Farmers' Almanac says sorry about the rain

LEWISTON, Maine — Sometimes, it hurts to be right.

The editor of the Farmers' Almanac is apologizing — a lot — for accurately predicting a wet summer in the Northeast.

Peter Geiger says June's temperatures were cooler than he expected, but the rest of the forecast was, unfortunately, pretty accurate. The almanac called for lots of showers, storms clouds and rain over all of New England throughout that month.

Lewiston's Sun Journal newspaper says the almanac's forecast for July and August shows scattered showers, lightning, thunderstorms, wind and rain. And September is equally sketchy. The almanac says it's set to begin with "record-low temperatures."

"record-low temperatures"?

Queue the climate change moonbats...

so much for global warming.

Rainmaker- This IS global warming. Just because it isn't warm doesn't mean it's not.

Good maybe we will have an actually Maine winter this winter. Not just little snow storms but nice big old fashion snow storms.

That is why they changed the name from Global Warming to Climate Change.

Turns out the data doesn't support this silly crap anymore than it did the idea of Global Cooling in the 80s.

They have too much invested in the data to just throw it out though.

Global Warming is the biggest farce in the history of farces. Complete rubbish. Ask any meteorologist.

Appology accepted Farmers Almanac.

pcme- are you saying we didnt have big storms this year? I thought we did!

I was In Maine just before christmas, I remember a 2 foot blizzard and some cold tems I had not felt in years.

I threw my Farmers Almanac in the wood stove last night to help warm up the house....I appologize Mr Geiger....

LOL pab!! One of the little things I don't miss is cold summers.

Who cares?

Well, all that cool air coming off the melting Arctic Ocean has got to go somewhere....

Oh, and now we've got a new El Nino. Hmmm... a warmer Arctic Ocean and a warmer Paciific Ocean. Looks llike plenty of clouds and rain for us for awhile. That IS climate change for anyone not old enough to remember what the average weather used to be like.

Sure Oldtimer, it is climate change, but all of this "man-made" stuff is a bunch of Malarky. Don't you find it interesting that these brilliant scientist can predict what the weather will be 50 years from now even though they still can't accurately predict what the weather will be 50 hours from now?

ummm...pcme2000 - I don't know where you are from but we had more of our fair share of snow in northern maine this past winter!

Because someone is cutting down the rain forests in Central America, the jet stream has shifted. Now the rain forests will be relocated to the Northeast coast of the US of A.

Tom ;

It blows my mind that there are people out there that really believe that climate change is just liberal propaganda. Pull your heads out of Rush's ass. Climate change isn't a debate any longer...it's fact. The debate is what type of change will occur.

With this this prediction 1 1/2 to 2 years in advance, it is not surprising the "Pros" try to brush you off as a know nothing. Meteorologists seem to be in one of the few occupations where one can be wrong frequently and still get paid. Global warming???? Hummm, a lot of hot air in Augusta and Washington D.C., do you suppose,,,,,,,,

daniel662: Right on!

Just because we are having rainy and unseasonable conditions now does not have any bearing on the overall patterns of change. No one said it was going to happen in a steady pattern but that does not undercut the realities of climate change that are being witnessed and meticuously documented by scientists and others.

Send some rain and cooler weather to Arizona, these 110 degree days are getting harder and harder to handle, not to mention $400.00 a month electric bills.

global warming is real, the notion that it is man made is a bunch of democrap! people have been on earth for thousands of years, weve had heavy industry for only 200 years and accurate record keeping for only 120. theres not enough evidence to prove global warming, this is a carryover from the hippie days and all that earthchild nonsense, we are not a threat to the earth, the earth is a threat to us!

A real Maine winter? Wow, last I knew we had quite a bit of snow this past winter. I can remember being out many many many times plowing and sanding the streets for 24 plus hours at a time. I would chance ot say we had a pretty good Maine winter. At least where I am we had a good one. Have fun and enjoy this little bit of SUN!

Global Warming/Climate Change is real and it is man-made. To what extent it is man made we don't know but the fact that CO2 is a greenhouse gas means that the more CO2, the more climates change. Anyone with an internet connection can do their own research but don't believe the "research" from companies hired by gas/oil executives and WVOM talk-show hosts. At least watch "An Inconvenient Truth" no matter what your political persuasion if you haven't already. It explains why there is more rain and precipitation and messed up weather...actually everything in that movie is coming true so far.

Well, I'm still trying to figure out why people are debating whether or not climate change is real. Who cares? Wouldn't you want to take care of the Earth regardless of what we think is happening to it? I don't think many people would voluntarily trash their homes or allow other people to do the same. So why are we trashing the planet? Walk/bike/carpool as much as you can, use less, recycle more, advocate for more green energy...it's really not that difficult. Instead of moaning about gay marriage or complaining about political parties, you could take that time to clean up a sidewalk or along the road. Peace.

ms_sherlock, well said but then most of your posts are.

Before you watch Al Gore propaganda movie remember this from a court ruling in Britain about the movie.

* The film claims that melting snows on Mount Kilimanjaro evidence global warming. The Government's expert was forced to concede that this is not correct.

* The film suggests that evidence from ice cores proves that rising CO2 causes temperature increases over 650,000 years. The Court found that the film was misleading: over that period the rises in CO2 lagged behind the temperature rises by 800-2000 years.

* The film uses emotive images of Hurricane Katrina and suggests that this has been caused by global warming. The Government's expert had to accept that it was "not possible" to attribute one-off events to global warming.

* The film shows the drying up of Lake Chad and claims that this was caused by global warming. The Government's expert had to accept that this was not the case.

* The film claims that a study showed that polar bears had drowned due to disappearing arctic ice. It turned out that Mr Gore had misread the study: in fact four polar bears drowned and this was because of a particularly violent storm.

* The film threatens that global warming could stop the Gulf Stream throwing Europe into an ice age: the Claimant's evidence was that this was a scientific impossibility.

* The film blames global warming for species losses including coral reef bleaching. The Government could not find any evidence to support this claim.

* The film suggests that the Greenland ice covering could melt causing sea levels to rise dangerously. The evidence is that Greenland will not melt for millennia.

* The film suggests that the Antarctic ice covering is melting, the evidence was that it is in fact increasing.

* The film suggests that sea levels could rise by 7m causing the displacement of millions of people. In fact the evidence is that sea levels are expected to rise by about 40cm over the next hundred years and that there is no such threat of massive migration.

If global warming is man made, then why are polar caps on other planets melting at a faster rate than earth?
