BANGOR, Maine — Voters re-elected incumbents Pat Blanchette and Geoff Gratwick, along with newcomer Cary Weston, to fill three open seats on the City Council.
Voters also selected Nichi Farnham and Elizabeth Grant to serve on the Bangor School Committee and approved a pair of amendments to the city’s charter.
The first amendment reduces from 150 to 100 the number of signatures needed for a City Council candidate to get his or her name on the ballot. The second amendment changes the way candidates’ names appear on a ballot. Instead of being listed alphabetically, the candidates’ names will appear on the ballot in the order drawn by lot by the city clerk.
In the City Council race, Gratwick led all candidates with 5,278 votes, followed by Blanchette with 5,158 and Weston with 4,977. Incumbent councilor Peter D’Errico was next with 3,863 votes, followed by Paul Lodgek with 1,560, John Kossowan with 1,187 and Marco Antonio Almodovar with 1,182.
In the school committee race, Grant led the way with 5,470 votes, followed by Farnham, an incumbent, with 5,215. Charles “Nick” Bearce received 3,027 votes.
