COURTESY PENOBSCOT COUNTY JAIL

BANGOR, Maine — An Orrington motorcycle rider who allegedly led a state police trooper on a chase through Bangor and Glenburn that reached speeds of nearly 120 mph was released Friday after posting $1,000 cash bail.

Jeremy Lovley, 23, made his first appearance Thursday on charges of eluding a police officer, which is a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000; criminal speed for traveling 112 mph in a 25-mph zone; improper passing; and raising the front wheel of his motorcycle off the travelway on Wednesday night.

Lovley is scheduled to appear on June 26 in Penobscot County Superior Court for a status conference on the case unless he is indicted by the Penobscot County grand jury before that date. The grand jury is scheduled to convene on May 26.

glad someone was smart enough to help get that fool off the road

This guy seems like a real prize. Thanks to the person who turned him it.

It's a damned miracle that someone wasn't killed. The policeman is an idiot. No make that IDIOT. It takes two idiots to create a dangerous situation of this magnitude. The cop and the criminal. Over a hundred miles an hour in Bangor??? What the hell is wrong with this cop for pushing this nut along during a chase like this? They should both go to jail for a few years.

This guy seems to be a perfect candidate for a wooden shampoo.

Why do these mental midgets ALWAYS use the excuse 'I was scared'. Yeah, everytime I get scared I hop on my bike for a hell ride at 100+ MPH.

I am in agreement with Lubeckdeck, that cop had to be flying to keep him in his sights. Stand on the side of Broadway and see how long you could keep someone doing 60 MPH in your sights, and this guy was doing twice that. It is no less dangerous for a cop to be going that fast than it is for you or I. To follow him to Glenburn and keep him in his sights at all, he had to be doing nearly as fast as the Bike. He should have dropped the chase.

Yes drop the chase that is the right idea, what part of the cop was NOT doing 120 do people not get? Yes let's all speed because we want dangerous idiots on the road knowing cops can't touch them.

i also think thst the cop was in the WRONG....yes, he did have good reasons for begginging the chase intially, but to follow through with a 120 MPH chase through bangor maine is rediculous. If he hadn't pursued so long, then the biker wouldn't have pushed it to such limits. Very irrespnosible on both of their parts. Some states actually have pursuit laws to prevent stunts like this...

anything you can't PIT, shouldn't be chased

You can PIT a bike, but the outcome would be....unpleasant. Great Job to the cops for getting this LOSER off the streets. He didn't run because he was scared of getting a ticket, he ran because he had active warrants.

This idiot is the reason there will be a helmet law in Maine. I HATE stupid people!

Yes this kid is an idiot, but the cop is just as stupid. You know he had his plate number within the first 5 min.Let him go wait a few hours and go get him at home. The cop HAD to be going at least 100 to keep up.Had he hit someone's car they and him would have been killed. So I ask?Is it really worth it?NO not even a little bit.

At what point does public safety become more important than issuing a wheelie ticket? I agree that this motorcycle operator was extremely irresponsible and deserves to have the book thrown at him, however, I also feel the officers were in the wrong for continuing the pursuit at such high speeds through town. To those of you who say that the officer wasnt going 120, PLEASE tell me how it would be possible to keep the motorcycle operator in your line of sight without maintaing a speed relatively close to that of the motorcycle? Maybe they were only doing 110 but in my opinion that is still way to fast in a urban environment to pursue someone for a traffic offense.

I'm glad someone finally caught this fool. Back in January he was so coked out, for no reason he got out of his car beat me to the ground and continued to stomp on my head. Although when I woke up there was a state police officer there, they never charged him for anything. Only ten eye witnesses, so I see why.

The Trooper was not traveling 100+ mph. There is standard law for pursuit tactics in the State of Maine. Yes the Trooper could have called off the pursuit, but it is still very easy to keep someone in your line of site while the bike is traveling at such a high rate of speed. When traveling through Bangor and intersections all officers are required to pause and make sure the intersection is clear, but once you hit the open roads you can pick up your speed. I tip my hat off to the Trooper for sticking with him, this guy needs to be off his bike for a very long time, and congrats for the citizen who was paying attention and helped turn in the careless rider.

