Lawyer: Deputies behaved like 'cowboys'

By The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — The lawyer for a Maine man who was shot by deputies who surrounded his home says they had no right to use the tactics they did.

The Portland Press Herald reports Thomas Hallett says deputies caused the situation to escalate by acting like “cowboys” with SWAT team tactics that were unwarranted, and unlawful.

Douglas Tenczar was shot after he allegedly aimed a shotgun in the direction officers in October in the town of Sebago. Hallett says the deputies didn't identify themselves when they arrived to question him about a road rage incident in which he allegedly showed a gun.

Tenczar was hit with multiple shots and eventually lost his right arm. Hallett argued Thursday to suppress statements and evidence from his trial for criminal threatening with a firearm.

If you are going to be a 'threat' to society and act like a jack@ss... expect to be brought down by the police. Don't whine about it after because no law abiding citizen is going to care. Period.

berquis LOL!! Seems like a lot of info and interpretation missing here...states his home was surrounded, any time that many cops are involved maybe the blue lights would have been a clue.....does not talk about someone going up and ringing the door bell....I guess IMHO when you point a gun at someone the time for introductions would seem to be a secondary priority....

What's the sense in having all those guns and equuipment if you never get a chance to use them? Yee ha!

The police must have used camo police cars and sent in a recon team using all methods of concealment. He points a gun (allegedly of course) and the police were all supposed to drop their weapons and surrender. If someone (allegedly) shows me a gun as a possible threat during their road rage...I would hope the "cowboys" go get him.

Mighty fine shootin' pahdnuh!

What's wrong with cowboys?

Looks like you got alot of serious government worshippers up there too. You read, you assume, you match it to your cop TV doctrine, you judge, you rave , you chant, just like any cult or false religion.

How come I know more about this case living more than 1000 miles away and can see obvious flaws in this incident not to mention made up "facts" by commenters that just didnt exist according to other news like flashing lights when they walked to the house in darkness from some distance? The fact that the "so called road rage victims" were actually claimed to be an ongoing feud against this man? I could probably name 50 more like this but Im sure Im talking to a brick.

I want to say ahead of time same on this paper if they hide anything but the mindless chanters that rally for agreement with nothing and print politics rather than truth, if that is the case.
