Maine mustard presented to White House

By The Associated Press

EASTPORT — The owners of a Down East Maine mustard mill are celebrating delivery of their award-winning product to the White House.

Sen. Olympia Snowe served as the middleman, shipping over a gift pack of Raye’s Mustard in the wake of news reports on a burger run by President Obama and the chief executive’s expressed preference for mustard.

What’s described as the last remaining authentic stone-ground mustard mill in North America is owned and operated by Snowe’s former chief of staff, Maine Senate Minority Leader Kevin Raye, and his wife, Karen.

They are the fourth generation of the Raye family to own and operate the Eastport mill, which was established in 1900 to supply Maine’s once-thriving sardine industry.

Well hot dog!

The President is going to hop on the ( taxpayers) 747 and fly to Germany and get some Hot Dog's for the mustard that he got from a mustard mill in Maine

instead of trying to get Med-Care on the right track and people's pension plan's in order, he is either out playing basketball with the gang, or taking a nap

He has more to do than that, he has to go and get his Hot Dogs,,,, WHY DO WE HAVE TO HAVE LIBERALS FOR PRESIDENT'S?

IN MAINE THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE THEIR FIRST GAY MARCH DOWN MAIN ST, AND THE OBORTION CLINIC WILL BE OPEN TOMORROW ALL DAY

GREAT GOING YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB, STICK AROUND FOR A WHILE and learn how to play golf with Tiger Woods

Yuck - who likes Republican mustard?

drc480: Two words: More Fiber.

Mr. Obama is 1) human and 2) a working man like everyone else and he too gets to have some me time and to go to lunch. But I guess some of you prefer our past president of leisure who spent more time on vacation than at work, more than any othe president in history, and look how well that turned out.. How would you like If I gave you crap for partying on the weekends or going to ball games instead of spending over 80-100 hours a week already at your job. Obama works harder and longer hours than any simgle person that will post to this list and every single person on this list works harder and longer than Mr. Bush ever did. And only drc480 is dumber that him. Funny how quickly they forget.

Maybe if we start "O"borting gay babies you wacko right wingers will finally get on board with Pro Choice!

Well the mustards are great, and for the president he is doing what he can look at the mess he was left to clean up. I know I would not want to be in his position. everybody expecting this to be fixed now, but look how lond things were messed up, he is doing more then most could under the circumstances. besides he is only human he should be able to have down time and play ball or nap, I'm sure you don't work non-stop drc480.

When you deliver the Maine Muster Tell the President No more spending our meney and no health care a from the Goverment!

gregdavid: You pull no punches with your comments! Btw, I am a strong supporter of President Obama. (which is my right!!)

I know what you mean.....it is unbelievable. Our President stays up late working in his office in the White House (after he has spent some time with his family, helping his young daughters with their homework, etc. After his family goes to bed, he is up late reading and working on paperwork, etc. He is a night owl, he admits!)

Our previous President actually spent a whole lot of time at his ranch in Crawford , Texas(which was also his right) With the job they have (and who would want it! and the grave responsibility for the safety of the people of this country), they also need, as human beings, to have some relaxation time....to re-fresh. and recharge, I guess you could say.You know, after a while I do not take too seriously some of these incessant criticisims. No matter what he does! I was not a lover of George Bush, but sure did not constantly criticize every move he made as some do here. After a while, it is not entirely credible!

Any publicity for Downeast Maine and its businesses can only be a good thing....

I don't see how any of this is news that the community will benifit from?? correct me if i'am wrong.... I mean it is a great honor but really come on people.

it's great to have that kind of reach, now put the money where the people's needs are.. never gonna happen. it's a war/profit driven system these guys run. that'$ the bottom line. until that changes, nothing will. as far as ohbumma- hand full of school kids to grow your lovely gardens..take your resource$ and briiliance on washington, money used to kill people overseas- take a tour of our school systems in america (budgets being cut left and right), teach children everywhere in america to grow their own food, allocate money so we can all enjoy the benefits of a lush homegrown organic meal. oh--i know--he works so hard for our counrty, well so do the people busting butt every day, keeping our communities from falling apart or starving to death, risking their lives, bearing the brunt of the impact of the finacial crisis- where's their expensive clothing/motel rooms/vacation/food?

"Now, the Obama served Waygu steak, costing $100 per steak, at his White House arm twisting session over the need for a stimulus package that America cannot afford, but has to have because Americans are suffering so much."

at some point we have to get real about the insanity and human cost of their luxury.

how long before the taxpayers say enough is enough?

Make the president eat the same food our military people eat. and not the high cost foods the the common people can not afford to eat.

We now know who State Senator Raye will be voting for in 2012. Nobody ever accused Senator Raye of being a traditional Republican anyway.

Another dazzling exciting story from Maine

gregdavid Hey my friend you have not seen nothing as yet, wait till he gets to know how the system works, this mess that we are in did not start with Bush, it started when the great cigar smoker got into office, Why blame the Bush administration trying to keep from America from getting more 9/11s. You got it wrong my friend, and so does the Liberal that voted for ( mark my words) a President that surely will get his lunch time and it will not be hot dogs with Maine mustard on it. All of you liberals want is for a big government so you can live off the person that is paying taxes

gregdavid has his mind on foodstamps and anything that he can get free from the government. Oh yes he works 40 hours a week,, what a joke.

and for the oborting gay babies, even if the babies turns out gay, I would never have the baby aborted, that is why no one aborts you

The President of the USA I do not think should be helping out his children with their homework, they go to school for that don't they?

I can not understand why gregdavid has this thing about the G.O.P. I guess he goes along with the understanding Mainer who vote for anyone who will give them 250.00 and put a tax on it so you have to pay for it at the end of the year. Well he can take my 250. and pay for the woman from Cameroon baby that she is going to have before she goes to jail.

Apparently none of you have eaten this mustard. Once the President tries it, he won't want anything else. I'm willing to bet he has already had it, or already eats it.

It is the best stuff!

drc480 you must have bumped your crazy little right wing head. I am amazed that you have tried to take a feel good story about a local business and transform it into a platform to bash Obama and gays and women's rights. Amazed, yet not surprised. Your politics blind you. Sad really. It must be frustrating and frightening to you that your antiquated conservative/bigoted beliefs are being shown the door and you party is all but irrelevant. Cheney, Bush, Rove and Limbaugh have all had there chance to rally the nation positively and they failed. Miserably. Very miserably. For good and well documented reasons, history notes the Bush regime as forever being the most unpopular/politically damaging administration in the history of our great country. A stain/blight on our nation and not even a well crafted spin from Carl Rove will ever change that. So before you flame the democrats get your facts straight. But most of all please get your head out of your behind.

Congrats DownEast Maine Mustard some great PR for you!

I also think it a great thing when any Maine products, resources, people, business etc. gets recognition for what they do or provide...send everything made in Maine to President Obama and it just might spark an interest from others and who knows? Just may help out our fair state....

I also like the idea of this great mustard from Maine being at the White House now. And I hope it only helps the Rayes' business too. Hope more products from Maine will get more publicity in this manner (our blueberries have in the past, as one example.) It is good to read stories like this. We need the "lighter moments" too!

Liberals blow goats..... no really, they do!! something about natural protien or what ever,I dont get it.

The mustard will go nicely with all the bologna at the White House!
