After repeal,it’s time to start again

By Sandi Carver
Special to the BDN

I have not been able to stop crying. I feel so much sadness for our state and our world. It is not the outcome of the vote that devastates me. It is the consciousness out of which the vote was cast that draws my tears.

Question 1 was a repeal of our state’s same-sex marriage law. But it had little to do with marriage. It had everything to do with civil rights, rights that ensure one’s ability to participate in civil life without discrimination or repression. This was a moral issue, a human issue, a spiritual issue. And I thought we were further along in our spiritual journey as a people than we are.

I truly believed that the greater majority would vote no on 1. I wasn’t worried about it because I believed. And Wednesday morning I woke startled to find I was wrong.

So I want to share more of myself that perhaps my experience might glean some insight into making this right today. I want to start a new campaign. Because again, this has little to do with marriage, and a whole lot to do with love, respect, equality, transcending a place of repression and hatred to a place that we can live together in peace and harmony. It starts here.

Initially, I had moments of anger that so many people would cast a vote that took away my rights. But more importantly, those people cast votes carrying a much larger message. That I am less than. That my family is less than. That we are somehow not as deserving of the same rights as everyone else. That I, as a spirit created of and by love, could be less than any other spirit of the same. As one of our dearest friends put it so clearly: This is ridiculous. Ridiculous in a very sad and devastating kind of way. Sad in a heartbreaking kind of way. Sad for all those souls that understand life as love.

Our hearts weep for a society that chose repression. But to look at the light in this darkness, wherever there is heartbreak, there is opportunity for expansion into a place that is more capable of love. There is opportunity for more awareness. We can be better. We can be more than we were Tuesday. This is a gift.

When one is repressed, we are all repressed. I am filled with compassion for those who hold in their hearts that which caused them to vote yes on 1. What, but fear, would cause someone to deliberately vote for repression? Usually people fear because they don’t understand. They fear the unknown, that which is outside of their “normal.” We can’t fault for that.

Anyone who is born outside of the “normal,” by handicap, race, color or sexual orientation, can tell you that his or her experience is different. Anyone who has had an experience outside of the “norm” can tell you that it changes their perspective. They have an understanding that despite the differences, we are all the same, all equal, all created by and of the same, all capable of the same love and appreciation. With more and more spirits being born outside of the norm, we as a world are being forced to grow and expand in love and acceptance.

If you had never been outside of the norm, or had not allowed your heart to look outside of the norm, it would be harder to learn this lesson.

The campaign I mentioned earlier is to love those who do not understand — those who fear and choose hatred and repression, as that is what they know. My campaign is one to turn our anger or sadness into something much greater — to expand our ability for love and respect. It is said that freedom never will be given by the oppressor, but must be demanded by the oppressed. I want to choose to hold love for my oppressors, break into their hearts and allow them to know and feel something more. Only then will the change be real. I want to choose love and hope that my oppressor feels something different from the fight. Peace and love are not born of war. Love bears love. It is simple.

While I am deeply saddened at the results of Question 1, this has provided us with a valuable reminder to be the change we wish to see in the world.

Sandi, marriage equality will be with us in less than five years. The arcs of increased justice and equality move slowly, but they are ever-rising.

Sandi Carver: It is so difficult to be patient when something affects one's life and family so much. I could never sit here and tell someone to be patient in this. This will be decided though in the favor of same sex couples and by the U.S. Supreme Court; the final arbiter. It will not be that long either. The poster at 8:09 PM says in less than five years, and I believe that poster is correct about this. Something to hold onto . It is a difficult ,and often painful, struggle to gain justice and equality; we have seen that throughout our history. The right thing and right outcome will be recorded in the history books and elsewhere, and that day is not going to be that much longer in coming.

another bleeding heart liberal who can't hear what's being said around her.

can we be any clearer??

Sandi is a nurse. That's good. There should be a grief counselor somewhere near where she works. Actually, she needs the love and guidance of Jesus Christ rather than someone's shoulder to cry on.

Gee, BDN, who's side are you on? How many more boo-hoo letters do you have to print?

does your hospital perform abortions Sandy?

