Christian lobby leader Heath quits for Africa mission

Michael Heath

AUGUSTA, Maine — The head of the state’s conservative Christian lobbying group has stepped down after nearly 20 years with the Maine Family Policy Council, formerly the Christian Civic League of Maine.

Michael Heath, 48, of China resigned Monday to do consulting work. He said Tuesday that his first project would manufacture and distribute solar cookers in Africa.

Heath said he decided to quit after returning from a two-week trip earlier this month to the United Republic of Tanzania in central East Africa on the Indian Ocean. He accompanied his wife, Polly Heath. A Christian singer, she was invited to perform there two years ago when the couple visited neighboring Kenya.

“I’m 48 and approaching my midlife crisis,” he said in phone interview Tuesday. “I feel it’s time to do something else. I’m excited about the opportunities that are presenting themselves for consulting in board development, fundraising and other aspects of networking. People in Africa are facing a whole different set of things unrelated to the very important and critical issues I’ve worked on here.”

Heath’s decision to work on issues of poverty, sustainability and self-sufficiency in the Third World rather than on social issues at home is part of a growing trend among evangelicals. He said he would be working with Banga kwa Banga, which means Shoulder to Shoulder in Swahili.

“The board accepted Heath’s resignation yesterday during a meeting at the league headquarters building in Augusta,” Mike Hein, administrator for the organization, said Tuesday in an e-mail sent to reporters. “They expressed unanimous and strong support for [him]. Heath pledged his full support to the league.”

A replacement has not been chosen, according to the e-mail.

“No stranger to controversy, Heath is often described as a ‘lightning rod,’” Hein said in the e-mail.

Heath was credited by his adversaries with having stopped a casino from being built in Calais, according to the e-mail. He went on to tackle contentious social issues, Hein said, including opposition to adding sexual orientation to the Maine Human Rights Act and, most recently, same-sex marriage.

“He forced issues into public discussion that might not have been discussed otherwise,” the Rev. Bob Emrich, head of the Maine Jeremiah Project, said of Heath’s legacy. “He forced us to confront and discuss issues that needed to be discussed from gambling to pro-life to the attorney general’s civil rights teams to domestic partnerships to same-sex marriage.”

Emrich, 58, of Palmyra is working on the campaign to repeal Maine’s same-sex marriage law. Mainers will vote Nov. 3 on the issue.

Heath said that he did not believe he would be expressing his faith any differently in his new job than he has in the past.

“I see it all as equally important and all part of being a Christian,” he said. “The difference will be when I step into culture and politics [in the new job] there will be less resistance [to what I’m doing].”

The Christian Civic League of Maine was formed in 1897.

Heath began working for the group in October 1989 as the administrative assistant. On Jan. 1, 1994, he was appointed executive director. He also oversaw the league’s transformation last year into the Maine Family Policy Council.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity my ministry [with the council] presented for growth in my faith convictions and in so many other ways,” Heath said.

As for his reputation as a lightning rod, Heath referred to an e-mail he received from a friend Tuesday — “‘Lightning rods don’t melt,’” he said.

Why did it take so long to get rid of this guy. He is mean, nasty and pure evil.

Great News! Hallelujah!!

Jack B.!

Yeah but I wonder what he's really up to. Private consultant...?

"Keep you friends close but your enemies closer"

Ah, the CCL. I remember a few years ago when the Governor's spokesman called them "a bunch of cuckoo clocks" and the best they could come up with for a riposte was to send him a cuckoo clock. I don't know what he did with it; I'd have put it on my office wall as a sort of trophy of honor.

WillaimDS, your intentions are deceptiive. You will NEVER win the arguement with only 8-10 different identities in this format. Admit it.....you're losing the battle. Vote "Yes" on Question 1.

Heath's anti-gay campaigns all flopped, most particularly as to fundraising. Remember his electioneering case all the way to the US Supreme Court, which also flopped?

See http://www.democracy21.org/index.asp?Type=B_PR&SEC=%7B6A24ACC9-D069-4D3F-A689-9608BF2EE165%7D for Memorandum on Mootness in Christian Civic League vs. Federal Election Commission and Sen. John McCain.

Everything about Mike Heath and the League is moot. Guess Heath's failures to raised fear-based funds finally surpassed limited and fake "Conservative" appeal.

Mr Heath, I had the pleasure to meet you and your wife a couple of times. I want to thank you for your courage, tenacity and foresight in fighting for the rights of the unborn and standing up amid such opposition from the homosexuals and their bent on perverting our society. Here's wishing you well on your new adventure to Africa. They are a great and humble people.

I'm not sure I would attribute the virtyue of "foresight" to someone who's made it his life's work to oppose the forward progress of society's evolution. Or any other sort of evolution, for that matter. That seems more like it embodies a certain degree of devotion to hindsight.

