Laid-off Maine textile workers get federal help

By The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — The government is sending Maine $463,000 to help about 100 workers laid off at True Textiles in Guilford and Newport.

The money is part of the national stimulus program. It will pay for training and services to help workers get new jobs.

The aid is in addition to other federal money for people who lose jobs because of foreign competition.

regardless how everyone got laid off, all of us on a lay off should be treated equal but not if you worked for True Textiles

NEW TRAINING MONEY WILL DO NOTHING. ITS JUST A PLOY BY THE GOVERMENT TO MAKE ITSELF LOOK GOOD. THE GOVERMENT NEEDS TO PASS IMPORT LAWS TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO COMPETE AGAINST THE IMPORTS THAT ARE TAKING OUR JOBS AWAY FROM US. ITS SO ABSURB. 20 YEARS AGO THIS AREA WAS RICH IN MANUFACTURING JOBS AND THANKS TO OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS WE NOW HAVE NOTHING.
