BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor man police arrested two weeks ago for the murder of 19-year-old Holly Boutilier of Old Town was indicted Monday by the Penobscot County grand jury.

Colin Koehler, 34, of Bangor allegedly went for a walk along the waterfront with the victim and a 27-year-old Bangor man on Aug. 8. When the trio got to a shack hidden in the trees between the end of Dutton Street and the Veterans’ Remembrance Bridge, Koehler used a small curved Japanese-style knife to stab her multiple times and cut her throat, court documents state.

Koehler and the male witness were caught on Hollywood Slots video surveillance cameras leaving the area at 2:11 p.m. Aug. 8, according to police. After walking down Main Street, which included a stop at Shaw’s grocery store, the two proceeded to Koehler’s Columbia Street apartment, where he placed the weapon on top of the refrigerator, the witness told police.

In the four-page police affidavit, which was filed in Penobscot County Superior Court on Aug. 13, police spoke with two people — Koehler’s ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend — who both said he admitted to killing Boutilier during phone conversations on Sunday, Aug. 9.

The boyfriend, a 34-year-old Bangor man, also told police that Koehler had text messaged him on Aug. 9 asking him to “meet him in the area of I-395 overpass, under the bridge.” When the boyfriend responded that he didn’t meet his enemies on their turf, “Koehler answered that it was too bad that Holly didn’t know that,” the affidavit states.

Bangor police arrested Koehler on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at his downtown apartment after a standoff. He made his first court appearance on Aug. 13 in Penobscot County Superior Court and did not enter a plea.

Koehler was indicted Monday for intentional or knowing murder. He is being held without bail at the Penobscot County Jail. Last week, Koehler waived his right to a bail hearing but could ask for one at a future date.

i just want to ssccrrrrrreeeeeeeam! aaarrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

rest in peace holly:( such a tragedy.

i agree disable the comments to protect holly and her family!

If he's convicted, this slimeball makes for a perfect example of why I believe we need the death penalty. We as taxpayers will house, feed, and maintain this sicko for the rest of his life at a cost of around $40,000. per year. That's the second tragedy in this case.

It is VERY sad what happened to Holy. No one should have to die that way! And from the sound of it this guy was going to kill someone else from this artical.

nice to see everyone up and at em this morning trying to squash the first ammendment. if people want to comment, let them comment. if you don't want to be upset by the comments, simply don't read them.

I wonder if Koehler was trying to set up the ex's new boyfriend for Holly's murder .... I hope he goes to prison and suffers every single day for the rest of his pathetic life in there.

he doesn't even deserve to be in jail. they should bring him down to that shack and do to him what he did to holly, may she rest in peace. and i feel so bad for her family. i hope they have a day of remberance for her too.

I still think that the witness who was at the murder scene and stayed and watched it, then kept Koehler company to walk to the store and then back to his apartment should go down as much as the murderer, I don't believe the I was scared,or I was in shock, scared or shocked, i'm sure he could have gotten away when he was in the store to go report it. He is as guilty as Koehler, and I hope thet he gets at the minimum, assessory to murder.

THE STATE SHOULD'NT PAY TO HOUSE & FEED THIS SLIMEBALL.

I firmly believe in " AN EYE FOR AN EYE "..What chance did Holly even have against this murderer that is 6'4'' tall bearing a weapon ? Oh yeah, that LOSER that was standing there watching the whole thing go down. If you ask me he is an accomplice. Who does this murderer think he is to take another human beings life away from them, especially this beautiful teenaged girl who has not even had the chance to really live her life ? He has no right to take gods plan into his own hands and decide her fate for her...What kind of person could do such a terrible thing to someone else ? Stab them from the behind when they are not even looking at you ? A COWARD THAT'S WHO, A GUY WITH NO LIFE TO LIVE JUST FANTASY..Now Colin can live out his fantasy-land in jail where he belongs (He doesn't even belong there he belongs in HELL) and he will NEVER live 1 day without thinking about what he has done....He will never live outside those four grey walls again & you can count on him dying ALONE....Like he so very much deserves to die alone with no family or loved ones just like Holly had no family around when she breathed her last breaths.. I hate to even put Holly and her murderer in the same sentence because it does not evem seem right..

I believe in my heart of hearts that he will get what is coming to him, what he deserves oh sooooooooo much.Let him rot or die in there! ! ! ! ! !

MY DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO HOLLYS FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND GOD BLESS YOU. REST IN PEACE HOLLY <3 <3 <3

Was Koehler's friend who saw the murder take place an accomplice or just someone who had no idea this was going to happen and was in total shock that this whole thing took place? Was he afraid that Koehler would do the same thing to him? The specifics, will of course come out in court. Thank God the 34 year old boyfriend made a choice not to meet Koehler down by the I395 over pass... otherwise we maybe would have been reading about 2 deaths in this case.

