A 24-year-old Hampden man will be on funeral detail this week in the aftermath of the shooting rampage Thursday in Fort Hood, Texas, in which 13 people have died and 38 more were injured.

Cindy Boudreau of Hampden said her son Spc. Travis Boudreau, a 2004 Hampden Academy graduate stationed at Fort Hood who works as a mechanic in a motor pool on the base, told her he will help send bodies of the dead back to their hometowns in the coming days.

“He does funeral detail as extra duty, and he’s proud to do it,” Cindy Boudreau said Friday afternoon. “He called this morning that they will be transporting the bodies on an airplane to be transported home.”

Thursday’s incident made for a few harrowing hours for Cindy Boudreau after she received a text message from Travis Boudreau, who was working just four blocks from the shootings.

“It was just horrendous,” she said of the approximately 7½ hours her son was in lockdown, with the shades drawn, on the Army base. “It was scary, it was confusing. … I was sitting on pins and needles for a long time.”

An investigation into the shooting deaths is continuing and President Barack Obama ordered flags to be flown at half-staff until Veterans Day, which is Wednesday.

The suspected shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, remained hospitalized Friday in a coma, attached to a ventilator. The Army psychiatrist was shot four times after the rampage began around 1:30 p.m. local time.

Cindy Boudreau said she was hunting Thursday behind her house on Fowlers Landing Road when she received a text message from her son that a gunman at Fort Hood had killed seven and wounded 10 — those numbers would climb later in the afternoon — and that the base was in lockdown.

After reading the message she returned home to watch television news for the rest of the day, sending text messages back and forth with her son.

She declined to reveal what Boudreau knew of or thought of the shootings because of the investigation.

After the lockdown ended Thursday and people were allowed to leave the base, it took Travis Boudreau about 1½ hours to drive the four miles home because of all the traffic. He talked to his mother on a cell phone during the ride, she said.

“I was one of the fortunate people to get a call, a good call,” Cindy Boudreau said. “My thoughts now go out to families that lost their loved ones.”

For the mother, it was a more nerve-wracking time than her son’s deployment to Afghanistan two years ago.

“There, you’re at war and you expect it,” said Cindy Boudreau, who added she coincidentally received on Thursday a Thanksgiving flower bouquet from Travis, who is staying in Texas for the holiday. “Here, you don’t. You don’t even think of something like this happening on a military base.”

Ms. Boudreau it must have been a great relief to hear from your son and confirm that he was not directly involved in this terrible tragedy.....please thank him for serving our country, pass on sincere condolences to him and fellow soldiers and let him know that America is praying for Fort Hood esp. the families of those who have suffered loss and injury thru this unfortunate event.....God Bless Fort Hood and all of the soldiers and families there....

He said he didn't believe in the war and he was in the Army? The Muslim faith is certainly not a positive thing for America. Makes you wonder.

LOVE PEOPLE AND USE THINGS - NOT LOVE THINGS AND USE PEOPLE.

Thought you might like to read this letter to the editor ~ ever notice how some people just seem to know how to write a letter?..

This one sure does!

This was written by a Canadian woman, but oh how it also applies to the

U.S., U.K. and Australia

THIS ONE PACKS A FIRM PUNCH

Here is a woman who should run for Prime Minister!

Written by a housewife in New Brunswick , to her local newspaper. This is one ticked off lady.

'Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001 and have continually threatened to do so since?

Were people from all over the world, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan , across the Potomac from the nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania ?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?

And I'm supposed to care that a few Taliban were claiming to be tortured by a justice system of the nation they come from and are fighting against in a brutal insurgency.

I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere belief of which is a crime punishable by beheading in Afghanistan .

I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called 'insurgents' in Afghanistan come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques and behind women and children.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blows themselves up in search of

nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.

I'll care when the Canadian media stops pretending that their freedom of speech on stories is more important than the lives of the soldiers on the ground or their families waiting at home to hear about them when something happens.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a CANADIAN soldier roughing up an Insurgent terrorist to obtain information, know this:

I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank:

I don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and 'fed special' food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being 'mishandled,' you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts:

I don't care.

And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled 'Koran' and other times 'Quran.' Well, Jimmy Crack Corn you guessed it,

I don't care!!

If you agree with this viewpoint, pass this on to all your E-mail friends. Sooner or later, it'll get to the people responsible for this ridiculous behavior!

If you don't agree, then by all means hit the delete button. Should you choose the latter, then please don't complain when more atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our great Country! And may I add:

'Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Soldiers don't have that problem.'

I have another quote that I would like to add, AND........I hope you forward all this.

One last thought for the day:

Only five defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

1. Jesus Christ

2. The British Soldier.

3. The Canadian Soldier.

4. The US Soldier, and

5. The Australian Soldier

One died for your soul, the other 4 for your freedom.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO PASS THIS ON, AS MANY SEEM TO FORGET ALL OF THEM.

