US Census in Maine looking for workers

By The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — The U.S. Census Bureau is opening an office in Gardiner, Maine, this fall and plans to hire up to 1,000 people.

Patrick Burke of the state’s census operations, said the Gardiner location marks the first time the census has had an office in central Maine. That one and another office in Bangor will open in October, the Kennebec Journal reported.

Burke said the jobs pay $13.25 an hour. People will be hired based on test results and work 20 to 35 hours a week.

Recruiting will start in the fall with most hiring happening in the spring of 2010.

Great news for the state of maine

Well that's good news.

All a person is required to answer on the census is the number of persons living in the household........Obama , Rahm Emmanuel and ACORN have taken over the census and will be using the results for "redistricting".....to ensure that Obama and the Dems continue their reign of terrror......

Ladyslipper...the census has been used by the party in power in Congress for years. This year it is the same old story. Yes, the census is "housed" in the White House this year and that is of concern. However, you choice of words "reign of terror" I believe is a bit strong.

Now, what action are you taking to express your displeasure besides the comments section of the BDN? Have you taken the time to write your elected representatives? Just curious.

We should all write our elected leaders. Coming on the BDN site to express an opinion is one thing....but more important to follow through and contact one's representatives (email, calls, etc.) Hope many do take the time to do this.

WOW, 1000 jobs and nobody is happy.

Typical comments.

Ladyslipper is absolutly correct. The only thing they're getting out of me is that there is only one person living here. "Reign of terror" is spot on. These SOB's have pissed away trillions. They want the government to be in control of every aspect of every citizens life. God help us all if they are not stopped. The whole bunch of them are nothing more than evil, communist thugs. I hope all you morons who voted for Commrad Obama realize the kind of evil you have loosed upon this country.

JD2008, I find YOUR choice of words ,concerning the census takeover by the White House as "a concern" a bit naive. And furthermore I do not believe I need to report to you as to what "action" I take on any issue.

jsulli61, it is refreshing to know that there are people like you out there that "get it " .........

Oh my lord... these comments with their rampant paranoia go beyond scary.

OK, 1,000 jobs, that's Good.

Office/ recruiting doesn't Start until Fall, Long wait for an interview, that's Bad.

$13.25 an hour, that's pretty Good.

It's a gubermint job, payed by more Taxes, that's Bad

Have to pass a Test to be able to fill out a form, Oops, high dropout rate, that's Bad.

20 to 35 hrs. a week, more like part time, not quite full time, no bennies, better than nothing,

but you really didn't want to work too hard anyways?

Q. If you get bit by a dog can you collect gubermint disability and be on the dole for the rest of your life?

I can see all the pain & suffering with long term mental anguish already. Quick, call Joe Bornstein.

Won't be hiring until the spring of 2010, dh@mn, I'll be starved and froze by then, that's Bad.

You can get a job with ACORN at the same time and get Two paychecks for doing the same rounds !

Hmmm, Is that Good or Bad? Depends if you're the porker or the porkee ?

LOL, Hey I have to laugh or I'd cry.
