The award-winning documentary about three Bangor International Airport troop greeters has a prime-time slot for its television premiere, and continues to rack up stellar notices and prizes.

“The Way We Get By,” directed by Old Town native Aron Gaudet and produced by Gita Pullapilly, will air on MPBN at 10 p.m. Nov. 11, Veterans Day. The PBS program “P.O.V.,” which features documentary works, will show the movie.

“We couldn’t be happier with this news,” the filmmakers wrote on their Web site. “This is the perfect time slot for the film.”

The movie won two awards, the Documentary Feature Jury Prize and the Audience Award for Documentary Feature, at the 2009 Newport International Film Festival earlier this month.

Last month the film won the first Golden Rock award for Best Documentary at the third annual Little Rock Film Festival in Arkansas.

“The Way We Get By” is playing now in Silverdocs, the American Film Institute-Discovery Channel Film Festival in Washington, D.C.

Later this week the movie will play as part of the Nantucket Film Festival in Massachusetts and also in Portland at the SPACE Alternative Arts Venue.

Other Maine screenings include 7 p.m. July 18, at Waterman’s Community Center in North Haven; 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. June 25-26, at the Colonial Theatre in Belfast; 8 p.m. June 27 and 3 p.m. June 28, at the Strand Theatre in Rockland; and 7:30 p.m. July 10 and 11 and 2 p.m. July 12 at The Grand in Ellsworth.

To the producer - How about actually showing the film in the Bangor area?

How about showing it at the outdoors movies in downtown Bangor this summer - as a short between or before the feature film. Let's honor our own who honor the Country's Own.

Great idea.How bout local?
