3 arrested in Portland, Maine, robbery

By The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — Police say three young men face robbery charges after a man and a woman were robbed at knifepoint during the early morning in Portland.

The Portland Press Herald said a man flagged down a police cruiser at 1 a.m. Thursday to report that he and his female companion were accosted by a large group of men at the corner of Madison and Anderson streets. The man told police that one of the men flashed a knife and that the robbers took his wallet, credit cards and a cell phone.

A short time later, police spotted a group of men matching the description of the robbers.

The men charged with the robbery were identified as 23-year-old Abdi Awad, 20-year-old Ismail Awad and 22-year-old Tsegai Biniam.

Wow.. nice names.

Shall we say "deportation"?

Can Amazed and sidelineobserver say "racist" or "jump to conclusions?"

To what conclusions did amazed jump? These are Somali names and Anderson Street in Kennedy Park is a Neighborhood with a Somali population.

Pointing out,the fact that disproportionate amount of Portland's crime is attributable to Somali immigrants is not racist. It would seem that some people would have you ignore what you see, what you read in favor of their Kumbyah approach to societal dynamics.

To the conclusion that deportation is even an option. For all we know they are US citizens. But something tells me that even if they were US citizens it would not affect their - or your own - opinion.

Markko 6/26/09 7:58 a.m. post~ My comment was not meant as a racist comment at all. The comment was made because I believed that these people were probably not born in this country and because of their actions, they would now more than likely be deported.

markko: I agree. There is not enough information in this "article" to jump to the conclusions that some are here. Just not enough information.....so it is at least partly speculation, and not sure why one would do that.
