Continental extends Bangor service through July

BANGOR, Maine — Continental Airlines, which announced last week that it was stopping its twice-daily flights from Bangor International Airport to Newark, N.J. effective June 21, has extended that deadline to the end of July.

BIA Director Rebecca Hupp said Tuesday that Continental will continue its operations in Bangor until July 31 and that the airport will continue to work to keep Continental here in some fashion beyond that date.

“Continental’s reconsideration regarding Bangor-Newark service just a few days after their announcement last week indicates just how volatile the industry is right now,” Hupp said in a statement. “In general, the overall cuts in service are indicative of bigger problems in Newark. Continental’s service for Bangor through July 31 gives our passengers service for now but is no guarantee of continued service.”

Rebecca Hupp needs to find another job...she has done detrimental harm to BANGOR'S AIRPORT!

Fly outta Portland...it's wayyyyy cheaper!

Rebecca, you could be a hero if you could get Jet Blue to Bangor!! How about SW Air?

Look, all you people calling for the "discount" airlines to come here do not understand the economics of it. Jet Blue and Southwest and others depend on high volume to make a living. The Greater Metropolitan Bangor market does not have the population base to support volume. If we would all start to vote conservative, pro-business leaders, maybe, in time, we can rebuild the population. But currently the net net is a loss of people census after census. Fewer kids, fewer jobs, fewer, fewer, fewer...

And to you others chanting the mantra of Portland, Manchester and Logan, well, enjoy the drive. The more often you choose to fly from there, the less options you'll have at BIA.

I'd drive to Portland to fly no matter what...it's just nice to see people with teeth and women under 300 lbs.

They would rather point out the imaginary failings of a woman they don't know, who does a job they don't understand, than believe that they are wrong and have been wrong for years when it comes to the direction they are driving this state.

That's good news. Newark is an important business connection that makes travel a lot easier.