Call off the chase? Do you know how big a bike plate is and how easy it is to read while some one is trying to flee. That's what the criminals want is for the cops to call off the chase. He ran because he thought that he could outrun the trooper, and if the trooper had called off the chase the perp wouldn't have slowed right down anyway he was too busy trying to get away to even look back. This guy doesn't care about himself or anyone else out on the road and had to be stopped and I'm glad that this trooper didn't give up and hopefully this guys loses his bike.

TY TO THE GENTLEMAN THAT TOLD WHERE THAT RECKLESS DRIVER WAS BEFORE ANYONE GOT HURT HE THINKS IT IS FUNNYTHEY SHOULD LOCK THE DRIVER UP AND THROW AWAY THE KEY HE HASN'T LEARN ANYTHING

I was sitting at McDonald's when they went by. Simpson looked to be going around 60 mph and it did not look safe to me.

I love how when bad guys do stupid things and everyone screams "Where were the police?!!" When the police do the best that they can to catch bad guys it's either "Not enough" or "Too much." There are so many people that just need to grow up and realize that that when spend more time complaining about the police than the bad guys, the bad guys get a lot bolder.

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence in their behalf." -- George Orwell

I sleep peaceably in my bed because I have a loaded 44 within arms reach.

hrmm so seeing the pick I have seen him around and he rides a Suzuki GSXR that is orange and black and not a Kawasaki, but I guess we really cant expect the BDN to get it right. Either way I hope they throw the book at him.

Haha! I was just going to post that he rides a gsxr.

Aaallso..

Knowing this kid personally I can say he 100% was not "coked" out when this fight happened. Can I can also say it wasnt for "no reason. "Talk sh*t, get hit" thorn. Having this happen once you should know better than to blast some kid that can't defend himself on the internet. Grow a set and take responsibility for your mouth, and actions

That said. Running from the police is just a bad idea.

I saw a dude riding a wheelie down 395 last week doing at least 70mph. Must have been this idiot.

Let me clarify my comment, I think that he deserves to be punished for running from the police. If I chose to ride wheelies on my bike (which I dont) and I was caught I would man up and pull over to accept the ticket. I don't know Jeremy personally but I have met him once or twice, from what I saw he seemed like an ok kid. He just made a real bad decision when he ran and mad a minor ticket into a really dangerous situation for everyone involved and for that he needs to be punished.

It's really too bad that there isnt a place where people who like to ride wheelies, stoppies and what not were allowed to go to do this sort of thing legally. It is fun to watch, we could turn it into a spectator sport and charge admission! (I am serious!) Anyone who has ever been to a stunt show, say either Star Boyz at Bangor Motorsports or any of the various shows that go on around Bike Week in NH knows what I mean

Oh we just don't understand this poor kid, he was only "having his first seizure," after all he was driving reckless on Broadway during rush hour. What an idiot ...

Gixxerrider. Everything you've said has been spot on! If you've met him, then you must know me as well.

We can be thankful this trooper didn't hit a family or two head-on. This is just plain crazy, what ? 117 mph on Broadway in Bangor, or anyplace else period. They just don't seem to get it, I guess..the idiot on the cycle, will probably get a slap on the wrist. That is an outrageous act by the trooper. Larry T. Doughty, South Brewer, larrytdoughty@yahoo.com, www.ourstory.com/larrytdoughty/

Larry t doughty! On point. Its a lot easier for a bike to dodge cars full of innocent people than it is for a effing crown vic. Not that I'm condoning running at all.

First of all he ran because he had active warrants for arrest. Maybe he would have run anyway, but that is the main reason he ran and his high bail amount is due to his failure to "man up" and appear in court for previous charges.

googardz207..have you thought about approaching the Winterport Dragway or Speedway 95 with that idea. They might be interested as it would mean additional revenue for them and you would have a place for your spectator sport. Just a thought and I am also serious.

The only thing a helmet would do at 117 mph is to help identify the body quicker.

tripp12------I'm wondering where the open road is between Broadway and Glenburn??

Erica2, do you have a sister named Jessica? And do you know"Sharkey"?

How many people are truly idiots on here? There is a difference in doing 117, and there is a difference of doing 60 keeping someone in sight. Not sure how many of you have been on Broadway before but there are some straight runs, so you can see someone on this straight area if you was 10 feet or 100 feet behind. If the trooper did the speed this idiot did, he wouldn't need a smart person in a Nissan to flash his lights and point at a house. Cop has lights, cop has sirens, theres a law that says pull the heck over when you hear this. But there are too many idiots who have loud radios, talking on cell phones and can't be bothered to do so. These are the people that would be the family or two that gets hit head on.

