BANGOR, Maine — The Maine Grocers Association and the Maine Food Producers Alliance are joining forces to present Maine Food Means Business, a daylong partnership summit on marketing food produced in Maine.

Set for Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Hollywood Slots Hotel & Raceway, the summit will involve a series of meetings, networking opportunities, a luncheon and keynote address, and an afternoon Members Marketplace segment. The summit will wrap up with a banquet and a dance featuring Veggies by Day.

Check-in for the event, which is open to members of the two organizations, begins at 10 a.m.

According to the summit schedule, the business portion of the summit begins at 11 a.m., with concurrent board of directors meetings of the grocers association and the food producers group. The grocers association will conduct its annual meeting at 11:30 a.m.

Next on the slate is a luncheon featuring keynote speaker Jeanne Hulit, regional administrator of the Small Business Association and a longtime advocate for Maine businesses. Seth Bradstreet, the state’s agriculture commissioner, will introduce Hulit.

Presentations, informational sessions and introductory meetings between food buyers and food producers will follow during the marketplace session, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Among the highlights will be an appearance by Edgecomb restaurateur and chef Roger Bintliff, who will present exclusive marketing opportunities available through The Chef’s Kitchen TV and Maine Chef’s Pantry. Bintliff also will team up with Hollywood Slots Executive Chef Gary Ames to create a special culinary treat.

The Maine Food and Drinks reception will follow from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe and U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud are among the invitees.

The summit will conclude with a 6:30 p.m. awards banquet and dancing.
