Gardiner to face Hornets in final; Brunswick advances to Class A final

TURNER CENTER, Maine — Josh Strickland rushed for 265 yards and scored a touchdown as the top-seeded Leavitt Hornets defeated the No. 4 Hampden Academy Broncos 35-7 in an Eastern Maine Class B football semifinal Friday night.

Eric Theiss scored on 3- and 9-yard rushes in the first half for Leavitt. Jordan Hersom added two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter.

Strickland scored on an 84-yard run in the second quarter. He totaled 22 carries.

The Broncos tied it early on a 3-yard rush by fullback Michael Jenkins. He recorded 41 yards on eight carries.

Gardiner 20, Morse 13

At Bath, Forrest Chadwick scored three touchdowns as No. 3 Gardiner edged defending Eastern Maine champion Morse, the No. 2 seed.

Chadwick scored on a 4-yard run and a 45-yard interception return in the second quarter and a 28-yard third-quarter run.

Morse, which had defeated Gardiner 7-0 in Week 2 of the regular season, took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter of the rematch on a 51-yard pass from Mike Walton to Everett Moye.

The Shipbuilders scored their final touchdown on a 1-yard run by Walton in the third quarter.

Brunswick 27, Lawrence 14

At Fairfield, third-seeded Brunswick scored 20 unanswered points to knock No. 2 Lawrence out of the playoffs in the semifinal round for the second straight year.

Stefan Jensen scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter, and after a Rashon Edgerton extra-point kick, Brunswick tied it at 14-14.

Jensen gave the Dragons the lead by completing a 23-yard pass to Edgerton in the third quarter. Edgerton added some insurance with a 43-yard scoring pass to Dylan Walton in the fourth.

Edgerton first put Brunswick on the board with a 13-yard run in the first period.

Lawrence’s Bobby Belanger completed a 5-yard pass to Mark Yandian for a second-quarter touchdown. Christian Powers added a 16-yard scoring run to give Lawrence a 14-7 lead.
