State police arrest son in death of mother

MONMOUTH, Maine — State police charged a Monmouth man with murder Tuesday night in connection with the death of his 80-year-old mother, whose body was found inside her home Monday night.

Kenneth McDonald, 43, was charged at about 9:30 p.m. by detectives at the Winthrop Police Station where he had been brought for questioning during the afternoon, according to state police spokesman Stephen McCausland.

McCausland said Janice McDonald was found by relatives at about 5 p.m. Monday. The state’s medical examiner completed an autopsy Tuesday, but police were not disclosing how she died.

Police had been looking for Kenneth McDonald, who lived with his mother but went missing Monday. He was taken into custody by Cumberland County deputies at about 1 p.m. Tuesday on Bailey Island in Harpswell.

McDonald, who was taken to Kennebec County Jail in Augusta, is likely to make his first appearance in Kennebec Superior Court either Wednesday or Thursday, McCausland said.

What is up with all the people killing other people lately, it has never been this bad in Maine as it has been in the last few weeks. Pretty Scarey!!

killing anybody is sick but your mom what is this world coming too

This is a half-story. Why did he kill her? how did he kill her? What was his relationship with her previous to the killing?

How was the mother's health before her death?

To tysmom, Maine is one of the safest states in this Nation for non-acquaintance murder. . Murder by a stranger is almost a statistically insignificant number. and domestic violence has been this bad in Maine for a long time. Logan Marr, Asha Dickenson, Guariana Quinn, Ricky Letourneau, Taviell Kigas, etc

HarryHSnyderIII: Why would you think the mother's health prior to her being murdered has ANY relevance to this story? If she was terminally ill it would have been OK?

Ron--- maybe they had an arguement and she had a heart attack.... hang him! *eye roll*

Harry- the domestic assult in Maine surprises me... most women could take down their husbands in a bar brawl like they were nothing....

I'll bet he's the baby of the family and was spoiled rotten and always got his own way, never had consequences to pay, except this time.

tysmom it's probably because of the spoiled brats parents can't afford fix their brat kids problems anymore.

To HarryHSnyder III , This may only be half the story but the "Why" "How" and "What's" are irrelevant. There will be no answers acceptable for killing his mother regardless of her age, health or relationship status. Murder in self defence or protecting your family are acceptable but I dont think he was in any danger from his 80 year old mother.

Domestic violence is a fast-spreading plague.

spunky

Your OPINION is one of millions. My opinion differs somewhat, Please be aware that you are conversing with adults on this board. it is condescending and disrespectful to advance your moral theory as the only truth.

Have you ever cared for someone who has Alzheimer's? someone who is deep into senile dementia? Someone whom you love dearly but is is excruciating irreversible pain? Have you ever received instructions from a loved one BEFORE THE FACT?

It turns out that this case is nothing like that, but there are reasons to invite death, and anyone who believes otherwise must be exceedingly young.

vchapes I agree with you that Maine women are mostly capable. must be all these ladies from away being beat
