Maine cops ask hunters to look for weapons

By The Associated Press

NEWPORT, Maine — The Maine State Police are asking hunters in the Newport area to be on the lookout for any hunting or camping items they might find in the woods.

Police are still searching for a hunting rifle as part of their investigation into the Oct. 26 shooting death of 75-year-old Perley Goodrich Sr. at his Newport home.

Goodrich’s son, 45-year-old Perley Goodrich Jr., was missing for four days after the shooting.

Police say two guns were located after the shooting, but the rifle is still missing.

The younger Goodrich was captured at a Newport convenience store four days after the shooting.

Goodrich is now facing murder charges.

Police have not said publicly where Goodrich was between the shooting and his capture.

"Cops"? .......................That term just doesn't seem to fit our state troopers.

Oh, and there is a distinct difference between a cop & a police officer.

A cop is a cop but a police officer is a professional!

I agree with you 100%. That was poor taste of wording.

I have absolutely nothing against police officers, but what is wrong with the word "cop"? Come on, don't start another issue with wording, where one will be charged with a crime for using the wrong choice of words. I could clearly see it if someone used the word "pig", but the word "cop" has been around for many many years.

I grew up using the word "negro" when describing a person who was of black color, then it was changed to "blacks" and now it's been changed to "African American". I have a friend that I grew up with, who adamantly detests the wording: African American, when anyone describes him. As he put it... he was born in America, so he's not African, he's American and he wants to be described as "black". We can't seem to win, and it seems that we constantly live life in fear of using the wrong choice of words when describing almost anyone now-a-days.

Talk about having the fox guard the hen house. Let's ask a bunch of guys running around in the woods with gun to look for guns that might be been left in the woods by a guy running around in the woods with a gun.

Speaking about African American, how silly have we become? There was once a time when we were proud to be called AMERICAN. Now we have to boost our American heritage by addressing “blacks” as African American. Do our American’s from Asia have to be called Asian American, or our Americans from Germany have to be called German American, or Canadians, or Italians or you get the picture? No, I think not. Those Americans are just plain proud to be called AMERICANS. Are the “blacks’ in our country holders of such low self esteem that they need to be called African American? I think “black” Americans should be proud of their heritage and accomplishments just as any other American should be, but I think it very unnecessary and possibility the root of why we have racial issues for “black” Americans to demand the word African American used when describing their American status. We are what we think we are. If we are American, live free and proud. If we are African American, please go back to the country that you appear unhappy without. Be proud of America and let Africa be proud of it’s self.

First off the word cop comes from constible on patrol (C.O.P.) Second, Canadians are Americans. Look at a globe they live in north america just as we do. Third, there are white African-Americans. If a white person is born in Africa and imagrates to America they are now considered African-Americans. We can play this word game all day long, but really who gives a crap?

I'd have more trust in someone carrying a gun to find a gun and report it than I would someone who didn't carry a gun. The non-gun owner/carrier would probably just burry it.

I was a Game Warden in Pa for ten years, we were refered to Jackbooted thugs and Brown shirts. But when you had That poacher handcuffed in the back seat of the car they called you SIR!! (though tear filled eyes). I always tried to treat people as I would like to be treated.