So here is something to think about, someone is robbing a bank, armed robbery, shots fired, the police officers get the call, what the heck do you want them to do for a speed? 15 Miles per Hour Yes I could hear my scanner now:

"10-4, please be advised we are 9 miles away however the speed limit is 40 and to avoid all the idiots from logging on to BDN's website tomorrow morning to complain about us the bext we could do is 45 maybe 50...too bad we can't try to get there as fast as we can."

Yes, yes let's not have the cops try to get a jacka$$ off the road, or get to an armed bank robbery or even better you are in the process of being mugged on the side of the street. The crime would be a heck of a lot worse then it is now!

Now if smart people would keep their radios down, their cell phones off their ears, then when they hear lights and sirens, everyone pulls over and guess what folks? The roadway is CLEAR! The cop can do 150 if he wanted to!

Here's one better let's have a Moron on a motorcycle randomly shoot at people, do 117 when he sees a cop but because there are too many idiots in the state the cop decides he can't give chase to a dangerous person. Oh but if that happened you would be the same group of people ticked off waiting to sue someone because the cops let a maniac who was dangerous with a gun shot at people, hit you, killed someone you know, the man was dangerous the cops should have done something. Same thing applies here, dangerous person...I can not believe how many idiots can't understand english.

Now to the people who called the cop an idiot...the next time you have an accident, the time someone breaks in your house, vandalizes your property who the F are you going to call to report it? Yup these same people you called an idiot, these same people that would assist with such problems.

Calm down buddy, there's a difference here between a small wheelie ticket and robbing a bank. C'mon now. Is a cop chasing a kid that did a wheelie really worth risking his own and the lives of other people!? No. A bank robbery.. Maybe

Again the reason why the chase started was because he eluded the police, now if we find out the cop decided to not chase him (because he now technically broke another law) and we find out we have some convicted criminal loose on the streets once again, everybody would be chompin at the bit "Where was the police?" and "Why didn't he try to stop him?" In the two examples I use they both present a dangerous situation and if I recall correctly that is what a Police Officers duty is, protect and serve. None of this of course would have happened if the clown took it like a man, heck with the ticket the cop might have just arrested him for the outstanding warrants. In the end their might not have been a ticket for as simple as "popping a wheelie"

Should of gave him a little nudge, whoops did I do that??????

He should have crashed into a house on broadway and everything would have been fine.

ydnar723 - I can tell that you have a passion for law enforcement and law enforcement personell and I think that is a great thing! I myself am a law enforcment student in school and look forward to a career in law enforcement. I think that as an officer you have to use a great deal of discretion as to what types of crime constitute putting civilians lives in danger. I think that it is great these officers were able to get the guy and that nothing terrible happened in the process. Nobody commenting on this article was in the cruiser to know what the traffic conditions were so really none of us should be commenting on whether the officer made the right choice or not. I just personally feel that a minor traffic infraction is not enough to put innocent lives at stake, had the reason for the chase been one of your examples then by all means this man needs to be off the streets and in a jail cell. In the end really all of this falls back onto Jeremy for not simply stopping when he saw the officer, I know plenty of guys who have gotten tickes for wheelies and its a pretty minor deal really. If I am not mistaken its a $137 fine, definately not worth putting lives at risk over. Better to let him get away this time and catch him the next time he does something stupid in a situation such as this one.

Goddardx207 - we both know one another I ride the old Blue and white 600

Wow peoples comments on this web site amazes me!

put RFID's in every license plate-- then you won't have to chase won morono-- but with all the Tom Tom's, cell phones, and on star-- you might not even have to do that-- save the money the feds will do it. Too many tracking devices not enough magnets. Pirate hookers!

if he would have been a cop they would have given him a pat on the back and a free beer at Raenas.

John Wayne would have shot him off of his horse ! I think the cop that caught him should get a pat on the back for doing his job .

Also 23 is not a kid anymore.

I know him too and I can't say I am at all surprised by this. Whether the cop made a bad choice or not does not change the fact that what JEREMY did was stupid, period. Let him spend some time in jail, it will be good for him.