There's no doubt that Koehler perhaps suffers from schizophrenia or another type of mental illness which caused him to suddenly turn into a cold blooded monster that day. Thank God he's not asking to get out of jail, he's safe there and we are all safer while he's there. I'm not happy about having to house these people either... they get 3 squares a day, free medication, T.V., games, libraries, and the list goes on. What about those who are out on the street and are law abiding citizens, with absolutely no place to live, who need medication and 3 squares a day? Something is certainly wrong with this picture!!

I agree with almost everyone here this loser deserves the harshest puishment Maine will allow and in addition to this a picture of Holly needs to be put in his cell with him so he has to look at her everyday and answer for why he decided to do this terrible crime to her. I also agree that the witness has to be charged also because I know that if I was with a couple of my friends and one of them did this to the other one I would run like HELL, not walk off with them making small talk, go grocery shopping, then back to hang out with them not matter if I was in shock or not. It just doesn't make any sense??

Holly may you rest in peace knowing that this LOSER will pay for the crime he commited against you!!!!!

I just noticed that this story says that the boyfriend was 34 and the last article said he was a 20 year old so which one is it?????

Amazed :

A person in shock or in fear for their life would not walk from the murder scene making small talk then to a store to buy stuff and then to his apartment to hang out. No way in hell. If he was in the store he could have gone out the back or said he had to use the bathroom and gone to the back and used the phone,or ran off while he was attacking Holly. There are many things he could have done, but did not do one thing except accompany Koehler to/at/and away from the murder scene, and then continued to go to a store and then on to his apartment. Not afraid/not in shock he's just covering his butt by saying he was scared or in shock. As many people have commented if they were in the witnesses shoes they would have run like hell if they saw something like that take place.

Believe it or not it is just as costly, and in some cases more costly, to put someone to death as it is to incarcerate them for life. Personally, I think the death penalty is too lenient. Persons convicted of capital crimes should stay on this earth as long as possible incarcerated in prison. That is the only revenge.

"The liberal wienies perfer to pay for someone to sit in jail instead of turning their lights out for good. "

The ultimate deterrent to crime, I suppose, is death. The perpetrator dies and that's it. Do we shoot tax evaders?

"he doesn't even deserve to be in jail. they should bring him down to that shack and do to him what he did to holly, "

And who shall we hire for this task? I might be conscripted, but never would I do it willingly. Will you do it?

"I still think that the witness who was at the murder scene and stayed and watched it, then kept Koehler company to walk to the store and then back to his apartment should go down as much as the murderer,"

He should be charged definitely. With what crime has yet to be disclosed. Perhaps he has immunity, however, because he came forward.

"I firmly believe in " AN EYE FOR AN EYE ".."

Your eye for his? I'll keep both of mine thankyouverymuch. BTW...that's Old Testament.....fullfilled by prophesy and proclaimed obsolete. Only muslims believe that crap anymore.

"I agree with almost everyone here this loser deserves the harshest puishment Maine will allow and in addition to this a picture of Holly needs to be put in his cell with him so he has to look at her everyday and answer for why he decided to do this terrible crime to her."

Cruel and unusual punishment. Our Constitution specifically forbids it. When we depart from our Constitution, and we neglect due process of law; we become no better than the dirtballs we are prosecuting. Don't you get it?

I get it.. i get it. You can help me get me signed up with the MCLU and the ACLU

I do not think that he will last very long in jail unless they keep him in solutary confinement. There is a higherarchy in jail and child killers are at the very bottom.

"I get it.. i get it. You can help me get me signed up with the MCLU and the ACLU "

As a society we extend basic rights to everyone. This has made our society one of the greatest ones to exist on earth.

I, as much as you detest the individual alleged to have committed this crime.

....

When we extend basic rights to even the lowest of the low, how much more does that guarantee our rights as decent citizens?

When we depart from our Constitution we become barbarians. We become no better than middle eastern muslims with their summary punishments and brutal treatments.

We are better than that.

I'll be honest. I look at the pictures in the paper of that man and I see s cretin....a skank....a lowlife, lowbrow underachiever who has never amounted to anything and likely never will.

He is, however, a citizen of the United States and entitled to his 5th Amendment Rights.

Remember this...the rights and treatment we extend to others is what we get in return.

Kevin can you believe it i mentinoed to stop comments and it gets removed lol but yours still there. Isnt that wierd.

Supermax, everyday solitary confinement. They say, people slowly loose their minds in a supermax prison, 23 hrs a day in a cell. I hope he lives a very very long time. Day after day locked, rotting in super max. Sure it costs money, but why make death easy for this trash. I don’t mind the bill.

He has that crazy nor'easter look to him.

One eye goes to the north, the other to the east.

sorry for holly,friends and familly

lets give him a free college education and try to rehabilitate him