Heath knew full well years ago that this perversion would be rampant in our country if not stopped from the beginning. He nailed it back then when he said it was marriage was the Holy Grail they were after and would not stop till they achieved it. Lo and behold here we are today.

He's probably going to go to Africa to tell the Africans that condoms are evil....

Well done Mike Heath. Can't blame you for getting tired of the relentless battering from the homosexuals and baby-killers. You have shown great courage and fortitude. The people of Africa will be better off for it. Unfortunately, Maine will not as they succumb to the Sodomites and baby-killers, along with the mobs that will turn Maine into Las Vegas East. So different than the Maine of my younger days.

God Bless you.

Oh a mission to Africa, how noble. If you believe that I've got a nice bridge in Brooklyn for sale.

MaineSurvivor2,

Are you serious? "8-10 different identities in this format"

You sound like the chicken detectives. MDI moonbat has identified 5 or 6 different screen names as me. It's laughable.

Mr. Heath - thank you for all your hard work. May God richly bless your ministry in Africa. Maine is a better place because of you and I pray another leader such as yourselve can be found to head up the Christian Civic League - God bless you and your family.

Maine voters should be aware that The Christian Civic League paid Michael Heath well to be their mouth piece.

He was paid $75,000 in compensation for 2008 according to the form 990 filed by the Christian Civic League with the IRS.

$74,770 plus $8,878 benefits in 2007

$70,000 plus $12,664 benefits in 2006

Most fair minded Mainers won't miss him.

Much as it pains me, must agree with those who think this fellow is an intolerant wingnut. Beelzebub and all his hellish minions have nothing on this bible thumping zealot. Having worked extensively in Africa, can't help but think that unless Heath can re-introduce DDT for mosquito control, his ministry will cause more misery than malaria.

Good luck to him, I wish him well and hopes he helps alot of people build solar cookers in Africa. I also hope it teaches him some humility and how to walk in another mans shoes.

He's got more than a "mid-life crisis"........more like an identity crisis. ;)

Is Africa as far away as he can get? I hope so! Good riddance!

Yes, indeed, fHt, here we are today. The sun still comes up in the morning and goes down at night. Air is still about 78% nitrogen. A day is still about 86,400 seconds long. Children still play with puppies and songbirds persist. And those of us who do not care to indulge in mattress calisthenics with members of the same sex have not - or at least I hadn't, the last time I checked - been held at gunpoint and required to sample the delights of the lifestyle.

In short, the world has failed to end.

And so much for the apocalyptic vision of a world where gay people can marry. Rampant perversion indeed. Grow up and face the twenty-first century, people. Your OWN GOD told you to live and let live. Consider listening to him if you're such true believers.

wspahn: Most people are doing just fine as you state. Oh, there is hunger and poverty and suffering as there as always been, but there are also many who are trying to alleviate that.....and most people are resilient and hang onto faith and hope even in the face of hard times. No, the world is going on just as it always had. There have always been the doom and gloomers talking about the imminent end of the world. (it is the same thing, over and over.)

The State of Maine was richly blessed with the likes of Michael Heath. May an equally selfless person take his place, albeit the shoe size is enormous? Might this be a sign that Mike’s battles in Maine are already fought and won? I think so.

Though I have issues with Mr. Heath and his deceptive tactics (original wording of the initiative he didn't get enough signatures for last year but extended to Nov. 21, 2009), he certainly was persistent. I am glad that his son is arriving/arrived home safely from his tour in the Middle-East. I am a bit confused by some comments here that he will be "ministering" in Africa - I didn't read anything like that here. Good luck and Godspeed in your new endeavor.

Jack B.

It will be a sad day for many of you when you find the truth--but it will then be too late.

Good riddance!!! Now if only the rest of the fundamentalist right wing people in this state would join him....

he is just looking for a place where fear rules the day education is short and superstitution runs rampant. Answer Africa and Houlton Maine. Ol mike will join with the bigots of the Angelican church while makeing money on his stoves. Reme, ber Pat Robertson with hs Gold mining operation? I remember seeing mike in Houlton scurring in and out of the church to get the hate thing going. He looked right at home in Houlton where a bunch of idots seemed to be his family. I wonder will he now show a new picture of himself praying at Mt Kilemojaro? Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Don't let the door hit you in the butt on your way out hhhahahha

I hope he's gong to an area with cannibals.

free2bee wishing you godspeed is like judas kissing Jesus.

augustagoverned... then they would get a taste of Christianity, that would be good

Thank you for your "kind" words forHIM.

I was sincere in my comments and I know you are too.

Jack B.

Bale mother bale!! I will swap one cause for another, Just like being on a sinking ship. Instead of going down with it, jump ship and move on to another cause....Isn't that a good "Christian" attitude? So much passion, so little time? (NOT) Give me your dirty filthy rotten money, and I will use it for the hate that I can spread around. (NOT). I agree about time for the one of the biggest hypocrites to finally move else where....now lets get rid of the other hate mongers.!!!