AMEN!

Thank you for sharing that Electra! That was great!

The guy was running around shooting people yelling ALLAH IS GREAT! IN ARABIC. This is a homegrown muslim terrorist act. You will not see it reported this way, because the infection of politically correctness and liberalism on the media will not allow people to factually report stories and practice true journalism. If this were a white male, they would be reporting this as an act based on wacky christian beliefs. but since its a muslim man, they will just say it was a emotionally distressed person who was fed up with the war and who was under alot of stress. by the way, he hadn't fought before in war, so to say he had PTSD is unfactual.

Maybe long-forgotten are American hostages, American Embassy bombings, mass killing of US soldiers and citizens in other bombings and attacks around the world, the USS Cole attack, Lockerbie 747 downing, federal building in Arkansas bombing, the murder of Robert Kennedy by Sirhan-Sirhan (Palestinian), and more...and we seem to continually raise hell about it at the time, and do nothing afterwards except to send smiling political faces with continual handshakes to the country of perpetrators and then get kicked out for being there.

Thanks, ElectraGlide for publishing the Canadian lady's letter. The BDN may be asleep at the wheel for not incorporating this one into an article, but we do not really want to upset things, do we? The unfortunate part about this Muslim-Islamic deal is that there are millions of honest, law-abiding, appropriate and productive Muslims the world over who contribute greatly to American (and other) societies in may ways. Unfortunately, we hear about the scum in any culture too much.

By the way, Specialist Boudreau...your family and more are proud of your duty. Thank you!

It amazes me that people are trying to twist this tragedy into an act of terrorism by a Muslim. This was a mass killing by a US born American Soldier who happened to be Muslim. Being in the military I have seen other Soldiers just like him who were christian. They didn't believe in the war in Iraq or Afghanistan and did want to deploy and kill other people. I had one kid who was in my unit that simply went AWOL. This guy just chose a horrible way to try and end it. He should have just killed himself.

This *!&^#% was an officer! I am shocked.

How soon we forget:

There are documented cases of at least 230 American officers killed by their own troops, and as many as 1,400 other officers' deaths could not be explained called fragging. Fragging most often involved the murder of a commanding officer (C.O.) or a senior noncommissioned officer[citation needed] perceived as unpopular, harsh, inept, or overzealous.

This was in Nam, I should have stated.

why do people want to call him a home grown terroist, his faith is muslium, this is not home grown by any means, we also need to understand that as a muslium, he has a faith which runs deeper then most can understand, Islam dose not look at the rest of the world as we do, to them we are a threat to all they believe love, NOT SAYING this is right only to to conveay that when they are asked to choose between thair religon and our way of life, the QURAN will always win, that being said, political correctness is there ali and they use it as a cover like camofloige, I seem to rember tha in the 1950's and 1960's if a black person was harmed or killed the FBI went looking for WHITE SOUTHERN MEN with strong community tie's, and yes this was profiling, and gusse what it works!!! And i seem to also recall that after the first attack on this country by another, we imprisoned thousands of american born Japenisse until we could sourt it out, AND IT WORKED!!! I am not saying to lock all muslims up but why would we put them in a position where they would have to choose America or Isliam, you would'nt put a thief on the register???

When this guy stood up and shouted "allah is great" and started shooting americans, he put himself in the catagory of Ilslamist terrorist.

It's obvious this guy was a NUT and his actions had nothing to do with Muslim and nothing to do with being born an American. Americans and Muslims will both agree.

Thank you Milltown, it's the person not the faith. Why is it religion is brought into it, does anyone no the religion that the nut case was that bombed the OK City courthouse? If he had been Muslim we would have heard about it. So many narrow minded people.

In this case and many other cases, not all mind you, does have to do with radical islam. That to me is based on a radical interpretation of a religion which many muslims practice that are trying to kill us. It is not a matter of being simple minded, it is a matter of being honest about what is happening around us and the world based on what we are told by the real nutcases about their religion. I don't feel I am beaing narrow-minded when I hear a muslim who has been known to speak with the same radical words as the religious zealots who are trying to destroy based on what they claim their religion states, pulls out 2 guns, jumps on a table and begins spraying a room with unarmed people shouting allah is great. Why wouldn't a narrow minded person see this as anything but another terrorist suicide bomber with bullets instead of a bomb? What should us narrow-minded people think? That he was an Irishman who didn't get his morning dose of Guiness?

I am in Texas and the news here is reportimg that he has been in trouble several times over his deployment. Also, in the week before, he had given away all his worldly goods, The way it is reported here, he was planning this for some time. All this and they are keeping him alive on a ventalator and he is paralyzed. The VA will have to support him if he survives. I think the should let him die. Also kudos to the female police officer for her quick thinking.