Sandi: Thank you for the wonderful expressions. On another page was a photo of a couple praying( or preying) to 'celebrate' the victory of the "yes" crowd.

I hope they were praying for their own pitiful souls, full of self centeredness and fear of their very neighbors. Good luck to you, Sandi, and there will be a victory certain and not too far away, I hope.

I would like to commend Sandi on her letter. After I got beyond the complete immaturity and sappiness of it, I was able to appreciate the liberal new age language . Phrases and words like "consciousness', "spiritual journeys", "transcending a place of repression and hatred to a place that we can live together in peace and harmony", "more and more spirits being born outside of the norm", "we as a world are being forced to grow and expand in our love and acceptance"and the very best one ....." the light in this darkness".....that has to be one of my all time favorite new age phrases.

.

Luke 11:35 "Make Certain then, that the light in you is not darkness".

ladyslipper

couldn't agree with you more.

some people are just living in their own little world. they think their actions don't influence other people.

how mistaken they are.

Bleeding heart, crying liberals must be stopped from changing definitions in order to have the world conform to their twisted views.

Way to go - Ladyslipper!

Oh pleeeze! Look back through history. Man (nor woman) has never gotten "their rights" through vote of the majority. It is a well known secret that the majority fears and hates ANY change. People most often TAKE their rights at the point of a gun, the deck of a guillotine or by extreme civil unrest which makes the majority "deal".

What did you believe, that you would get this new system on the cheap? without bloodshed or extreme sacrifice? Did you think that the dinosuars would just roll over and die so you could inherit the planet... Never happened in history, and I have no reason to believe it will now. Sometimes, less often then coming to blows, rights are "granted" by the establishment through legislative of legal action. Some folks on the web believe this may occur. Some even believe it will happen "in a few years", but looking at the Supreme court justices, and assessing the mind-set of the pitchfork wielding masses, I doubt that the movement is on an upswing for this type of action.

You also make another incorrect (IMHO) assumption. you assume that folks, because of disability, minority status, or other outsider standing, might support your cause on the basis that they know what it feels like to be the victims of discrimination. I've heard from minority friends that there is nothing worse than being "questioned" by a minority cop. Once inside the system those folks must "prove" that they are just as establishment based as the majority.

The way I see it, you have two choices: Fight, or surrender. It's your battle, and your choice, as a "no" voter, I'll be watching, and if you show signs of being in it for the long haul, I might even cheer!

and that applies to whom???? from where and when are you writing? 1964 Mississippi?

I got news for you YES, your own little world is about to change....radically!

People can choose what they wish to believe in...but to reduce faith to a tree hugging experince is not what God intended for us.

this is at least the second guest oped column regarding the heartbreak of the no on one side.....please BDN, give it a rest, you lost, the people of maine have spoken..sandi carver, pls publish your address so we can send you a carton of kleenex....no one likes to lose, we all kn ow that..but someone has to.

has anyone asked that you not care for them, in your nursing profession, because you are a homosexual? the evil vindictiveness of the no on one side to someone who dared speak out as an experienced educator/counselor of children for decades does nothing to defend your weepy eyed opinion here.. should your license to care for all people in your work setting be revoked because you are so heartbroken and one sided on the issue? r can you give quality care to all for whom you care for? andwhat about the teacher who spoke out for your side? shouldnt her teaching certificate/license be threatened with revocation due to her stance? would our straight children be comfortable going to her superior self as teacher of the year in light of her pushing the "gay agenda"? Oh, I forgot, wasnt she quoted as saying she didnt know whtat a gay agenda was? o

..the touchy-feely catch phrases you use will not change what has happened...the majority of people have spoken.

I love all the intimidation tactics and TRUE hate speech on the part of the NO on 1side. But then again, we knew what you were all about all along, you old woolies. We've seen your tactics for years.

Turns out you couldn't buy a win with massive out of state money (2 to 1 advantage), could you.?

And it turns out your slurs and ruthlessness didn't make people cower in fear, did they? People stood up to you. AGAIN.

Now, you know the drill: go find another state to prey on. There are 14 more which you have yet to lose in........

"Because, again, this has little to do with marriage"....