The UN better send in troops to protect the women and young girls.

The UN better send in troops to protect the women and young girls.

everyone (for him today) must have forgot that Judas was chosen to do the deed. Judas was a man compared to the other 11 cowards and doubters. Ya see she don't read. Maybe mike is looking for a faithful to join him. They would lok good in a pot together. Oh waite why wish that meal on anyone. INDEGESTION.......................

Midlife crisi-SURE!More like fleeing from an accounting scandal or like all the Catholic diddlers. He would be in a LONG lone of those creatures. What a happy day for Maine and all America.Don't come back.

sorry-*line

Petty Officer 3rd Class Joseph Rocha who was abused and harassed by his officers because he didn’t visit prostitutes and thus must be gay.

From Stars and Stripes: http://www.stripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=64564

"According to documents released by Youth Radio this week, Navy investigators found dozens of hazing incidents over a two-year span at the Military Working Dog unit in Naval Support Activity-Bahrain. At one point, the documents show, Rocha was hog-tied, fed dog food and tossed into a dog kennel full of feces. Commanders also openly questioned his sexuality and forced him to simulate oral sex on other men."

"The news organization received heavily redacted copies of the Navy’s investigation and findings into the incident, but naval officials at the Pentagon said they could not comment on details of the case. Calls to Navy Region Europe officials, who oversaw the Bahrain unit, were not returned.

According to the reports, commanders routinely abused and insulted subordinate sailors from 2004 to 2006, until investigators began looking into the charges. They found at least 93 incidents of abuse, but naval officials would not comment on any disciplinary action.

In several cases, male sailors were forced to simulate gay sex acts on other men, both during public training sessions and as punishment for mistakes. In one instance, two women in the division were handcuffed to a bed and forced to imitate lesbian sex while other sailors videotaped them."

This is how our military treats fellow soldiers? Nice. I wonder if soldiers who identify asChristian face this same treatment if they don't visit prostitutes?

Jack B.

Good luck in Africa, you'll fit right in in Nigeria.

Good riddance to one of the creepiest people to ever get the spotlight in Maine.

Why or Who would want to hire this idiot as a consultant needs to seek medical help

forHIMtoday...someone is sincere and you compare him to Judas?! You are doing more to push people away from Christianity with comments like this then you could possibly know or understand.

Bpositive - not so positive today are we?? Why is it that people who are hired to head up organizations should not be paid? They have families that they need to feed too. The Christian Civic League is not funded through tax payers money or any type of government money- it is funded by Christians who see a need for such a Legue here in Maine - I am proud to be a supporter of the Christian Civic League - I wish the employess could be paid more - Maine is a hard state for such a legue to exist in and Mr. Heath has been nothing but battered and harassed by all you so called "tolerant" people.

free2bee: Just wanted to commend you for the way you

address folks here. It is very easy to get fired up and be

hateful, but you always (that I have seen) keep a level

head and are respectful. As you commended another

poster earlier, you deserve the same. We're continuing

to remember Jacob.

RE: 7:41 Idiotman, You are crude and ignorant...

Mr. Heath thank you for your many years of faithful service to the conservative issues in the state of Maine….Your work on bringing morality and immorality to the table for discussion has never been as important as in the last several years and you have helped to lay the foundation for these types of discussions to continue into the future….You have remained faithful to the values and beliefs that many hold to in every day life and I am confident that your experiences and gained wisdom will go far in your new endeavors in Africa….I wish you and your wife the best as you move onto new challenges and may you be found as faithful in your work helping others in another country as you were working the issues of morality and conservatism in the state of Maine…..May God Go With You and Bless You….

Good riddance to very bad rubbish!!!

“The difference will be when I step into culture and politics [in the new job] there will be less resistance [to what I’m doing].”

Ah... tis music to mine ears! "Less resistance"? Good job citizens of Maine!!!

This is a very happy day indeed and a day of victory for my good neighbors! A toast to you all!

I hope that Michael Heath goes to Africa on a one way ticket.

ted I'm a little confused by your 8:51 "Good job citizens of Maine!!!"?

This is a decision that Mike made, he wasn't ousted...I wish he and

Polly nothing but the best on their next adventure, May blessings

follow where ever they go.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

You won't be missed! Your prejudice will put you in a very hot place!

HRH, his quote “The difference will be when I step into culture and politics [in the new job] there will be less resistance [to what I’m doing].”

The simple fact that he mentions the resistance he faced is wonderful. Magical. Incredibly pleasing to mine ears. I think Mainers have done a wonderful job with said resistance.

And for that, I toast them!

Good riddance. Now we need to work on deporting Jonette Christian of 'Mainers for Sensible Immigration Policy'.

There is a GOD! As I look upon this I am reminded about relocating a pediphile to another flock. My prayers go out to those unsuspecting people. He is going to have a field day.

