Search continues for missing Sedgwick fisherman

BROOKLIN, Maine — The U.S. Coast Guard and Maine Marine Patrol on Tuesday were in their second day of searching for a Sedgwick fisherman missing in the waters of Blue Hill Bay.

Robert Anderson, 46, was reported missing on Monday afternoon after he did not return from a trip to Flye Island, located off Flye Point in Brooklin.

According to Chris Berry, the operational unit controller at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England in Portland, Anderson left Stonington on Sunday afternoon for Flye Island and was scheduled to return home Monday morning.

When he did not show up, his girlfriend notified the Maine Marine Patrol. Marine Patrol officers searched the area near Flye Point where Anderson was camping. They found his 34-foot lobster boat at anchor off the island with the motor still running. No one was on board. Searchers also checked the cabin on the island where Anderson was staying.

Anderson is described as being 6 feet tall and weighing 200 pounds.

A Coast Guard 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Southwest Harbor and a Falcon jet crew from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., joined in the search at about 2 p.m. Monday, after Anderson’s boat was found.

The Marine Patrol has crews on two boats and an aircraft searching the area, and a Maine State Police dive team also is searching the area near where the boat was found.

The Coast Guard also has continued to broadcast an urgent message on radio channel 16, alerting mariners nearby to keep a lookout for the missing man.