What in the WORLD are you talking about, Sandy??? Huh??!

Hampden must be a hotbed of homosexual-supporting families....Sandi Carve, Ann Sullivan....

Don't seem to recall the No on 1 supporters calling the the beating and killing of homosexuals like some of the Yes on 1 supporters have on these very pages. Please point out the "TRUE hate speech on the part of the NO on 1side"?

------

"Turns out you couldn't buy a win with massive out of state money (2 to 1 advantage), could you.?"

You are correct but the Yes on 1 sure used all that money from a California group to pay for ads on radio, TV and print ads and paid the out of state California campaign manager to run the Maine campaign now didn't they. And they are still in violation of state law for refusing to release the names of the individual donors to the campaign. So while No on 1 used out of state money they were and are in full compliance with state law unlike the Yes on 1 side.

------

"And it turns out your slurs and ruthlessness didn't make people cower in fear, did they? People stood up to you. AGAIN."

"Slurs and ruthlessness". Do you mean by telling people that "gay" marriage would be taught in Maine schools when heterosexual marriage isn't even taught? Oh right, that was the Yes on 1 side telling those lies. You must mean the ruthlessness of that employer in southern Maine that fired that woman for speaking out about same sex marriage? Darn, no that was the Roman Catholic Church that fired an employee for speaking out against Yes on 1. I guess I just do not know what "Slurs and ruthlessness" you are referring to then.

------

"Now, you know the drill: go find another state to prey on. There are 14 more which you have yet to lose in........"

Hmmmm, let's see. 50 states minus 31 = 14? Well 31 + 14 = 45. Seems that you are missing 5 states there reaganite.

------

reaganite it's safe now, you can go back to school. You do not need to worry about all those gay activist teachers teaching you that men can marry men and women can marry women. But you might want to pay more attention in civics, history and math class when you go back to school on Monday.

Women, thinking that their patriotism, war work, and agitation against slavery would be rewarded with the vote after the Civil War, were bitterly disappointed. They soon found that Congress and the public felt that this was "the Negro's Hour," and that citizenship and voting rights for black men were not to be jeopardized by adding something so outrageous as votes for women.

Somehow I thought this applies to today and future days

Thought you might like to read this letter to the editor ~ ever notice how some people just seem to know how to write a letter?..

This one sure does!

This was written by a Canadian woman, but oh how it also applies to the

U.S., U.K. and Australia

THIS ONE PACKS A FIRM PUNCH

Here is a woman who should run for Prime Minister!

Written by a housewife in New Brunswick , to her local newspaper. This is one ticked off lady.

'Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001 and have continually threatened to do so since?

Were people from all over the world, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan , across the Potomac from the nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania ?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?

And I'm supposed to care that a few Taliban were claiming to be tortured by a justice system of the nation they come from and are fighting against in a brutal insurgency.

I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere belief of which is a crime punishable by beheading in Afghanistan .

I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called 'insurgents' in Afghanistan come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques and behind women and children.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blows themselves up in search of

nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.

I'll care when the Canadian media stops pretending that their freedom of speech on stories is more important than the lives of the soldiers on the ground or their families waiting at home to hear about them when something happens.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a CANADIAN soldier roughing up an Insurgent terrorist to obtain information, know this:

I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank:

I don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and 'fed special' food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being 'mishandled,' you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts:

I don't care.

And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled 'Koran' and other times 'Quran.' Well, Jimmy Crack Corn you guessed it,

I don't care!!

If you agree with this viewpoint, pass this on to all your E-mail friends. Sooner or later, it'll get to the people responsible for this ridiculous behavior!

If you don't agree, then by all means hit the delete button. Should you choose the latter, then please don't complain when more atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our great Country! And may I add:

'Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Soldiers don't have that problem.'

I have another quote that I would like to add, AND........I hope you forward all this.

One last thought for the day:

Only five defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

1. Jesus Christ

2. The British Soldier.

3. The Canadian Soldier.

4. The US Soldier, and

5. The Australian Soldier

One died for your soul, the other 4 for your freedom.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO PASS THIS ON, AS MANY SEEM TO FORGET ALL OF THEM.