Greeks, Persians, Romans were all progressive socialists as well and all their evolving societies crumbled with the acceptance of homosexuallity and infanticide. Mike thank you for your willingness to take the abuse from the intolerant narrow minded church of homosexuallity.

"Greeks, Persians, Romans were all progressive socialists as well and all their evolving societies crumbled with the acceptance of homosexuallity and infanticide"

Good grief... You think the fall of these civilizations was brought about by homosexuality? You're showing the limits of your history education, TurkeyTalker. That's freaking hysterical.

HRH it is quite obvious that Michael Heath was very effective in his leadership against the ongoing battle between morality & immorality.....I wonder how many of these making ignorant and hateful comments have ever meet this man and his wife...it was called the "Christian Civic League" for a reason and Michael held forth the values of that organization each and every day....it is too bad that Mr Heath's passion and commitment will be lost but hoping and praying that another with the same zeal and faithfulness will step up to take on the good fight....

I agree with you PabMainer. Mike and his group fought long

and hard. They did an awesome job. I have faith that the

Lord will fill his shoes with some one just as cabable of

standing up for what's right.

ted, I only hope that you are as proud of yourself on

judgement day...

Teddy, what is freaking hysterical is that you fail to see any corolation at all between behavior and consequence. My history is just fine thanks, but I know, just because I might have a different opinion, that obviously means that I must be a red neck idiot. Isn't that the playbook of the "illuminated" liberal, when someone dares disagree, rebuke, ridicule, and cry discrimination!

It's not opinion TurkeyTalker... The idea that these civilizations fell due to homosexuality cannot be verified or supported: it has no basis in historical fact. It's as silly as saying Hurricane Katrina was god's wrath against New Orleans.

Dunno about no playbook of an "illuminated liberal" as I've never voted for a liberal politician before (well, unless you view Ron Paul as liberal: and I had to write him in), and consider myself a fiscal conservative. All I know is the concept that those societies fell due to homosexuality cannot be supported by fact.

And ted, resistance just makes you fight harder...The fact that

so many of you are glad he's leaving is testimony to how hard

he fought.

Ted, if you are any student of history at all you should know that all of these societies were progressive in their sexuallity, and in particular homosexuallity. They also promoted child sacrifice in the name of religion, it helped take care of the nasty temple prostitution pregnancy problems. So now we are progressive in our enlightened views of sexuallity, and we say there are no boundaries! We are free to be sexual in any way we want. So now 1/3 sexually active teens has an STD, rates are a little higher for the gay community. We encourage abortion and force citicens to fund some of them through taxes, for all of the women who have gotten knocked up, at the "temple of social progression". When right becomes wrong, and wrong becomes right, and truth is subjective to all, then might will make right, and all will fall!

Best news I've read in a long time.

VOTE NO ON ONE

Ted you must be some kind of religious zealot, because I haven't mentioned God once! Of course there were other factors. I don't buy into the religion of Global Climate change being the fault of the evil American consumer. Too simplistic! I don't buy into the "I must be a racist because I disagree with President Obama". Too contrite. I don't buy into the "I am discriminated against if I cannot claim to be married, even if it defies the definition of marriage". Too repugnant. It's not equality that is being sought, it is acceptability. Ted, you may not know everything, I know that is hard to hear. Be careful out there!

TurkeyTalker there are many theories why those civiliazations failed. Yours is but one theory among many why these civilizations failed. Here are three other theories.

1) Many historians speculate that the rapid growth of the Roman empire over a relatively short period of time and the economic inflation that followed could have contributed substantially to the empire's decay.

2) The fall of the Persian Empire seems to have been brought about by power grabs and blood lust. Murder of half brothers,etc...seems to be what most historians believe began the down fall which was completed when it was invaded and conquered by Alexander the Great in 330 BC.

3) The fall of Ancient Greece well, ancient Greece was made up of several different city states which never truly unified around a central government. This lead to disunity and what some might say "easy pickings" for other countries with expansion in mind.

PabMainer - your comment regarding this idiot is certainly as far as far of can be - You must be thinking about someone else - I'll look forward to you recanting your positive comment to one that really fits the sho here..

Looking at all the comments here I would say that out 68 so far - 66 say he's an idiot

His first mission will be to convert African's to Christianity so he can cure them of their blackness.

jd you watch too much TV. I believe you were the same one that made the claim that the demon possessed man Jesus dealt with in the bible was nothing more than someone having a seizure. If only Jesus was as enlightened as you. Better yet, bet Jesus wishes He had the history channel to consult back then.

you're right, all of the contributing factors to the fall of Rome were the manifestation of divine retribution.

/Fred Phelps logic.

"I am discriminated against if I cannot claim to be married, even if it defies the definition of marriage".

1. It is discrimination under the 14th amendment to the Constitution.

2. It does not defy the definition of marriage: that definition is changing depending on your source. The world moves along...

3. Don't give a damn about acceptability. Not something I've ever had to work for. I'm just looking for equal treatment under the government I pay taxes to.

