Finally an idea that is right. These so called exemptions by religious beliefs and naturlists should never be. These same ones who don't want the shots then want you to cover them when they get sick and even crippled. If they don't take the shot and get sick or otherwise then they fofeit all right to state aide. Sounds good to me and more shots to go around to the rastional people.

There is a matter of concern here, however, and this happens to be those people who will get a 'reaction' severe enough from this vaccine, depending on the number of shots given and the level of the serum. It has been noted, people have become very ill; some have died from receiving this vaccine. I'm speaking in world terms, not only in USA terms. Make sure you read the warnings concerning the serum you are receiving before you get any shot. I think the doctor or pharmacist or the public heal employees will have these particulars on-hand; I hope so. Or that it is widely published, anyway.

Our school did sent home a permission slip. It was for a seasonal flu vaccine. Not a swine flu vaccine. But I bet we don't see a second permission slip....

Yes, Harry; this is exactly my point. What your comment said makes further sense. My physician told me that it is best to await my 'seasonals' because this is a new serum being formulated. Wait, was his precautionary statement to me. I use this doctor to give me any State Department required inoculations (listed on my lengthy shot record reports from 1965 when I enlisted in the US Army through to this day) before I travel, if I need certain updates or new shots, that is.

It's not that I refuse to get the shot, but the doc just warned me to wait and see the tested results first. On my son's case, the state of California does make a mandate (but voluntary in receiving the shots) on preparing everyone for the coming flu seasons. What Baldacci is doing, is just following a US request for all governor's to follow.

But at my son's school, they sent home a letter, to be signed by each student's parent, guardian or family physician or military or government representing physician, that they will or will not participate in the state's mandatory request for all students to be duly inoculated at/on school property. No reasons are requested to be noted on the form for refusals. This particular letter outlines there are risks to be taken, as the serum's (plural) have not been widely-tested with proven and effective results as yet. So, there you go!

There are some things that people need to get right! One is that without reading the materials associated with the vaccinations you can't make a judgement and condemn the program. Two, NO ONE is going to be required to have the vaccination. It is a parental and personal choice. There will be authorizations and information available before anyone gets the vaccination and everyone will be asked a series of questions to determine if there is a medical reason not to have the vaccine. Three, there will be an authorization form for the H1N1 series as well as the seasonal flu. The seasonal flu vaccines have been given for years now! The only difference is that students are being included in the recommendations this year!! Same procedures and same forms with a parental authorization added for those under 18! The proclamation ONLY changes the liability for giving the vaccinations from the individual to the state!! If someone decides to sue because of a possible reaction would you be willing to expose yourself to the liability as an individual who had nothing to do with the vaccine or its manafacturing? NOBODY will be forced to have these and the purpose of the proclamation is to make it easier to get the vaccine and cheaper to the individual! Quit knocking things until you know the details! I personally don't plan to get the H1N1 vaccanation until its been around for a while either but I will get my regular seasonal flu shot like I have for the past 5 years and be happy to get it.

They can NOT give your child this vaccine without your consent. If they do that WILL set them up for a lawsuit. My children get the flu mist from our school but I have to sign a release form. We have done this for three years and our school is always one of the last schools to be affected by the seasonal flu. It was the teachers last year that got ill and our school had to be closed for two days because of lack of substitutes. Most of the kids were very healthy. I don't however believe I will consent to a swine flu vaccine, I don't believe it has had enough "research" done on it yet.

No one is FORCING anyone to take anything. Chill out people! If you don't sign the form, your child won't get the shot. People are so up in arms about this flu virus. The fact is that yes, probably many people will get sick and have to stay home for a few days. Will a few people get sick enough to die from it? Yes. Just like any other flu. The key things to remember here is to take precautions. If you have a fever, stay home. Wash your hands really well. This is no different than anything else, colds included. It is just the media hyping this flu. Sure we'll hear a lot of people coming down with it, but a lot of people get strep throat every year too. People aren't freaking out about that!

I'll bet that the Obama administration is going to play with the numbers to indicate that every person with a case of the sniffles has the swine flu and that every death not caused by obvious accident or murder will be attributed to swine flu. By the time they are done, all of us should be believing that if we only had Obamacare we all could be saved. Neither my son nor I will be getting this vaccine. It's being rushed way too quickly and that just makes me nervous. I'm not just going to blindly trust that since the government says so, it's ok to give to him. Swine flu is being hyped up by the media to create a panic and in the end, it's no worse than the regular flu.

Use common sense people - wash your hands frequently, don't cough into your hands because that transmits germs (use the crook of your elbow), use hand sanitizer, keep your hands away from your face and others'.

The one winter I got a flu vaccination I was sicker than I have ever been. No thanks, I'll pass. My daughter is 5 and has never had one and she's fine.

The seasonal flu vaccine is a "killed" virus - you cannot get sick from it. However, I haven't seen enough research on the swine flu vaccine to be any where near comfortable with that one.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today announced it has issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) that allows a 2009 H1N1 influenza virus test to be used to detect the virus in troops serving overseas.

The EUA allows the U.S. Department of Defense to distribute the H1N1 test to its qualified laboratories that have the required equipment and trained personnel to perform the test and interpret its results. An EUA authorizes the use of unapproved medical products or unapproved uses of approved medical products during a declared public health emergency.

“The FDA worked quickly with the Defense Department to authorize the use of this test to better protect our troops. The test will aid in more rapid diagnosis of 2009 H1N1 influenza infections so that deployed troops can quickly begin appropriate medical treatment,” said Commissioner of Food and Drugs Margaret A. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) developed the test, which is called the CDC swH1N1 (swine) Influenza Real-Time RT-PCR.