AMEN!

Sandi, thank you so much for your words. I am filled with anger and hurt over this and I just can't seem to get past it. I can't believe my neighbors that will pitch in a second to help other Mainers in need would choose to treat others than less than. I will post your article at home and work so that I can read your healing words until I can move forward. Thank you.

Somebody on here insults the late President Reagan if he thinks he emulates him!! Reagan would not speak like that , regardless of his stances and policies.

LarrySG : You said it.

HarrySnyder: re 9:08 AM Bingo....it sure is. Their gloating is sure premature and on flimsy ground.

Sandi,

Your letter is honest and brave and commendable. Thank you for writing it and submitting it.

Many blessing to you and your family.

I've read all these posts as I did the much longer listing following the poll whether one was surprised at the result or not. Notwithstanding Kent Ward's rather ridiculous statement that it could never be known which side was responding which way to the question (if he had bothered to read all the posts he should have seen that reasonable conclusions could be drawn), the same thing is true here as with the aforementioned postings. What one finds in these responses is sadness and resolve on the one hand and a very dismissive and deliberate hurtfulness on the other, That capacity for viciousness and the relish with it seems to be delivered is what caused me to finally renounce my baptism of fifty-one years ago. I no longer wish to be identified with anything having to do with catholics and christians whose civic behavior violates the first amendment or renders the precept 'do unto others' an exercise in hypocrisy. Even if it takes as long as it did for blacks and for women, this basic human and civil right to marry will be secured for gays and lesbians. I just hope it is before my gay son and god-daughter leave the scene in another forty years or so.

PS: I would urge readers NOT to use the thumbs up/down click option allowing the hiding of comments individuals disagree with, Anyone who didn't over-ride the hiding would not be able to make sense of analytic comments like mine or JD2008 at 10:40 AM.

hendrikgideonse: Your comments at 12:31 really speak to a lot of us. Actually, I am a heterosexual woman with children and do not have any family members who happen to be homosexual. That changes nothing. I proudly, and strongly, voted NO on 1. I think you really sum up how a lot of us see and respond to many of the postings on the BDN site. It is real "eye-opening" sometimes, and not in a good way.

This WILL eventually go to the Supreme Court of the United States; let's hope it happens before long.

hendrikgideonse: I am not sure I entirely understand what you are saying at 12:42. Are you saying some of your and JD's comments were inaccessible? I don't know what you mean there.

What's next, gun control?

This was a wonderful piece speaking to people who realize change is inevitable. Clearly, there are those who do not feel that way and, hopefully, they can find their way without too much struggle. People are people and their lives are their own. Does this make just cause for judgement by us? I don't believe this is what was intended when God created this. What happened to love, compassion, kindness and all the things people are (so called) trying to teach their children. I understand that this is a difficult subject for a lot of people but is it necessary to make hateful, hurtful comments? Is that the kind of world we want to live in, people? Gay people are not as big and bad as you think. And this vote was about validating and pomoting people who are in stable relationships. I think it's high time we add a little value to the insitution of marriage since people everyday take it with such little seriousness. The priveledge of marriage is abused constantly and gay people in these types of relationships would put back some worth into it and validate the worth that is already present. Discrimination is an ugly thing and everytime you choose to react to something that makes you uncomfortable you're not ready to learn, you're not ready to find the meaning in it all, you're not willing to be the person you want. Please reconsider your hateful, unsympathetic comments as I'm sure under all that you all have something valuable to give. Let's see THAT! I challenge us as a people to be better today, to think about the other guy, to make ourlselves proud of ourselves. Peace to you all.

A lot of non-hating people were sitting on the fence hanging on the word "marriage", wonder what would have happened if it were "union"? Just a thought.

...sob sob sob

Stop trying to redefine the world to conform to your twisted views.

BeaverFood, You CAN be nice, try it...

wow-seems like the no on one folks are out in numbers giving the thumbs down to posts that dont lockstep to their ideas!

