WISCASSET, Maine — A man accused of stabbing a Waldoboro woman to death this spring has been charged with attempting to sneak oxycodone pills into jail by swallowing them in a deflated balloon.

Earl “Buddy” Bieler, 25, of Waldoboro, an inmate at Two Bridges Jail in Wiscasset, was charged Monday with trafficking in prison contraband, along with inmate Jeffrey Richards, 43, of Dresden and Faylene Bronn, 45, of Litchfield.

James Pease, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency supervisor, said Tuesday that over the course of joint investigations with Two Bridges Jail, officials recently uncovered an apparent drug smuggling plot.

“We were aware that they were going to do it, and we had guys there working that evening,” Pease said. “We believe this is the first attempt.”

According to Pease, Bronn brought four 15-milligram oxycodone pills with her Saturday, hidden in a deflated balloon, as she visited Bieler. Bronn is related to Richards, who was in jail for a probation violation, Pease said.

“Richards was the one who made the initial contact and spearheaded them to organize enough to attempt to do it,” he said.

The plan apparently was for her to drop the balloon on the ground during the visit and for Bieler to pick it up and swallow it, according to a report from Stephen McCausland, spokesman for Maine Department of Public Safety.

“[Drug trafficking] is a fairly ongoing thing in all of the jails,” Pease said. “It’s kind of like fighting the tides. A large percentage of [inmates] are drug addicts.”

Bieler and Corina Durkee, also of Waldoboro, were charged by the state with intentional or knowing murder, attempted murder and burglary after the April 20 attack, which left Rachel Grindal stabbed to death and another woman, Tracey Neild, critically injured.

Under the legal system here in Maine, if convicted on both charges he will probably get sentenced to 2-4 years for the murder and 25-40 years on the drug charges. I guess whatever puts him in the slammer for a long enough time, that is what really matters.

Duh, I think I'll take some Oxycodone to the jail. What is wrong with our society? 45 years old and nothing else to do but deal drugs AT A JAIL? I hope she serves some time.

And somebody please tell me again about the great things that our prisoners do to help "rform" these low-lifes. Thanks.

nice salad bowl haircut!

How about a picture of the lovely and talented Faylene Bronn 45 of Litchfield?

Freight trains in Aroostook County paint her image on the front of the locamotives to scare moose off the tracks.

System sucks.. how about 25-40 years on drug charge, and needle in the arm for the murder.

And more for-profit prisons too!

We just need more profits for corporations to lock up society's unwanted.

For profit-prisons is the answer! Longer prison sentences for drug users, and more for-profit prisons!

The corporations profit off peoples addiction to their Rx narcotics,

then the corporations profit when they put the people addicted to their Rx narcotic into their for-profit prisons.

Pretty sweet system I'd say, All that tax money being wasted fighting the drug war when it could have been going into corporate coffers.

Ok here's the plan, grab whatever drugs you can and hide them in a balloon....and then just drop it and Ill pick it up. I bet he's Jones'n so bad right now! I mean if you need drugs so bad that you try to get them into a jail? He's all kinds of messed up, then again he's got nothing to lose.

Beavis....ROFLMFAO!!!

Ok wheres the pic of this moose scaring lady anyway?

We might want to think about more a bigger prisons. What do you all think about that????

For profit prisons will be full of innocent people. They will hire lots of lobbyists and give judges kick-backs for sending in more customers. That is the worst idea in human history. Four pills in prison! Let's make a mountain out of a mole-hill. I guess people will do anything if they have no will power and self-control and get addicted and have no access to treatment in jail. This guy should still get life in prison with no questions asked but I'm sure a judge won't see it that way. It will be 5 for the murder and 20 for the drugs as someone else posted.

can u say $#cktard.......you are a loser.....

How about a cake with a file in the middle and a nice creamy layer of oxycontin frosting on the outside.

Where can i get one of those beavis? Do you make them to order??

They all need a forced OD! Let 'em get the drugs, but lace them all with arsnic or something beforehand. And then they can do all their drugs in jail at their own risk and take their health care and dental away too. Or better yet, send folks like this to Gitmo! Sometimes torture is the right thing!
