Community colleges plan commencements

Community colleges across the state will hold their commencement ceremonies this week, with more than 2,400 students graduating from the seven-campus system.

Washington County Community College will hold its graduation Friday in Calais.

On Saturday, commencement ceremonies will be held at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor, Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle and Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield.

WCCC, which will graduate 150 students, will start its ceremony at 11 a.m. at Calais High School. The speaker will be television host Bill Green of “Bill Green’s Maine,” which airs on WLBZ 2.

EMCC’s commencement, during which 400 students will graduate, begins at 10 a.m. at the Bangor Auditorium. EMCC Student of the Year Michael Handzel Jr. will speak.

The commencement ceremony for NMCC will take place at 10 a.m. at the NMCC gymnasium. The speaker will be Daniel Hotham, a communications instructor who is the school’s longest-serving faculty member.

KVCC will graduate 500 students in its ceremony starting at 10 a.m. at the Augusta Civic Center. Earl Smith, the president of the KVCC Foundation, will speak.

Students at Central Maine Community College in Auburn will graduate at 6 p.m. Thursday, at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston. York County Community College will holds its ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, on the YCCC campus, and the ceremony for Southern Maine Community College in South Portland will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland.
