Memorial dedication, art exhibit, dance to remember Charlie Howard in Bangor

Following is the schedule of events, all to be held in Bangor, marking the 25th anniversary of Charlie Howard’s death:

— Remembrance with a vesper service at 6:30 p.m. today at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 120 Park St., led by the Rev. Susan E. Davies of the Bangor Theological Seminary. The Charlie Howard Memorial at the State Street bridge will be dedicated after the service.

— Concert with Maine Gay Men's Chorus, Women with Wings and Voices for Peace at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Unitarian Universalist Church, 120 Park St.

— Reception and art exhibit, “Charlie Howard, 25 Years Later, How Far Has Maine Come?” from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the Bangor Public Library.

— Pizza supper and film, “Inlaws and Outlaws,” 6 p.m. Friday, at Hammond Street Congregational Church, $5 for supper.

— Workshops from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Hammond Street Congregational Church:

9-10:30 a.m., Darlene Huntress, “Marriage Equality for Maine in 2009.”

11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., the Rev. Marvin M. Ellison, Bangor Theological Seminary, “Reading the Bible Through a Queer Lens.”

11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., “Ugly Ducklings,” film with discussion, by Hardy Girls, Healthy Women.

— Bridge Alliance dance, 7-11 p.m. Saturday at Wellman Commons, 300 Union St. Handicapped-accessible, $5 donation.

— 25th Charlie Howard Memorial Service followed by a walk to the State Street bridge and the casting of flowers into the stream, 9 a.m. Sunday, Unitarian Universalist Church, 120 Park St., led by the Rev. Richard Forcier, minister at the Unitarian Church in 1984.

If I could attend I would just to show my support for the gay community as well as to pay respect for this man who lost his life to homophobic bigots. I'm not a homosexual but I support them 100%

Sounds like some wonderful events listed here.

I wish I could be there. Like Kevin_of_Bangor and chersully2000, I am not a homosexual but I beleive in tolerence. Go in Peace.