Well said Sandi. Religious & other bigots will all see themselves fade in power & importance. I'm sorry you have to endure so much abuse from these faceless cowards who have made comments on your editorial. Keep up the fight & know that you are not alone.

mmccall: They have only shown what kind of people they are, and made a lot of us even prouder of our NO on 1 vote. It is going to change, but like other fights for rights and fairness, sometimes it takes a long time. The day will come though, and I feel sad for people like Sandi who are forced to have to be more "patient".

I hope she did not read some of those remarks, truthfully, but I suppose she has heard it all before, and worse. Unreal.

raeganite, hottamale, YES_ON_1, firefly, David889327. Why are your valid posts being "thumbed down" by these "NO" voters? Please keep posting. They need to continuously be reminded that Maine voted for morality. And I, for one, will never let them forget it. Morality will prevail no matter how many times we have to vote on it. Also, as a reminder to all, this post board is open to all views, whether you agree with them or not. Would the "No On 1 Camp" like to include censorship in the next vote? I don't think so.

Boo hoo good thing i keep extra tissues in my office , this makes me wanna cry. Not really but its funny. Get over it ya all, the great state of Maine appealed the new law. It is done gone for good

I always find it funny that some people automatically assume that the No on 1 side thumbs comments down. I will admit that I have when I find the comments to be rude and at times violent. But otherwise I leave them alone. It's also funny that the Yes on 1 seems to be self righteous when it comes to being open to divergent opinions. I have had many posts thumbed down so MaineSurvivor2, who do you think is doing that?

You must have the most successful business in Maine Coronadrinker as it seems that you are always in the office!

You ever thought that im at home in my office, most people do have offices at home too, i mean you tell me you dont. Hmm doubt it, And again Jd, like i said its over with the supreme court isnt gonna do a darn thing. But i heard through the grapevine that the spoke person for The No side is gonna be Grandma Chersully, since she is the one that knows it all. Maybe they will pay her two million dollars to campaign for them. Just a wondering here while i set and still laugh the No side lost!!!!!!!

JD: re 5:59 That is so funny.

And yes......I hardly ever thumb down anyone (and I also voted NO on 1). These people who complain about that are probably the offenders themselves!

And the self-righteous tone of some......they may be surprised sometime......that can come back to , you know what. Also, as we know, this is not gone for good at all!!

Remember the Massachusetts Supreme Court settled the questions as a matter of law. There is no logical reason to expect the U.S. Supreme Court would do anything differently under the 14th Amendment Coronadrinker. The peoples vote in California is on its way to the California Supreme Court and the Texas ban on same sex marriage is also being reviewed by the Texas court system. One day, it will be settled by the US Supreme Court Coronadrinker and you just may need to move up to a better brand of beer to handle the decision.

JD: Do you recall that poster mainer72?Was posting so much, and then just "disappeared"! Very odd....He must miss addressing the comments to me as he always did (even though I had no interest in that poster....very odd....)

By the way chersully several people on here dont like you, your totally wrong on your posts. Have a good life and good night, and oh say hi to Karenlite for me LOL

I have no sympathy at all for the lesbian who wwrote this and wish, since Nov 3 has passed, that you would all move on to some other cause. you lost, its ova, either shut up or move away.

OK Coronadrinker ;) and what "article" would that be? I already know how you will respond...."go find it for yourself!"....so I doubt he/she/it has posted on another thread at all.

And as the homosexual community in Maine pays taxes, etc...why should the move coastalblogger? Are you prepared to pay more in taxes if each and every homosexual moved from the state of Maine?

ya know what JD? if you promise to leave , ill pay yes. thats how much we dislike you here in Maine

Lol coastalblogger, she is the uptight snooty type. And no Jd im done with it all, its not gonna happen. Its not gonna be in Maine . If the gays wanna marry each other, get the heck out of Maine. Please you all just drop it, its been repealed its done over with. And i would luv to pay more taxes. Pay enough now why not

Hold on Coastal, Jd is not gay LOL. He or she is just for gay marraige. I totally think its nasty in all shapes and forms.

JD: Isn't that telling....I was addressing a remark to you about a "past" poster, and in less than 10 mins that poster drinker of coronna pipes up? Odd, he was so interested...LOL.

