PORTLAND — A Medway man charged with distributing nearly 300 pounds of marijuana in the Millinocket area for Chad Marquis, 33, of Fort Kent pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court in Portland to drug and attempted Social Security fraud charges.

Michael Donato, 49, admitted that from 2003 until Marquis’ arrest in May 2007 he sold marijuana from his home. He also pleaded guilty to failing to report the proceeds from his drug sales to Social Security while he was receiving disability benefits.

He faces a mandatory minimum of five years in federal prison on the drug conspiracy charge. Donato, who had been free on $15,000 unsecured bail since his arraignment in November, will be held without bail until his sentencing, scheduled for Oct. 1 in Portland.

"He also pleaded guilty to failing to report the proceeds from his drug sales to Social Security while he was receiving disability benefits." What??!!! He didn't report the drug money he made?? That's it lock him up forever... some people have such nerve! *eyeroll* I mean come on, it's one thing to sell it but to keep it from the government!!!! LMAO

HAHA, is ther a special form for that? Can i just pick that up at the IRS office or the Post office? That right there is pretty much saying it should be legal and the goverment wouldn't care. That's priceless... I'm printing this article to put on the front counter at work!

Just legalize it already. The laws do far more harm than the drug.

SOLUTION: Legalize marijuana, tax it, pay off Obama's debt, make up to $7 Billion on revenue per year while saving $8 Billion on federal funding for marijuana crack-downs and prison costs, and use marijuana and hemp to produce environmentally safe paper and medical products. That's a net gain of $15 Billion that we could be using on improving roadways and the American quality of life.

So if he frauded Social Security then what is he going to do when he gets out in a few years, if he can't work?

wonder if he will get more or less than Chad Marquis. One guy, supplying the dope (selling wholesale?) gets off with 33 months while the idiot that sold to the customers is getting at least 5 years? Something isn't right there!

That would be the 420 form, available at your local post office.

Ah, our quality maine welfare dollars at work! so since this guy had a job, can we get our money back?

Too bad he doesn't know Fr. Jim, John Martin and Dr. Richard Cost. Chad's sentence was supposed to be minimum 5 years also. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Nobull 6/25/09 2:52 p.m. post~ I agree 100%. But of course, our elected officials would find a way to blow those tax dollars too, because "we the people" aren't watching them! It's our own fault, and until we decide to take responsibility, demand changes and keep a closer eye on the till, we can expect nothing less. Talk about embezzlement... our elected officials are the worst!! They hire their relatives and friends to do government work, with the end result being overpriced shoddy work... what do "we the people do".... we sit back and complain but do nothing. We are the stupid ones!!

pcme2000 6/25/09 4:22 p.m. post~ He'll go on welfare.

Jennifer 6/25/09 4:24 p.m. post~ Yes, that's right, those are our laws... unless we demand changes ... things will stay the same and we will see more of the same.

JMill85 6/25/09 5:35 pm. post~ This guy didn't even have to pay a fine. Chad Marquis crossed international lines to smuggle the marijuana, so the penalty and fines are much stiffer for him.

DAMN, And here iv,e been supplamenting my retirement income with actual work, boy have I been screwing up and supporting this dirtbag at the same time.

This is why marijuana should be regulated and taxed!

Reforming our laws on marijuana I think is an issue that both conservatives and liberals can agree on. Marijuana reform could unite this country and lead us out of this current economic and government budget crisises.

Mike Donato is a dirtbag, been sellin drugs for 30yrs at this residence, hes a liar & a thief !!!!! now how much do u think he made in 30yrs sellin pot??? He was sellin drugs when he hit millinocket as a child, then moved to medway, he an his g/f Della should b proud of what they own its all paid for by the tax payers!!!! When are they caming for his truck, her new car, their house that he was peddling in? the 4 wheelers? the boats? the snowmobiles?? when are they coming for this to pay back a drop in the bucket for this debt back to us the TAXPAYERS!!! an the fines should b switch 250,000 for soc security fraud? that should be the 2million fine!!! that would go back to that taxpayers an pay someone that has EARNED social security, not the state in fines so they governor an all these other greedy pricks can blow it in their own back yard!!!

hey bug.... F#CK YOU!

Hey Bug, for starters you should type things that you really dont know about you know so much mike and della are married, the new boats and snowsleds were all second hand and the boat mike didnt own I did and why do you have to pick on a women who hasnt done anything to anyone but be kind and nice you sit on the hill and just run your big mouth i know who you are and you have nothing to say becouse your clueless and im not afraid to put my name to this unlike you you hide behind a screen name bugin a rug more like your a cockroach Dellas BestFriend Dawn Stanley

Wonder if the IRS will step up and go after whatever is left....happens all the time. Drug dealers failing to report the income to the federal government and fail to pay income taxes on that money! Since it wasn't reported to social security I am sure it wasn't reported to the IRS! It won't be long before they come collecting.

Dawn, does it really matter whether the snowsleds were second hand or not? If they were purchased when he was dealing they should have been forfeited. The wife didn't know he was dealing? I would find that hard to believe. They may be the nicest people in the world it doesn't matter. The law was broken and it is time to pay the piper.

nice work dawn .

Jennifer: Maybe if there was a way to report incomes and income taxes without incriminating themselves in the process, maybe they would do so.

Regulation and taxation is the way out of this current mess. Continuing the current course is unsustainable.

I dont understand some people out there. They complain about people taking advantage of social security for disability benifits.

You would think, if there was a product that a person could grow, claim an income, make a decent living, and not have to be dependant on social security, then they would support that implementation.

Why not allow people to create their own wealth?

Why not allow people to make a living creating a product which demand is vast.

Why not provide the State of Maine a reliable tax stream from the sale of marijuana, and bring true tax relief to Mainers?

I hope they post the day of the Auction!!!

what's the cockroach's name dawn?

well ya the irs/disability wants thier part too-you can't sell a turd without paying taxes on it