4. Never indicated I did know everything.

I will be careful... you do the same.

Archeology has proven that ancient cultures were obsessed with lust not much different from what's going on today. Morality gone amuck has taken down civilizations. How blind can people be to not see the absolute perversion of homosexuality and what its doing to us. Were going down in flames people. The time is past to say enough and stop letting misplaced lust drive us down this immoral road.

free2bee: Hope all is well.....and yes I agree with another poster, you are always very civil and decent to all......you certainly deserve back the same.

forHIMtoday...nope not me...sorry to disappoint you.

"How blind can people be to not see the absolute perversion of homosexuality and what its doing to us."

Once again, offering opinion as fact.

Down in flames? There's that difference again. It appears to be YOU living in darkness, 4Him... I think we're living in a wonderful, exciting time and I'd trade it for nothing. This world, this nation, is full of light: full of good people: an amazing place to be. I'd say we're more soaring for greater heights than going down in flames. And if it continues, things will only get better.

full of light...thats a bit of a stretch. but then again i'm a natural pessimist. things are starting to bounce back from the last 8 years, but wonderful is a stretch...

Know matter what you do 4him, some won't listen

and will be lost

Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

Rom 1:19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.

Rom 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

Rom 1:21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Rom 1:22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,

I'd say good riddance for this man who spent his life hating those he decided weren't worthy of his God's love, but I'm sure that he will 1) Just spread his message of hate and intolerance elsewhere and 2) Hypocrite hate mongers like againstHIMtoday will just take his place.

Please take the Maine Bigotry Council with you.

forHimtoday,

Are you taking your meds today. Obviously you have real problems dealing with your sexuality. Yes ancient cultures were obsessed with lust because that is human nature. Rejecting it is a mental illness. The more sex the better.

that may not be a fair assessment. disregard for thought and staunch, unquestioning belief in a 'value system' may not be a mental illness. a large percentage of evangelicals "find christ" below the age of 14. i'm assuming this is because its easier to brainwash children.

kind of standing up, but in a backhanded way...but i'm not sure its entirely her fault.

TurkeyTalker,

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aJ6jnKWHrQgI

See... no homos anywhere!

;-)

Hells bells, forHIM, at least we'll have a good time on the out! lololololol

Morning, cher.

"Whoever says, 'I love God,' but hates his brother is a liar. The one who doesn’t love the brother whom he has seen can’t love a God whom he hasn’t seen" (1 John 4:20)

chersully, thanks. I posted a bit about Jacob on the letters of the 22nd to HRH.

forHIM, there are many many many reasons that society is going wrong. There are many many many things that need to be changed. Hunger, poverty, alcohol and drug abuse, teenage pregnancies, abortion as birth control, corruption in governments, war, basic human rights for all people everywhere in the world and on and on. Gays and lesbians are not evil and I do not believe they are responsible for the ills of the world. Treating people with respect and dignity would be a good starting place. It's a shame that instead of making a difference in the lives of third world nations as Mr. Heath will be doing we spend so much time on debating who is real and who isn't - who means what they say and who doesn't - who will spend eternity in on God's right hand and who will spend it on His left - who will enter the gates and who will burn. The time we have on earth is so minuscule in comparison to eternity. Homosexuality isn't "doing" perverse anything to me. The treatment many gays/lesbians receive from those that consider them perverse is disturbing to me and to me is a symptom of part of what is wrong in society.

Jack B.

exactly what makes it so attractive to a lost world william. Where you choose to spend eternity is an awful price to pay for such a short time of what you call fun. I love my life more now than I ever did as an unbeliever. You have no idea what your missing in your dark world. I know, I've been there, have seen it from both sides. Will now die for my Jesus. Sad to think who and what your going to die for.

free2bee, then I can only say to you that if where people spend eternity is of little concern to you, you are missing something truly profound and I feel sorry for you.

when did you "find christ"?

free2bee, you have been bashing Mike Heath for months on end here and just yesterday on this very post said "Great News! Hallelujah!! Jack B!" And now that you know he resigned your putting on the pious face and praising him for going to a third world country? Who do you think your fooling? You know all the right things to say don't you. Very clever on your part.

Leth, are you addressing me?

free2bee said:" Homosexuality isn't "doing" perverse anything to me." You have no idea how wrong you are.

yeah, i was just kind of curious.

forHIM, Yes I am glad he is out of his former job I will not deny - no I do not think he treats gays/lesbians with respect. I do not think he has been 100% honest with the people of Maine - he has made statements that are not correct and are conjecture. Do I think he can make a difference with the position he is taking - yes. He is a very persistent man and has the ability.

I will leave Mr. Heath alone.

Jack B.

forHIM regarding eternity - we all have free will. We are all responsible for ourselves in that respect. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

I have my water and you have yours - I'm fine with mine.

Jack

LethbridgeStewart I was in my late thirties.