JD: Another new poster who sounds so intelligent... I could tell you something about that new poster, but you can figure it out. Thankfully, there are some posters who are valid......TheTruth, ElectraGlide, WilliamDS, MaineAc, you, etc etc. You can sure tell the difference.

JD: Oh good.....looks like we won't be addressed by coronndrunk/coastal anymore ... since they would not want to have anything to do with a "snooty" type. And "have a good life."etc. LOL.

Troll: Oh good.....bye bye now. Your cave is beckoning.

And maybe you should take the time to learn some proper English; how to use contractions, etc. (something grade school children learn.) Ta ta.....

It is exactly people like you coastalblogger that brings out the worst in people. See, while might like to think so this state does not belong to you. It belongs to you, me, chersully, the heterosexual community, the gay community, and everyone else that pays taxes.

And it is not done, not by a long shot. The MCCL has planes to repeal the protections afforded the gay community in the Maine Civil Rights Act. They also want to make civil unions against the law and other measures to further make the gay community not just a second class citizen but a third class citizen.

So while I have been married for 20+ years to a women (opposite sex coastalblogger since you are soooo interested) I do support and will support the gay community.

Stay turned children....it is only going to get worse before it gets better.

thump thump thump,

listen up people, (especially you "no on one" people)

this is over in the state of Maine, we told you how we feel.

you need to listen.

something I know is very hard for you to do.

we'll vote you down again should it come to that.

now be gone, evil antagonists, and leave us to our traditional family lives!!!

YOU GO YES ON 1. BUT DID YOU HEAR THAT THEY ARE TAKING US TO SUPREME COURT AND GONNA BE ABLE TO GET MARRIED IN MAINE. ISNT THAT A CRACK OF A JOKE IF I EVER HEARD IT. ITS GOING BEFORE VOTERS IN MASSACHUSETS LAST I HEARD ITS HURTING THEM DOWN THERE.OR UP THERE LOL

Ha ha ha ha ha...."ITS GOING BEFORE VOTERS IN MASSACHUSETS LAST I HEARD" Coronadrinker? Oh have another one you who knows all. In Massachusetts the Great and General Court (that would be the Massachusetts Legislature) has to send it to the voters. The "peoples veto" does not exist in Massachusetts. I haven't laughed so hard in ages....almost spit out my Dog Fish Head Pumkin' Ale....that's a real beer Coronadrinker, you should try one!

JD: Ever heard so many lies from "one person" in your life? He must be half zonked. He really thinks anyone takes him seriously on here!!!

Sandi and others: You can take heart, if you read the comments here, that the ignorance of many on the YES side will not prevail one of these days. It never does. That is something to remember. People , for the most part, become more enlightened and come to see what is true, rather than think like some of the insulting, ignorant posters here reflect. Who would ever want to be on that side? Fairness, dignity and justice will prevail one day soon.

chersully(?)

you couldn't be more wrong.

I knew you would not be able to accept the vote.

all the ethics you've been preaching about here for months and you can't even accept the vote for what it is.

the term hypocrite comes to mind fairly quickly. it suits you and others on the "no" side.

the resident H.A. continues to enjoy full reign with no contenders in sight.................for miles!!

you lost, we won. deal with it.

get over yourself.

There is no reason why anyone needs to accept Tuesdays vote. The battle and struggle will continue regardless of your belief otherwise.

YES_ON_1: You could not be more wrong. And really....you should not be so concerned with what I say. I am not interested in your rants.

JD:

"Get over yourself." I recall hearing that from a poster who has "gone" now. They don't even have any originality. They will see as time goes on, that this is not over. Maine is not the only state, for one thing. And then when it goes to the U. S. Supreme Court, as it inevitably will......well.......

Peoples' lives were affected, many with children. And all these "nice" people can do is continue to be nasty and talk of it in terms of a contest. Very telling....very......nobody really "won" anything.....and it is not over. Time will show that.

Jd, im not in the mood for you or chersully anymore. You are her are the most two ignornat posters i have ever met. You dont like me, i dont like you two. Chersully is also karenlite. But hey im out of here for the night. Good night to all my sweet little gays

Yes Coronadrinker you do lie over and over just like the yes on 1 campaign....tell me did you teach them to lie or did they teach you? Or do you just come by it naturally?