All this trouble over a wheelie? Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. Now the state has to feed him and house him until June 26. I think those 100 mph figures are coming from the officers head and not any actual speed reading equipment. I'm glad nobody got killed over a molehill.

for the idiots on here who dont understand speed, that cop had to be going almost as fast as the guy on the bike to keep him in site, if the cop wasnt going close to the bikes speed,he would have never kept sight of the bike. now there is standard police policies that plainly state no high speed chases in city limits. all that cop should have done was get the plate number of the bike, call off the chase and go arrest the biker later that way no innocent people would have been in harms way of a high speed chase that should have never happened over someone pulling a wheelie, i wonder if the cops think it would be cool to kill or hurt someone over a $50.00 wheelie fine???????

he did a wheelie on the interstate duhh not smart then he ran so what do you want the cops to do just forget it ok it coul;d have gone bad but it didnt i say chase them down lock them up peace

I'm just curious but has anyone actually tried to catch a license plate of a speeding motorcycle at normal driving speed? Say for instance driving 70mph on a highway. Those plates are pretty tiny. For the Trooper to have kept the bike insight meant that he was traveling atleast 60mph and scanning the road in the distance to keep him in visual site. I don't believe that the Trooper went in excess speed of 100+ mph to catch that bike. It would be dumb on his part. They have pursuit tactics in place for instances like this for both in the city and on the highway. Due to traffic conditions and traffic lights, all emergency vehicles must yield as they go through redlights. In this case with the speeding bike, it is only assumed that he was guilty of something because he chose to flee. As a law enforcement officer he was not aware of what crimes he may have committed since he had no information on him. I'm sure that if he knew ahead of time what it was then he may have acted differently. Officers are trained to react with the information that they know. It's entirely officer discretion. I for one think the Trooper did the right thing. Once he started to lose track of him he was about to turn around and then caught a lucky break. If anyone is curious you might be able to look up on the Maine Criminal Justice Website about some pursuit procedures, but also keep in mind every agency is different or check the State of Maine motor vehicle statues Title 29A. Or maybe instead request to go on a ridealong with a local police deptartment since most people on here jump to way too many conclusions without having sound information as to what there talking about. Alot of what happens isn't like what you see on TV.

Lets get a couple of things straight here. 1. for you to say that the cop wasn't doing as fast as the motorcycle is funny your telling me that if your walking and i'm running i wont eventually within seconds get away from you? lol okay.... anyways 2. there is a law stating you are aloud to pursue high speed chase on the interstate but within town limits it is illegal for the officer to continue that chase. its technically the officers fault. obviously if you read into it his warrants was for an unpaid fine. not like he was running from a murder charge. this motorist that didn't cause no damage or hurt no one is getting more unnecessary attention than these drugs, murders, and bank robbers. as for the cocaine beating comment. i know about that the kid has never done drugs before he USED to drink a lot but his girlfriend put a stop to that and hasn't had a drop in months. the cop was also in pursuit to a domestic assault call. what's more important? HMmmm domestic assault? or a wheelie on the interstate that was reported to be an up and down thing. he was in the wrong for doing it but at the same time the cop was much more in the wrong for causing such a dramatic scene like that. the kid has a high reputation of respect and being a very polite and giving person. the cop stated that he had his license plate number from the highway. hes a state trooper he could have just traveled to his residence and waiting or reported the local town cops in his area get a grip this state trooper was obviously an idiot and apparently not in clear thought of mind. can we say POWER TRIP? the news is making this a lot bigger than it really is no one was hurt nothing was broken or damaged. they say he was guarding his cell phone? lol hence the sunlight and the looks of his eyes he was blinded but the sunlight and trying to see what he was doing on his cell phone. its funny that i was outside when this innconsiderate camera man was taking the pictures why didnt he post the pictures of his hugging and kissing his son and girlfriend? why didnt they post about how nice and how he coperated with the cop and such. the news is out to make anyone look bad so they get respect and attention they want. This man obviously made a simple mistake. lighten up people.

