Bangor city manager on short list for Lewiston administrator post

BANGOR — City Manager Ed Barrett has been named a finalist for the vacant city administrator position in Lewiston, just one week after city councilors in Bangor encouraged him to retire.

Barrett, 62, confirmed Thursday that he was approached late last week by officials in Lewiston about a position there that has been vacant since July.

“I called them back Monday and said I was interested,” he said. “They invited me to come down and interview last evening.”

Denis Jean, human resources director for the city of Lewiston, said Barrett has been added to a short list of finalists for the position. The three others are Phil Nadeau, Lewiston’s assistant city administra-tor since 1999; Jeffrey Kobrock, former city manager of Gardiner; and John “Doug” Harris, former Fal-mouth town manager.

Good Luck, Mr. Barrett!!!

Oh boy, now Bangor is in a lurch! Best to Ed Barrett in Maine's second largest city. Let's see now, I broke this story an hour before the news posted it..sorry BDN..

Larry knows best, did you make city councilor again Larry I hope Not

I still can't understand why a Brewer city official is using this tabloid site to communicate with voters, it seems very strange to me.

Oh you'll just have to get over yourself Bangorian. Suck it up. By the way, why don't you put your true idenity on this New web page. What is it that seems to eat you up about my posing's? Do you actually live in Bangor? If so, man or woman up and put your name attached to your sometimes idiotic comments. So, who are you? Be proud Bangorian. Larry T. I know it was a typo Larry, but posing seems to fit you. I have no problem with you posting here. It just seems you are more interested in what happens on this side of the river. Not enough excitement for you over there?

And yes Bangorian is from Bangor - Bangorean is not from Bangor.

Congrats to Mr. Barrett- my guess is he will treat the city of Bangor a lot better in his transition- where ever it is- than they did him.

Lewiston did not waste any time to contact Ed Barrett, did they? That phone call would not have been initiated, in my opinion, if Lewiston's hiring and search team did not really have a viable candidate to fill their position in Lewiston.

Lewiston is one heck of a progressive town, and it could be...it could be...something lies in the corner of the City Hall in Bangor; it was NOT Ed Barrett's non-progressive thinking that got him terminated. Maybe it is something hidden from view at City Hall therein, which caused Ed to be in the way of something else happening. Vendetta's are really harsh, but so are paybacks, Bangor Counselor's!

I'm very happy that Mr. Barrett has interviewed for another position in the state of Maine. Good luck to you Mr. Barrett!!

Hey King Eddie...Don't let the door hit you in the you-know-what on the way out of Bangor. Head south and don't look back.

Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll take the airport director with him! Effective next month, the Lewiston/Auburn airport only has 5 flights a day less than Bangor - and they don't even have any commercial carriers serving that airport!

Good Riddens Eddie - You won't be missed - Maybe you could leave before the end of the year - I second the motion - Take the idiot RedHead with you

Maybe he will take Larry Doughty with him too

So much for retirement...

No larry, we just dont like you and we dont like you posting things about bangor that dont mean a darn thing to your stupid website. Maybe i should make one, or hold on i already have one. And post things about brewer and u

Another sign of things to come for Bangor; In central and northern Maine it is clear the manter for those who wish to succeed and prosper is 'go south young man';

Larry Doughty - I don't live in Bangor or Brewer and don't know you from Adam, but I have to say that based on your comment above, where you're 'crowing' to have beaten the BDN by an hour - WHO GIVES A CRAP? Maybe you should see if the BDN has any openings for a reporter. Just glad your not my councilman. And, "Bangorian", I completely agree with you. This guy has to be the epitomy of "bush league". Certainly not very professional.

It appears that Bangor is going through the municipal version of an identity re-definition (I'd prefer not to use the word "crisis" because it seems a bit too dramatic, but maybe not by much). Bangor needs to do this because much has changed since Bangor became a city, much of it not terribly beneficial to Bangor. Good luck, Bangor! I'm rooting for you!

Northwoods, your remarks are so hurtful. I guess you haven't learned much about thee..otherwise, you would speak more kindly of thee..by the way, what is your identity. Oh, your like others on this Web site, lots of opinions, yet not the courage to place your name with those remarks. It puts you and others of your persuasion, as cowards. You along with Bangorian, Coronadrinker. Come on, sign your true name to your postings, as they may have more validity. Probablly not thought. Sorry, but that is the way some see it..Have a nice weekend. Larry T. Doughty, South Brewer. larrytdoughty@yahoo.com, www.ourstory.com/larrytdoughty.

Larry: Your mouth runth over. Think about it!

Oh, another brave soul making comments but doesn't want to be responsible for same. What a bunch of cowards positng on the News web site..Larry T. Doughty
