Millinocket interested in sharing KAT

MILLINOCKET, Maine — The Town Council and Town Manager Eugene Conlogue love the idea of sharing Katahdin Area Television with East Millinocket and Medway.

Especially, councilors said, if those two towns share in the public access station’s costs.

That’s what councilors and Conlogue said during a meeting Thursday in which Councilor Michael Madore and others expressed interest in expanding usage of KAT-TV and Conlogue rebutted claims made by East Millinocket resident Scott Dorr, a founding member of KAT-TV, that Conlogue was against the notion.

“It is my belief that expanded usage of KAT would be of great benefit to the whole area,” Conlogue said in a letter to East Millinocket’s Board of Selectmen dated Oct. 2.

“As you know, there are a number of residents in East [Millinocket] who regularly tune in to watch KAT, and more programming from East [Millinocket] and Medway would provide greater use of the station by all cable subscribers,” Conlogue wrote.

Dorr has said he will meet with the Medway Board of Selectmen on Oct. 19 to discuss his idea of establishing a channel for the two towns, possibly on Polaris Cable, which serves Medway and other parts of the region.

The East Millinocket board expressed some interest in the idea at its meeting on Sept. 28, but members doubted that money for the venture would be readily available. The town’s budget is set.

It would take $2,000 to $9,000 to launch public access TV in East Millinocket and Medway, Dorr said. Besides grants, the television effort could be paid for by business sponsorships, advertising and private donations.

Among the ideas suggested was sharing time with Millinocket on its Channel 13. Another option would be using an unused or underused KAT- TV channel and sharing it between Medway and East Millinocket. Dorr is exploring that with Polaris’ operators, he has said.

Madore said he thought it would be worthwhile if the two towns also could share in KAT costs and that residents would probably be interested in seeing meetings of both towns’ boards of selectmen.

KAT broadcasts Millinocket School Committee and council meetings regularly.

Sure they are....now that the council knows about it! What are the chances Gene didn't bother to go to the council like he is supposed to? They don't want Scott there anyway....he actually DOES things! Millinocket would rather lick it's wounds and cry about what used to be instead of moving on. Good Luck Scott hope it becomes a reality....that doesn't include KAT.

Jennifer

The way I see it, at least Millinocket had something to be proud of at one point.

What has Medway ever had? I mean besides the landfill, a drug problem and a high rate of people on the dole?

The two towns near the interstate would be nothing today if not for Millinocket. You should count your blessings.

SinCity do you know anything about KATv? It's history?

Just hope and pray that biomass boiler becomes a reality up in Millinocket. Everyday they are hauling stuff out of that mill, it will never reopen without the stainless steel tanks and all the metal that is being scrapped DAILY. Sad to see what was once the GREAT town of Millinocket knocked to her knees and all anyone up there can do is bicker over who's fault it is and who's going to save the town.

oh SinCity, I don't know where you have been but Medway has plenty of businesses in town. Scott's/Earthgro just expanded last year and is expanding again this year.

you guys have been riding on the coattails of millinocket for a hundred years.

it's about time you learned to do something for yourselves.

We have been. As I said Earthgro expanded last year, is expanding again this year and with the amount of trucks in and out of there they are doing very well. Medway has never had the mill to pay their bills for them. Sounds a bit like sour grapes on your end. With all the stuff they are yanking out of the mill their taxes are going to be going down again. When #11 is pulled out there will be no equipment there to be taxed. Better get ready cause it's going to be a bumpy ride for Millinocket unfortunately. With everyone fighting up there no company is going to come to town with that political environment.

Arent those the 2 guys that used KATs equipment and time to publish shows that they took credit for and sold? Cuz I think that even in Millinocket they call that theft. Intresting that the article talks about counselors suggesting that KAT sharing is the way to go and the next sentence shows the real cooperative spirit of these two bozos. "Another option would be using an unused or underused KAT- TV channel and sharing it between Medway and East Millinocket. Dorr is exploring that with Polaris’ operators, he has said."

