I think that Sotomayor will do as good of a job, if not better than anyone else.

The whole process is a joke. As been said before, with the winner comes the spoils. Snowe and Collins and most of the republicans will vote for her because they will not run into disfavor with the Hispanic voters. The USSC is now about empathy and not the law. Sadly when either party appoints a judge, it is because they have a good idea they will be of their own mentality no matter how much they try to say it ain't so. And these judges and politicians who say they don't want someone to legislate from the bench...well...one thing about her...she said point blank that's what they do. But who cares!

If Senator Snowe runs again, which is doubtful, she will win. Many Republicans may snub her but she has the Independent and most of the Democratic vote, actually a lot of true Republicans still support her. Her only weakness is the neo-conservatives. The traditional conservatives, moderates and moderate liberals still support her.

I recently read that she's with the President and his views, i.e. reducing 2nd amendment rights for gun owners. I will have to do some more research.

This petition advised emailling your reps to express your disfavor with her appointment because of that. I agree.

I would hate to live in a time when only criminals and the military had weapons. The founders knew what they were doing when they put that amendment in the constitution. I worry about Homeland security forces and the Patriot Act; which is a set of laws pushed through by then President Bush using the emergency powers act. The laws weren't legislated into existence! There is no sunset clause built into the Act either.

Olympia has been giving the people of Maine the Snowe job on her party affiliation for years. She hasn't been a Republican for decades. Neither has Collins. As for Sotomayor, maybe she'll actually hold to the Constitution like she said during her hearing. But, according to her past record, I don't think she will. At best, she'll be middle of the road like the person she's replacing.

Thank you, Olympia Snowe. ( a few other Republicans are voting for confirmation....one in Fla (have to look up the name!); also, it looks likely that Lindsay Graham will sign on, among a few others.

Snowe and Collins are Republicans, they're moderate ones. Closer to true conservatives to any Republican I've seen posting here. The Rep. party went neo-conservative and that's why their numbers dropped to 30% of the American public and they lost the House, Senate and White House. Continuing in the same vein will only make the Democrats really happy.

Seems Collins is leading the mind of Pat Blanchette, who feels she could care less of what the constituency thinks and would themselves vote for, and keeping the voters themselves out of the secrets of political process.

I, too, were a 37-year Republican-turned-Independent now for 10 years+, but my voting conscience does not seem to echo Collins'. I, too could be considered conservative. However, I do not like Sotomayor at all. I don't like anything about her. She speaks with a forked tongue, and to me, any person who is appointed by Obama has hidden agendas or is non-qualified for the job. She is implaced in the Judge's seat because of her racial and radical history which will be brought forth in decisions made sitting on the Supreme Court.

The hearings are a joke; a political sideshow. She will get in. God help us...again! Wait until the "get rid of all illegal aliens" contest comes up and the non-proactive move on the US border enforcement policies kick in and the "help the poor illegals" arises on the tables of the Senate. Us poor Joe's who are supporting her 'favored kind' through increased taxation, do not stand a snowball's chance in hell to remain a snowball for long!

By the time she's up for re-election, her senate votes will have already trashed the country beyond comprehension. You voted for her.. suck it up.

I love Senator Snowe. One of the most distinguished Senators in the United States Senate. Had she been McCain's running mate, McCain would now be President.

BTW... if she does run again she will not need any of your (above) votes, the moderates and real Republicans will vote her in (and probably even a few left leaning centrists). : - )

I have met both Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, briefly. Susan comes often to Bangor as she has a home here. Both are really nice, accessible, intelligent, dedicated and hard-working. They do not cast their votes just on the basis of getting re-elected which is also to their credit. I do not think Olympia has anything to worry about if she runs again either. Both are very respected in this country by many.
