CARIBOU, Maine — A New Sweden man faces multiple charges after a car chase Thursday.

Edward Dunne, 41, was apprehended after an incident that began just after 9 a.m.

Caribou police Officer Jason Matheson said that he was on patrol in the city when he saw a 1988 Dodge Dakota that he believed to be speeding.

The vehicle had just turned off North Main Street, according to Matheson.

“I turned around and started to pursue him and he decided not to stop,” he said, adding that Dunne was driving 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.

Dunne allegedly speeded up, with Matheson in pursuit. When Dunne began getting close to a school zone, Matheson backed off a bit.

Dunne ditched the vehicle on Elmwood Avenue and took off on foot, according to Matheson.

By that time, Officer Doug Bell had joined the pursuit. He found Dunne a short time later hiding in the neighborhood.

Matheson said Dunne was uncooperative and would not answer many questions. He refused to submit to a test to determine whether he was under the influence of intoxicants, so he was automatically charged with operating under the influence, the officer said.

Dunne also was charged with eluding an officer, a felony.

Subsequent charges included operating without a license, reckless conduct with a motor vehicle, failure to register a motor vehicle, violation of conditions of release, criminal mischief, speeding and failure to stop at a stop sign.

Dunne was taken to the Aroostook County Jail.

He just made a bad situation worse... If the blue lights are flashing, pull over and be cooperative. Stand up and take the punishment you deserve, be a REAL man.

Dunne...you just got done making a whole day of BAD choices. You are lucky you didn't kill someone during your idiodic venture.

I just want to point out what a great job Officer Matheson did. He backed off the chase when they got close to a school zone, showing that he understands what his job is all about. Probably had to swallow his pride a little in order to protect innocent children. And they still got their man shortly after! Great job Caribou PD!

Amazed has a great point. The police WILL catch you more often than not. Running will only get you into more trouble. He will learn a very expensive lesson.

I guess in this man's 41 years of life, he didn't grow brains. Good job Caribou PD for taking care of this dirtbag.

not the case here but how can you out run a radio. not many do.

i know this man quite personally, and he is a good man, he just makes bad decisions. he has a baby on the way and obviously wasn't thinking of that. he needs some time to think about it, now he will have plenty. too bad he'll miss his baby being born.

It's a "Dunne" Deal!!!!!!!..........great job by all the Officers involved!!!!!!!!!