Like I said before, you know all the right things to say. Its the source of your water that matters.

Farewell Mr. Heath. Thank you for standing up for families and the rights of the unborn, and for being courageous enough to

hold such a difficult post amongst a lot of hostile opposition.

12:04 PM, forHIMtoday, my world is filled with sparkling dinner conversation with people who are educated and I learn something new every day. There is no talk of the "final days" and fear of the unknown. There is no condemning people to hell nor expected adherence to superstition and delusions. There is respect and dignity for others and for diversity, and the understanding that an inclusive society makes a strong nation. There is no tolerance for the criminal abuse or persecution of others, and there is an expectation that all non-criminal people equally deserve recognition as valid citizens under the law. And better yet, the young adults who are the children of my friends have grown up seeing positive diverse role models. You're on your way out while we are still growing spiritually and socially.

MCCL and Michael Heath stood for nothing I believe.

Hey Ted, obviously the economy is tanking due to the homosexuals! Cute and Clever! I have a new strategy for you though. Why don't the gay marriage proponents simply change some more words. Christian could mean: any one or thing that has a pulse. Gay could mean: blissful or happy... o wait a minute... Word could mean: an undefined grouping of letters to be defined by a Christian (see former definition). As for "knowing everything", you indicated you didn't know anyone with an STD, and I was simply pointing out, that you may not know that they do.

I didn't change the definitions, Turkey... nor did I change the definitions of the hundreds of other words that have expanded in meaning in just the very recent past.

Truth be told, I'd be perfectly content with a civil union that extends full protections and guarantees... but I find no rational argument against extending "marriage" to same-sex couples. None whatsoever.

As for the STD, point taken. As I don't sleep around, I'm not really concerned about STDs.

His relevance fading away, Heath exits --

http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/story.php?id=285008&ac=

Nemitz, you finally wrote something I've found entertaining, sir!

blame it on Bush

Tedlick (strange name), Turkeytalker is due to the fact that I'm an avid turkey hunter (just wanted to explain my strange name)...

I was thinking about the "Fall of Rome" Bloomburg artical you forwarded me... you being a fiscal conservative should appreciate this. A large portion of the economic woes of our country are directly due to special interest groups bemoaning discrimination, and demanding special (excuse me equal) rights! Tens of thousands of mortgages were given out to individuals who could not afford the home they were purchasing, but because of their minority status, were granted loans that they consequently forfeited on. The bleeding hearts thought they were being kind and open minded, and in the end they crippled the whole economic machine. Now yes I know that's not the whole ball of wax, but I think there are some interesting corolations. Special Interest anyone?

perhaps it was the greed of people like Bruce Hammonds, Ken Lewis and John Thain that lead to the credit crisis rather than their desire to "help" minorities?

Tedlick Badkey was a halfling thief I played in D&D through college... when I got into the internet in the early 90's, I kept the name as my online email, etc... name and it's just kinda stuck for things I do online.

As for the financial mess we're in, I honestly don't see how extending the same protections and guarantees to same sex couples that are now given to traditional married couples could be compared to the housing fiasco. I just don't see how it could ever involve so much money, and so many suckered people. I'm not asking for anything that isn't already extended to traditional marriage guarantees and protections under the federal and state governments.

Michael Heath: Take Gov Baldacci with you. You both have been blowing wind in this state for too long.

forHIM, yesterday when I posted they hadn't put up the "rest of the story". Today is a new day. Yesterday is gone. My water is blessed with a renewed faith today. Try as you may you won't get me riled. I have a new lease on life and it is good!

Though I disagreed with Mr. Heath, and his tactics, in a way I'm sorry to see him go. At least you knew where he stood (usually in the way), and his over the top reactions, more oft than not, drove many people, who may have supported his cause, away. Now we will have to deal with his replacement who, if they have any comprehension, will have learned from Mr. Heath's mistakes.

Hey Ted, My buddies do not include Barney Frank... isn't he out of the closet... and you forgot to mention Sallie Mae and Freddy Mac... o well. Anytime anyone wants to put a financial cap on someone else it smacks of communism or at very least socialism. "Hired a President" is a very interesting way of describing this term of office. Hope and Change... You will get no argument out of me concerning the last 20 years in the White House, they all buggered it up as best as they could. I say reduce Government and it's intrusions into our lives as much as possible. And here we are again, why should government, simply because they are smarter than I, pass a piece of legislation as contentious as the homosexual marriage bill, without allowing the people to vote.

Dearest Mr Heath,

Couldn't you use a little more help in Africa?

Why don't you take some of your sheep with you: forHIMtoday, howbri, lovetheBDN, JeffDubay, greyhound, PabMainer, TurkeyTalker, HRH419, JoeDoe?

