many books is endless, and excessive devotion to books is wearying to the body.

Eccl 12:13 The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person.

Eccl 12:14 For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.

4him2day, LOL yes there are endless books that go against the bible, I agree! However, the Quran does not and the Quran is not "many books" but only one. You said you want to spend time reading the word of God but you spend time reading and quoting lies written about about Islam. I am simply saying, had you read the Qur'an yourself you would have been able to realize the quotes you gave were inaccurate and untrue. Your statement therefore, about the Quran being a book that clearly contradicts the bible, is one you are unable to make because you have never read the Quran, as you yourself stated, and actually have no Idea what it contains or even if it "contradicts" the bible. The bible, as it was intended by God almighty, before language and meanings were fooled and tooled with, NEVER proclaimed Jesus as God. It is that simple. By believing this you have as you say, "clearly bought into the lie" of Christianity which incorporated many PAGAN rituals and Ideas in order to please and appease.

"Quite a number of the People of the Book (Christians) wish they could Turn you (people) back to infidelity after ye have believed, from selfish envy, after the Truth hath become manifest unto them: But forgive and overlook, till God brings about His Command; for God hath power over all things." Quran 2:109

"...And nearest among them in love to the Believers(Muslims) wilt thou find those who say, 'We are Christians': Because amongst these are Men devoted to learning and Men who have renounced the world, and they are not arrogant." Ouran 5:82
