Acadia awaits funding news

ACADIA NATIONAL PARK, Maine — The National Park Service is getting more money for 2010 than it did for this year, but what that might mean for funding for Acadia National Park is not yet known.

Last week, President Barack Obama signed an appropriations bill that set an NPS budget of $2.7 billion for next year.

Len Bobinchock, Acadia’s deputy superintendent, said Friday that this figure is higher than the amount budgeted for NPS in 2009. But he said Acadia officials aren’t expected to know what their budget is for the 2010 fiscal year for several more weeks.

“I think we’re feeling upbeat about it,” Bobinchock said. “I think, if anything, we’re looking at an increase.”

The $2.7 billion allocation for NPS is about $218 million more than the 2009 funding level, according to a press release from the National Parks Conservation Association. Park operations in 2010 will receive about $130 million more than in 2009, the release indicated.

The NPS should do the right thing for our country and economy and decline the $130 million increase in funding. How can they be so gleeful about recieving money that the US budget can not afford? When are we going to begin getting serious and realistic about the state of our economy? Santa Obama has to STOP spending our money.

.

PS Didn't Acadia also recieve federal "stimulus" money as well?

good than the park should have plenty to invest in big friggin signs that warn people, when their at the park on storm days, thunder hole definetly needs one, otter cliffs, and there should be life rings close and handy at these places also, learn a lesson park employees, and make the park safer so we dont loose anyone else!!!! especially the numb tourists who everdently need signs!!!

Whatever happened to the concepts of "common sense" and "personal responsibility?" I'm sick and tired of wasting money on vain attempts at protecting idiots from themselves.