Oh come on quit beating around the bush. And just come right out and say it - KAT TV is the only entertainment that the elderly citizens and the state sucks ever get! They park it in front of the tv and watch the ads over and over and over again. They watch the only 3 soap operas filmed locally. After all if they fall asleep mid-way thru that's ok they can watch it again in a couple hours or the next day. " As the Town turns" - council meeting. " Generic Hospital "- whatever they're going to cure this week. " One School To Live " - School board meeting where they never get to the episode where someone finally closes the other schools. At least IF they taped East Mill's and Medway's versions there would be enough to fill the day with soap operas! But Scott I find it rather strange that you said you'd contact Polaris about Kat in East and Medway. I live in East... something you might want to think about... we have Beeline not Medway cable!! So what good would it do to tape East's meetings and show them on a channel they don't even get? Oh I get it so Medway can laugh at East's meetings. Like East laughs at Millinocket's.

Gene shame on you! I really thought you'd finally learned your lesson on sharing things with East and Medway. How many court cases has the town paid for now because of that last brilliant idea to share services? And oh look! Now he's in hot water up to his ears for a letter he wrote on the WRONG stationary! I'm sure that one will end up in court as well!

Jennifer, SinCity does not know there history very well, Medway was here first and I don't think we have asked Millinocket to help us once in all that time. Also Millinocket has not been the same since Lennie Wallace's Store put in Fresh Dough Pizza & the ATM machine, It's been down hill from there for them.

Rather than have to stand before the KAT board and agree to sign the waivers they need to sign these two scallywags would rather go to Medways selectmen to see if they can scam that group. What exactly do you think they are afraid of?

Yeah. That's what I thought you would say. Nice crickets.

Why doesn't KAT post their rules & regulations? Kat refuses to air programs because of some violation to their rules...What are the rules? It seems nobody wants to sign KAT's waiver cause it is basically a "slave" document which states that if you produce something w/KAT's equipment, KAT gets to keep all the rights allowing KAT to sell it, make money & leave the producer without a penny, yet they are paying Stink St. John. Obviously, the Kat Board wants "Toby's" to do their work @ KAT. Get off your can RattyMatty & quit complaining. KAT has set up these rules so that Gene Conjob, David Cry, Sue Walsh, Kathy Gagnon, Milt Bradley & Stink St. John can control what is being aired. Why does KAT show the Congo Church & NOT show the Catholic Church services?...it's because Dan Thibodeau produces them...this is discrimination plain & simple as well as violation of "Freedom of Religion" . RattyMatty come out from behind the bushes if you dare but like everyone @ KAT...you're a coward. I know you're not smart enough to keep your mouth shut Ratty, but you don't know what your talking about. If KAT is so great w/out Scott & Dan, why does everybody in town say that it "SUCKS". The fact that Ratty seemed to enjoy KAT TV currently, only goes to show that she & her daughter is long over due for that visit to their shrink.

Well katahdinmayor, I can't comment on most of your post as I don't get KAT-TV and I haven't seen their "slave" agreement, but I can tell you that a contract of that type is very standard in the entertainment industry. Is it fair? No. But that's the way it goes.

Dan Thibodeau you may think you are katahdinmayor but its only in you're mind.If you find a way to rook East and Medway into a station you can tape and air the Catholic mass instead of assalting the parishoners with your ungodly singing. Who told you you can sing? Most parishoners are either screaming in their heads or snickering at you. What a chump. You're post Dan Thibodeau aka katahdinmayor shows why they kicked you out of KAT. Some might feel sorry for you're phisical and mental problems but not everyone does but that do not mean they are descriminating against you.If you don't want to follow the rules don't cry and namecall like a baby.

As for jtalbott you think you know it all but all you know is what Dave Cyr and Alice tell you.

I'm sorry to hear you are no longer taking your Meds CB. I'll be sure to pray for you too. Get well soon & God bless you.

THIS is the reason that Millinocket will go it alone! They like to b!tch, p!ss, moan and complain all the while nothing gets done! I, for one, am glad that Scott and Dan are willing to help East and Medway get their own channel! I am willing to bet that if this goes thru that we will have programming beyond Millinocket council and school board meetings.