Sweet dreams Coronadrinker....don't forget to have a night cap!

Yes on 1, they are jealous because we can marry each other because were not gay. But hey the No on side lied over and over.

they continue to lie.

it's difficult not to, when you whole life is one big lie!!

I'm happy I'm not living a lie.

the truth was revealed last week.

mainers don't want anything to do with same sex marriage. and I suspect they don't really want anything to do with gay people in general.

i would not be surprised if a constitutional ammendment is proposed for this great state.

I would gladly support that.

Thanks, Sandi, for reminding me what this issue is really all about.

Great comments too, people, keep it up, on both sides - at this rate same-sex marraige is sure to pass next time !

In the year 342 the Christian emperors Constantius and Constans declared same-sex marriage to be illegal.

[ Contrary to what people here have been saying for months, it wasn't unknown OR illegal prior to this - so much for the assertions about "Traditional Marriage" ]

In the year 390, Christian emperors Valentinian II, Theodosius I and Arcadius declared homosexual sex to be illegal, those who were found guilty of it were condemned to be publicly burned alive.

[ Yet another shining example of 'Christian Love" ]

The Christian emperor Justinian I (527-565) made homosexuals a scapegoat for problems such as "famines, earthquakes, and pestilences."

[ oh how little things have changed ! ]

Shame On Maine.

I know................you are much more intelligent than any emperor.

how do you think they got to be emperors? being idiots?

you sir (and I use that term lightly) are the idiot!!

Plain and simple.

Interesting how the yes people quote the bible and then spew out such hatred. The bible can justify anything.

I am extremely ASHAMED of my fellow Mainers who are so cruel and heartless. But then again it comes from no other place then downright IGNORANCE. As more Mainers become COLLEGE EDUCATED...this will come to pass. Just got to weed out some of the people coming from a place of hate because of their COMPLETE IGNORANCE!

There was an interesting article in the Maine Sunday Telegram yesterday. In Portland the vote was overwhelmingly "No" on 1. The observation was made that Portland is a fairly cosmopolitan (and educated) city these days, where people are living near, working with, and every day seeing other people who are "different." When you actually know or work with someone who is "different," you are much more likely to view that person as someone you like--as someone like you. I'm guessing that many of those in the rural areas of Maine who voted overwhelmingly "Yes" on 1 have had no--or limited--exposure to people they perceive to be "not like them." I'm guessing also that the majority are older and probably have not had the opportunity for higher education. I'm confident that the "younger" generation (of which I am unfortunately not a part) will be increasingly better educated, more willing to embrace people who are not like them, and more open to change.

Sandi--keep the faith. We're in this with you and eventually, civil rights will be available to all.

Heck, them hicks in the YES areas probly never even seen a tv before, but they seen people who are different - thats for shore

"probly", "shore", "seen", Who's the hick? : ) only 4 out of 16 counties went for NO,

and 0 - 31 nationally speaks volumns. Hicks or not we accomplished what was needed.

Paperreader: re 11:42 AM Well-stated and factual. It will happen one day.....and some people will probably be quite surprised, but it will happen.

Fairness and justice for rights for a minority are often hard-won in this country, but ultimately it will happen.

makepeace-where did you get this post name? it should have something to do with evil, because that's what you are doing.

I would love to know what comments you are referring to in your 11/10 9:20 post, regarding student comments.., if you are referring to the comments made by Ann Sullivan in her complaint to the state licensing department....look again, her complaints were anonymous, undocumented, and probably a figment of her imagination as she doesnt even work with this man and should have no idea about what goes on in his workday and who he sees.....since she works for the hubsnd of Sherry Gould (Randy Gould) who made the no on one ad, makes u wonder.....

.I don't think social workers give up their first amendement rights of free speech in a political arena.....since he has never had a complaint filed against him by students and families he works with...only by someone who disagrees with his political viewpoint...makes u wonder even more

and for you to continute spewing hated and lies, distortions after the election is done with...makes me wonder more where you are coming from!