apparently i didnt sign in correctly the first time to post my comments. more like a book.... BUT anyways. i dont feel like typing because aside of this BDN people and people like you on here making me look bad i do have a family to attend to. thanks for all the comments and concerns concerning me BUT...your all wrong about this whole things none of you was there to whitness this story. i did have a warrant that for an unpaid fine that was not active cause it was already taken care of thats why i was released i dont do drugs whoever the heck you say you are that i beat your face in the ground LMAO i used to drink thanks for the truthful comment "understanding" yes my girlfriend put a stop to that because i was drinking to much yes i dip not the most attracting thing in the world but hey my choice. there is a law stating that the trooper cannot pursue a chase with in town limits. the cop stated to me that he had my license plate from the highway. and to make matters worse not only does he look like an idiot as well as myself he made a poor decision chasing a man that did an alleged "wheelie" with a shredded sprocket and a chain loose enough to fold while intact to the bike : in other words my bike could not have wheelied with the help of gods hands: the cop was in pursuit to a domestic assault beating i think thats more important than a claimed wheelie that he spotted in his rearview mirror when he reported to see when he was in pursuit at 95+ mph. this cop obviously has no sense of comparison when it comes to whats more important. i could talk about this for hours but its not worth my time. this BDN company is a joke. when my sister got rapped last year and drugged from a man on a furlough from prison it never made the news or paper. and he got 30 extra days in a prison LMAO the system is a joke. apparently you guys only pay attention to the newspapers and not real facts. its people like you that get innocent people thrown in jail. first know what your talking about than run your mouths till than go back to your insulting lifes.

for starters, i don't know where all of you get off, have you never done ANYTHING stupid? i'm pretty sure that NO ONE should be judging anyone. there are hundreds and hundreds of motorcyclists out on the streets DAILY doing stupid stunts and driving recklessly. yes, jeremy may think doing wheelie's is cool and that showing off to be noticed is what life is about, but at some point in life EVERYONE does this. it may not be on a bike, but it is more than likely in some other form of dangerous, or dare i even say ILLEGAL acts?! i don't understand how this became everyone else's business... is he the next kobe bryant, or T.I.? i mean.. damn, if he's going to be a celebrity at least let the kid make some money off it. if they're going to "make an example out of him" they're going to do it, but the officer clearly was not in the right either doing 60+ down broadway. either way i see it, the whole situation has become more of a high school he-said-she said pissing match. the officers want the wheeling, stompies, stunts and tricks to stop but is this just going to cause MORE of these incidents to occur? my guess... more than likely, yes.

in the famous words of martin luther king junior "why can't we all just get along".

he broke the law, a suitable punishment will be given. until then, mind your Ps and Qs and wait to read what happens on judgement day in the court news like every other case.

I think in New Jersey, once the police get a plate number or other identifying information about the perpetrator, they are not allowed to continue the chase unless the person is shooting at people from their vehicle.

Didn't there used to be a law that said that the police could not chase someone outside of their own jurisdiction? Meaning that once they reached the town line, the chase had to be continued by the police force of the next town.

Understanding and matt29 when did you both graduate from the Criminal Justice Academy anyway? Seems like you both know a lot about "high speed chases" and such.

Understanding - "2. there is a law stating you are aloud to pursue high speed chase on the interstate but within town limits it is illegal for the officer to continue that chase." No there is no such law. Each department is allowed to have their own policies regarding high speed chases." Besides, you are talking about a Maine State Trooper who has jurisdiction anywhere in Maine.

matt29 – “I think in New Jersey, once the police get a plate number or other identifying information about the perpetrator, they are not allowed to continue the chase unless the person is shooting at people from their vehicle.” A) this is Maine not New Jersey. B) someone said it earlier, have you ever tried to obtain the plate number of a speeding motorcycle at interstate speeds?

matt29 – “Didn't there used to be a law that said that the police could not chase someone outside of their own jurisdiction? Meaning that once they reached the town line, the chase had to be continued by the police force of the next town.” Again, no there is no such law. Policies vary by department. Some departments policies state that if you are a graduate of the 100 Reserve Officers Course, then you may not pursue over your town line. Again, it varies from department to department.

It's so sad how quick so many of you are to label and judge a person you know nothing about.

May God judge you as harshly as you do other people's loved ones.

gixxer rider wow let me know what days your on duty so I can raise hell on my bike and get away with it. The police officer here in my opinion may of taken it to extreme but were any of us in his cruiser that day maybe the roadconditions weren't as heavy traffic or he did back off. We don't know all of the answers the bottom line is he had warrants for his arrest not just a warrant but multiple and already failed to appear to answer a different charge. My hat goes off to the officer who was able to maintain a visual of the biker and eventually arrest him.
