By The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — Police say a man from Brunswick, Maine, has been killed in a motorcycle accident in Augusta.

The crash shut down Route 3 for almost four hours Sunday afternoon, WCSH-TV reported.

Police say the 42-year-old man was passing a truck with his motorcycle when his bike caught the front of the truck and lost control. A 22-year-old female passenger with him was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with what police said were critical injuries.

Their names haven't been released.

The driver and passenger of the truck were uninjured.

Someone cut-in a little too early. Oncoming traffic (unsafe passing) perhaps?

I would like to think that this accident was avoidable. Tragic for all involved.

All accidents are avoidable, as long as humans are not involved, then all bets are off.
