Search finds man at EMMC

Marie and Edwin Howard of Sangerville.

SANGERVILLE, Maine — A search for a Sangerville man who was reported missing by his wife Thursday ended when he was located at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Marie Howard of Silvers Mills Road called the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department around 9 a.m. Thursday and reported that her husband, Edwin Howard, 81, was missing, said Sgt. Kevin Adam of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

A search was initiated for Howard by wardens, deputies from the Sheriff’s Department, local firefighters, and Maine Search and Rescue. It was called off when Howard was located about 2:15 p.m. at EMMC. He had been unaware that a search was being conducted for him.

Unbeknownst to his wife, Howard had left home to go to the Bangor hospital, according to Adam. As of late Thursday afternoon, Adam was unsure who took Howard to the hospital.

“All’s well that ends well,” Adam said, pleased that the man had been located.

When Howard was reported missing, Adam said, searchers went on the assumption he had taken a walk, as he sometimes does, so a search was conducted in the immediate area. He said wardens had called Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft early in the search to see whether Howard had been taken there by a motorist.

Marie Howard told authorities that she last had seen her husband at home at approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday. He was missing when she awoke around 7 a.m. Thursday.

Great news that Mr. Howard was found safe.

They called the waitress at the Irving Big Stop in Newport, and she suggested they try checking hospitals in the area.

good one SpecialEd. also, glad he was found safe.

Yes it leaves you wondering, but they also can't report what they don't know. It says right in the article that the warden said he didn't know how they guy got to the hospital.

I'm glad this story turned out with a good ending.