Please for the love of GOD, take them as well PLEASE!!!

downeastdave, I want you to know that I feel discriminated against due to your hateful post. Such a vile and threatening tone to your writings. It is obvious that you are a man of faith speaking of love and GOD, so you must be one of those fundamentalists that the Obama admin. has identified as a possible homeland terrorist group. I will forgive you if you say you are sorry, and if you post 100 times "I will not be a hateful bigot".

downeast if you have something to reference in regards to me then be a man and address it to me otherwise.....

Mike Heath is a true Patriot

A Christian Conservative and I see eye to eye with him

We need more bold, aggresive Patriots like him in every area of our culture

Now is no time for wimps....All you Christian Conservatives ,stand tall for the

rights that our Forefathers died for and don't be discouraged by the "no clue" opposition.

Let Mike Heath be a living testimony to all of us.

Rockporter Chrisian Conservative

"say reduce Government and it's intrusions into our lives as much as possible"

I couldn't agree with you more... but as long as protections and guarantees are granted to marriages for some citizens, we'll push for it to be applied equally.

A for the vote, I do not favor democracies and never will. The concept of a representative republic as laid down by the Founding Fathers works fine, and doesn't allow for mob rule. If we'd had democracy through the Great Depression (when the mob was desperate) I doubt we'd have come through it in one piece. To Quote Ben Franklin:

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote."

GeneGraves, well said. Its time to throw down the gauntlet and say no more!

Hey tedlick and everyone! ..You know... Have you ever noticed how much people use that phrase 'you know' ? Like if I were to say, 'You know, I think the truly smart and happy people here are gay and pro gay and feel happiness and love every gosh darn day of their lives, that's the way Jesus would want it to be, ya know, people being happy and enjoying life.. If Jesus didn't want us to be happy we'd all be in Iran or Saudi Arabia figuring out ways to kill and maim the people who piss us off for some reason.. don't ya know. '

"We need more bold, aggresive Patriots like him in every area of our culture"

Too bad the opposite is happening.

"Let Mike Heath be a living testimony to all of us."

Yeah, go to Africa where there's less resistance to your ideas. LOL!

Take EJ Parsons, Drigodad and seeker too

plz dont take EJ to africa, EJ is one of the more level headed fundies who use this site...(myself) being someone who likens religion to privates (don't make a public spectacle of it and don't put it down other's throats) I've been very surprised by the saneness of some of his postings.

ps... please leave the more extreme ones for the benefit of our amusement. ^_^

Of course truth... I am adding to the flock as well...Gene Graves.

Gene...you really should check the definition of Patriot which Mike Heath is NOT.

Patriot: a person who loves his or her country and passionately supports its interests.

The last I checked the interests of this country were "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" . Mike Heath does not beleive in freedom. He wants a Taliban like nation which us TRUE PATRIOTS continue to fight against. You are an insult to the flag and the soldiers that defend this country.

I wish he could take the gays with him. I'm sure he will help alot of people . God bless him.

downeastdave,

May I suggest that you spend some time reading some real history of our nation

You might start with "Wallbuilders", they have the last word in the real facts of our Country

Dave Barton is another real hero to the accurate record of our American Heritage.

I forgive you for your foolish comments......they are of no real value to thinking people.

All of the good that came out of America, came from the "The Holy Bible" and all that it taught our brave Forefathers

Try checking it out, You might be surprised at "What you'll learn"

LethbridgeStewart: I agree about Mr. Parsons. He has different opinions than I do , a lot, but he is a decent man.....one can tell, after listening and reading over time. He is not hypocritical. And I have never seen him go around making comments at someone else's expense....."excellent",etc....

No, Mr Parsons and I may not agree on a lot of specific things, but he is who he is......he does not try and pretend to be anything but. As a Christian, he is respectful and not hypocritical, and does not make insulting remarks, or get all gleeful when someone else does at someone's expense.

It is refreshing and right.

GeneGraves

A Patriot

–noun

1. a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion.

2. a person who regards himself or herself as a defender, esp. of individual rights, against presumed interference by the federal government.

JD: Thanks for putting that up here....definition of Patriot. I think sometimes that some forget all the meanings of that word and only look at one aspect of it. Both #1 and #2 are very important.

Hey, I fit both definitions to a tee.

Vote No on One

Wow, A ton of hate speech here toward Mike Heath. Some of you sound like spoiled children throwing out name-calling. what happened to all the love and acceptance that so many of you keep preaching?

wspahn

If you are talking about opposeing foward progress of society's evolution, then you may want to stop and look around you. If what I see is progress, then a lot of people should either get back in their holes, or straighten up and fly right. To start with, our country was built on trusting God with our lives and now so many people don't even want God in the picture. You will see what will and is happening when we don't have people fighting for a better country like it used to be, not seeing it go down the crapper, which is where it is headed right now. People say you need to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything. I hope what you stand for is what God wants for you and not just what you want from people.

If you don't have your eyes set upon Jesus, then you are one of the downfall of this country! Please hold some great standards for life! Thank You!

rick102 welcome. but beware you will now be added to downeastdaves export list posted at 3:28. Its a good list to be on!

