MACHIAS, Maine — A Machias man was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with arson in connection with an overnight fire at a home in the Washington County town of Dennysville, according to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Bryon Alley, 51, was arrested at his home about 7:45 a.m. and taken to the Washington County Jail in Machias.

Investigators were called to the home of 61-year-old Joyce Morse on the South Ridge Road in Dennysville about 2 a.m. after she reported a fire on the outside of her mobile home. Morse told investigators she was awakened by her dogs after the fire broke out and she was able to put the fire out using water.

Morse suffered minor burns on her feet, but refused immediate medical treatment.

Fire Marshal Sgt. Tim York said the fire was set near a door on the outside of the home using nearby combustible material.

York said Alley and Morse knew each other.

Alley was questioned a few hours after the fire and was then arrested.

No fire department was involved.
