Man in traffic accident arrested an hour later

BANGOR, Maine — A Gouldsboro man was arrested Tuesday after police found prescription drugs in his possession less than an hour after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Hammond Street.

George Tedesco, 42, initially was charged with possession of an OxyContin pill and for violating the conditions of his bail from a previous arrest for operating under the influence of an intoxicant, according to Bangor police Officer Tim Shaw.

After his arrest, Tedesco was taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he was being held pending a court appearance today, Shaw said.

Shaw said the incident remained under investigation and additional charges might be forthcoming.

According to Shaw, the episode that led to Tedesco’s arrest began shortly after 5 p.m. with a motor vehicle accident near the 3rd District Court building on Hammond Street. After he provided the other driver with his name and telephone number, Tedesco allegedly became nervous and left the scene.

Shortly afterward, the other driver called police because of an accident-related injury, Shaw said. The officer said that when he called Tedesco to determine his location, Tedesco said his vehicle was broken down on Interstate 395.

About that time, state police Trooper Darren Vittum, who was aware that Bangor police were attempting to locate Tedesco, saw the Gouldsboro man’s 2000 Mercury Mountaineer pulled over on I-395. Vittum stopped and held Tedesco until Shaw arrived.

Shaw said Tedesco appeared nervous while being questioned.

A search of Tedesco turned up a Valium pill for which he had no prescription. A search of the back seat of the SUV turned up an OxyContin pill and five more Valiums. Shaw said Tedesco said the pills in the SUV belonged to a friend to whom he had given a ride.

Bad hair day.

This is amusing. I was traveling on 395 towards 95 when I saw this man in front of his SUV.

Nobody was with him at this time but I did notice he had some pretty extensive damage to the front end of his SUV.

An unknown State Trooper with a cruiser that lacked a light bar had someone pulled over less than two miles past him. I did not pay much attention to the car the State Trooper had stopped but the man that was arrested caught my attention as his SUV clearly had front end damage and he was stopped on the shoulder.

It was around 5:40 PM when I passed by him but I did see him standing in front of his SUV. The front end damage was very obvious and I was wondering what he ran into.

I now know.

Bad Hair Day? What a comment!! My comment is to all the people who are dependent on prescription drugs, drug abuse is a selifsh act, there are others who suffer in the midst of your self medication.

My next comment is to the DEALERS of these drugs..... You are the ones responsible for the lies, deception, theft, financial hardships brought on the families of your CLIENTS, and deaths of people that don't have the courage to deal with reality! I am assuming the dealers are not educated enough to sapport themselves with a respectful full time job. I pitty you.

Kirs10 you really don't have a clue about drug abuse do you? Yeah it is partially the dealers fault but if someone is addicted to sex are you going to blame the porn industry c'mon now use your head. When someones takes drugs and are addicted to them yeah it might be selfish but people don't care. Also I think it is funny when you write uneducated then you type sapport. hahaha

He must have been on his way home from work right? I bet he bought the pills with his own money right? My husband wishes these pill poppers would drop dead, I try to calm him about it but our neighbor (who we support) wheels and deals, camper, Harley, three cars. Yeah, we watch him before we go to work everyday.

Here we go...

Do you need a tissue? Doctor yet? I think that everyone's entitled to an opinion on here and we all have to listen to your expertise BS because you are the addiction specialist right? Let's hear it..............drum roll please. Get your state check yet vhapes?

What are you talking about realist?

Kirs10 said "I am assuming the dealers are not educated enough to sapport themselves with a respectful full time job. I pitty you. "... I'm assuming the dealers are educated enough since they make enough to support themselves off another persons addiction. There has to be some smarts behind the process, just no morale.

Realist- I'll never understand what your issue is and why you feel the need rag on me every chance you get. Really, I never will. Am I on here ragging on you? No, I'm not. I guess I have just a smidge more pride. Maybe not, maybe I just don't care what you really think of me, since everyone is entitled to their opinion. I haven't said anything about anyones opinion or even stated my opinion until NOW. So why did you feel the need to write a comment like that?

Because four minutes after I posted you wrote, here we go..... There may be people sick and tired of reading what you write on hear as well, but you know what, they don't have to read it. Oh and yes you have pride, much more than me. And oh yeah, drug dealers are really smart, yeah almost forgot that one. You've gotta be smart to be a sleaze bag! LOL!

That wasn't directed at you. Sorry you seemed to think it was. You missed my point about the education part by miles. Oh well.

I saw this going on. I had ran out to my parents Hammond Street restaurant around 5:45 to get dinner and on my way home they were reading him his rights and cuffing and stuffing him. Good place for pill poppers.. jail and rehab.

Kris, unfortunately real life addiction isnt like what you watch on TV. I've read some OTT comments on here regarding addiction, but yours certainly wins 1st prize.

And realist, you spy on your neighbors? Good lord. Get a life.

Thats OK vchapes, I sapport you 100% *wink*

The irony on here is almost too much sometimes, huh.

I couldn't agree with you more 'vchapes', and you any less 'realist'. First of all, who says a drug dealer cannot be smart?? It was well put vchapes, smart with no morals. Some of them are extremely intelligent! Entrepeneurs that unfortunetly sell illegal and harmful things. I don't agree with drug dealing, but I think it's ridiculous to say they can't be smart. And not all dealers use! And not all users start so illegally! If you want to throw some blame out for people getting hooked, give some to pharm. companies and doctors that are too quick to write a script! So many people get hooked this way and turn to the black market when it runs out. But it's a disease in itself. I am willing to bet, 'realist', that you have vices as well. Your lucky if it's food instead of drugs. But to say all users/dealers are bad horrible people is just so far from reality, maybe you need a new name. Yes, some are terrible, but some are very unlucky good people. But, these are wasted words I know. People with your mentality are too closed minded to even have a decent debate, which has been proven with how you attack others on here! So back at you! Get a life! Go spy on your neighbor or have your husband shoot that dirty-dirty drug user!

And no 'realist', I don't collect a check from the state. I make my money, pay my taxes and help support these people the same as you.

wow, didnt take long for this articles comments to turn into 7th grade mud slinging.....

i'll get the tissues and break out the "free hug" booth...

Thank you northern1. That's what i meant. When people turn to the streets after the doctor cuts them off.... where are those drugs coming from? A different doctor who has yet to cut someone off... Can't blame just the doctors though. They can't always tell when someone is just looking for drugs. They have to give each person the same treatment. If they know someone is using or selling, then yes. Most offices have the patient sign a narcotic agreement which allows the doctor to do random pill counts or random urine screening. That's never fun either! I've heard some of the wildest stories from people about why their urine is dirty or why they are 8 pills short of what they should be... This is something that will never be controlled, there will always be a drug problem unless they stop prescribing narcotics. I've heard they were taking hydrocodone off the market... that ought to create more drug problems....