Mr Heath better be careful over there in Tanzania. He starts preaching something they don't like and it will be the machete for him. Hate and intolerance are what started the genocide in Rwanda. Had a chance to visit Tanzania in my youth, Beautiful place, but they told us not to wander to far away from the hotel, because the gangs of homeless, orphaned kids, "The Beach Boys" would rob you of the clothes off your back. Only hotel in the world where there was a chain link fence 15 feet hight that went out into the ocean to keep the tourists safe from the locals. Good luck Mr. Heath and putting on a hat and a pair of sunglasses wont help you fit in with locals.

Thank You Rick102

Well spoken...I'm with your sentiments exactly

You'll notice one thing in particular as our country continues on this speedy downhill slide

into sin's disaster....It's people become more self-centered and caring less about those around them....

and another trait is that they are unwilling to face the truth.

Remember what the Scripture says, "And the Truth shall set you Free"

Thank you for your rgreat testimony when you wrote at 12 noon....

It is a great encouragement

A Christian Conservative

Gene...

We get the fact that you are a Christian Conservative. No need to spell it out.

A Socially Liberal, Fiscally Conservative Libertarian

Thank you for all your hard work for Christ, and the great State of Maine. May the Lord go with you and bless you richly as you continue to labor for Him.

The State of Maine needs more people like you to stand up and fight for what is right, instead of our current bunch of politicians who are trying to ruin our beautiful state.

We the people need to fight the far left that is trying to turn our state in a "gay state" by backing same sex marriages, gay adoptions, etc. Marriage is between one man and one woman, not two men or two women. The country is being destroyed by these liberals and their homosexual agenda. Also their position of abortion, killing these beatiful babies that will never have the opportunity become what they were meant to be. No wonder God is removing His blessings upon America. This country was established on strong Christian beliefs with God's blessing upon it, which is why it has grown into such a strong nation. Let's not tear it down.

Continue to stand firm in your Christian beliefs.

God bless

mapletonboy, AMEN!

Mapleton is another one for Mike's Ark to Africa

and here I thought we'd be flying! Do we have to go by boat?

All right, what's going on? You load the boat with the right-wingers, then a couple of you say nice things about me and pull me off the boat. lol.

In truth, you would all miss the passionate debate that comes from the right. It just wouldn't be that much fun if they all shipped off and all you had left on the right was me. Besides, there are more and more uplinks available in Africa, and they would eventually get back on just to irratate the left.

Regardless, thanks for the nice comments.

I think if the truth be known, Heath is a gay man who opted to have religion “cure” him and now if gay people are allowed to marry and are treated with respect, he would resent that because he opted to hide his sexuality and take what he thought was the best path. He would have to admit his failures if same sex couples marry, not only in his personal path but in his career as well. He really would envy gay men if they were treated as valid citizens. He would have made a great gay rights activist had he not chosen to distort himself. He thinks his place in the hereafter is secured because of all the bad things he did to gay people. He's likely a tortured man.

Re: 10:04....What a totally uncalled for, baseless, shameful and hateful accusation and comment to say about a man who has stood consistent and firm for his convictions on moral issues while in the public's view for all of his years of service to conservatism in the state of Maine....Your postings have become as disgraceful and as hateful as any and you should be ashemed of yourself, but highly unlikely.....:(

Gotta' agree with PabMainer, William. In the last few weeks, you have become increasingly bitter and are acting just like those you accuse of being rude and uncaring. Take some time off and clear your head.

pab, thank you for saying that. I have met him and his wife and kids. Absolutely beautiful family that love the Lord. He is a man of integrity. You should hear his wife sing..wow!

Wow.....I guess we know how you would feel about gay men who chose one of your church cure programs. Right? I didn't see my comment as negative but as a reason for his focus on gay men. Do you remember the news articles from all over the country he had posted on the MCCL website about men molesting boys? Some of them were very old. He had none posted of men molesting girls which we see in the news papers frequently. 4 within the past month in Maine. I was being kind.

So am I correct, forHIM, in assuming you would still hold a gay man who chose to marry a woman and to never have a relationship with another man in distain? Imagine the sacrifice this person would have made for approval of the church and of God only to be still looked on with the contempt just expressed here at the thought of it. I rest my case.

By the way, what I posted has been the rumor for years and it usually isn’t expressed that tactfully. It’s not original on my part.

William - Should unsubstantiated rumors be repeated, even if the repeater words them carefully? Don't you think that in the 20 years he was associated with the League, that he would have been ratted out by someone? It's these kind of unsubstantiated rumors that hurt people that have done nothing wrong. And it's a tactic the left uses when they want to deflect from the real issue and ruin their target. It's desparation, and you know better.

I meant...."he's done nothing wrong" Sorry. I have not become bitter in my posts just more difficult to refute. You interpret it as bitter.