Under this new EUA, the Defense Department’s Joint Biological Agent Identification and Diagnostic System (JBAIDS) can be used to run the CDC’s test. The FDA previously cleared other assays for use on the JBAIDS beginning in 2005.

The degree of skepticism found in these responses speaks volumes regarding the perceived safety of the new H1N1 vaccine, as well as that of other so-called preventative vaccines being "sold" to the American public. At last look, this vaccine was reported to have undergone less testing than the Gardasil HPV vaccine, which has also divided the medical community due to a close association with a number of serious blood clotting issues and deaths. Also adding to the confusion is that the possibility is left open for the use of an adjuvant (a questionable enhancing additive) in the flu vaccines.

Although the use of these vaccines is currently voluntary, it is frightening that Gardasil's developer (MERCK) had suggested that governments make vaccination with Gardasil mandatory for school attendance! Are we also headed for a government-mandated H1N1 vaccination program based on an elevated H1N1 fear? This is a real concern given the enhanced executive order options now operative within the "Patriot Act" provisions. My children came home from school with a permission slip regarding the shot. No one is being forced to have it. And for the record, we haven't signed the slip and sent it back yet, because we want to investigate it further, including consulting our childrens own doctor. My kids and I will get our seasonal flu vaccines at our Dr.'s offices, just like every year. As far as the swine flu, I'll wait and talk to our pediatrician's infectious disease specialist and see what he has to say. While I don't want my kids or myself to get sick, I'm not anxious to be in the first wave of people to receive these vaccines, either.

What are the symptoms of H1N1 Influenza virus? I would like to see them listed here for the readers. On another note, for a nursing prerequisite at a community college, I wrote a paper on the common cold. And then, I studied Microbiology, and it was most interesting after swabbing bathroom surfaces to find that the inner palm of the hand carried more germs that surfaces that we swabbed in the bathroom. That is not to say that the bathroom is not a breeding ground for germs. It was the conclusion of my essay that, "Handwashing is the single most effective way to prevent the transmission of germs." Also, when I worked in the school system, there were many occasions that the bathrooms were not properly stocked with soap, towels, etc. One teacher that I worked with diiscouraged the use of hand sanitizer stating that it, "removed more of the normal flora, than it did the germs." I could not believe it. Little children place their hands in many places throughout the day, as well as children of all ages. Keeping in mind that handwashing is the single most effective way to prevent the transmission of germs. We need to wash our hands more, plain and simple.

this has nothing to do with the this story,but let me tell you what happend to my son this weak,a few weaks ago my son was playing on a swing at 13th street park in bangor his leg slipped threw the little round things climbing up the swing,his leg hit a bolt that was sticking out(that should'nt of been) well on 8/29th/2009 i took him to the e.r. cuz he had a leg infection from the cut that bolt did to his leg-he got admitted in cuz he had staph infection in that cut-later tha nite we found out he also had blood poisoning from that cut and the staph infection plus he had another small infection in the same cut( my son had a few srcapes ect that weak on other parts of his body but the only one that got infected was the cut he got from the slide,)i told the city of this and feel they should fix the bolt and clean that slide(sterileize it) before another kid gets hurt and ends up in the hospital with the same thing my son had-yesterday my son got discharged but that morning another boy playing at that park got admitted in for staph infection on his arm) i don't know if had blood poisoning as well,( my theory is) at some point a kid playing on that slide cut himself on that bolt a long time ago or ect..... left the bacteria there and if other kids cut themselves on it will contract the bacteria--- staph is nothing to mess around with and can be deadily-i found out with my son just how serious it is and can lead into blood poisoning(which if not treated soon will kill you) my son was in the icu for almost a weak cuz he got blood poisoning from staph.

Good health habits are one's first line of defense. Beyond that, most well balanced reports from doctors indicate that H1N1 has no particular symtomatic anomalies that would differentiate it from other flu viruses. "Underlying medical conditions" that are commonly referenced will complicate any type of disease. Currently, the mortality figures and the degree of propagation of H1N1 approximates that of "normal" seasonl flu. Balanced reporting, especially from governmental sources and the media, is certainly lacking on this "pandemic." The hype is way over the top, and should raise a red flag concerning the agenda of governments, pharmaceutical companies, and their agents. The caution people have regarding H1N1 vaccinations is justified in my view. Most of the troubling information can be found on the U.S. government's own website - www.flu.gov. How is it that pregnant women are one group singled out for an unproven H1N1 vaccination when they and their child are the most precious and sensitive to foreign substances. This is illogical from a common-sense medical standpoint. On another level, the recent upgrade to a level 6 pandemic by the WHO (ramped up in a matter of days) also provides for the introduction of "mitigation efforts" including madated vaccinations and troubling martial law conditions now provided by Patriot Acts I, II, and III. As one who has their seasonal flu shot each year, I will take a sabbatical on all flu vaccinations.

The company that released contaminated flu virus material from a plant in Austria confirmed Friday that the experimental product contained live H5N1 avian flu viruses.

Craziness!!!! A new study presented in March of 2009 at the 105th International Conference of the American Thoracic Society in San Diego shows that flu shots in kids actually increases the chances of ending up in the hospital. If you like spending time in the hospital with a sick kids then line right up for those shots!!

"To see if the vaccine actually reduced the number of hospitalizations for all children, especially those with asthma, over eight consecutive flu seasons, Dr. Joshi and his research team conducted a cohort study of 263 children. All the youngsters had been evaluated at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota between the ages of six months to 18 years and each had had laboratory-confirmed flu between 1996 to 2006. The scientists documented which of the children had been vaccinated against the flu, and those that had not received the flu jab.
