Perry woman charged with assault after fight

PEMBROKE, Maine — A verbal argument between a brother and sister escalated Saturday morning until the sister allegedly punched and head-butted the brother.

Dina Francis, 27, of Perry, was charged with assault and criminal mischief by Maine State Trooper Miles Carpenter.

The duo were in the back seat of a friend’s car, Carpenter said, when they began arguing about 8:30 a.m. Somewhere between Indian Township and Pembroke the driver stopped the car, the victim got out and then got back in, and the argument continued.

By the time the car reached the Mobil station in Pembroke, the verbal fight had turned violent. Once through with her brother, Francis allegedly threw several bottles at the windshield of the car, breaking it.

Initial reports indicated that a rifle may have been involved and that someone attempted to run the victim over with the car, but Carpenter said those allegations were untrue.

Carpenter was assisted at the scene by the Pleasant Point Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

Carpenter said alcohol consumption was involved.

"Carpenter said alcohol consumption was involved."

Why doesn't this surprise me?

What were they doing in the back seat?

Talk about keeping it in the family...

Maybe electraglide will tell his funny joke again here......

Maybe he was the brother....

Let's git it on..........:-)

I'ts no wonder there are no movie theaters left in Washington County, How could they provide better entertainment than this? ...and it's free!

This is precisely the reason why people from away, believe that folks from Maine, are ignorant and dumb. They hear the negative side of what goes on in Maine, and generally these people ARE ignorant and dumb when they're drinking... just like folks in any other state.

You believe natives are the only folks who behave like this? Obviously you never canoed on the Saco.

You people are sick. Maybe they were both in the back seat because the front seat was taken...?? Generally people just don't attack someone, drinking or not, without reason, perhaps she had one. I happen to know of Dina, and this does not seem to be her nature at all. There is more to this story I am sure. Stop being so judgmental, and nasty.

does anyone know her brothers name?

hope her brother isnt half white or something he could turn this around to be a hate crime...oh wait they dont work like that- hate crimes are only commited Against indians not By them. Duh.

8:30 am-An allnighter I guess.

dont be a dork....

Probably fighting over who was going to buy the next jug of coffee brandy!!!

one of them wanted to skimp and buy something even cheaper than Allen's Coffee Brandy, this offended the other and the fighting ensued. end of story.

but is it possible to buy anything cheaper than Allen's??

Those two are idiots...And yes michaelmacarthur, There is a "generic" brand of coffee brandy.. I don't know it's name but it's around.

I thought Allen's was the generic brand of coffe brandy. Oh well at least there is some good from drinking it...the milk is good for what's left of your teeth.

Is it Gold Crown coffee brandy your trying to think of?

They are siblings....and siblings fight all the time. I have adult kids, none of which drink or use any substances and they've had some physical brawls before. The worst physical brawl they had was between my 23 year old daughter and 19 year old son. They are both college students, employed and very responsible, good kids. Oh...and my kids are white, too. It is NORMAL for siblings to fight. Two of my sisters are in their 50's and even they still fight sometimes.

The native american stereotypes and rude comments on this site are ridiculous. I know quite a few people from Sipayik (Pleasant Point) and they are the nicest, most hard working and family oriented people you'll ever find.

Centaurmyst: Do your sisters physically fight at age 50? I thought "climbing fools' hill "stopped at about 23yrs/old for women and 26 yrs/oldfor men. Shows how wrong I was! Do you try to stop them or just watch? I come from a huge (in number) and when we were children we acted as children when we grew up we acted as adults.

I am not trying to insult you in any way but maybe you could further explain.

I do think some of the comments on this post are harsh, rude and unnecessary

Some of these comments are just par for the course on this site!

They don't have physical fights anymore...but they had their last one when their kids were in their early teens. And a few years before that my 3rd sister and I nearly got the living crap kicked out of us trying to break them up once...and they BOTH had a child then. As for my kids...it doesn't happen often, but once every couple of years one of them will REALLY make one of the other kids mad and it can escalate to blows. If I'm there, of course I step in and stop it. Our family is completely normal, too. Not all families are free of problems, though, and those problems aren't exclusive to any one group. Bashing on native americans as happens so often here is just plain stupid.

Intolerance for any race or creed is unacceptable.

Seriously Centaurmyst, you really think that it's normal and healthy for grown adults to have physical fights just because they're siblings? You mention they have done it after they have children, did your parents do the same in front of them as children? It is not healthy to not be able to manage your anger and emotions enough to restrain from a physical altercation with someone. Just because it's "normal" in your family, doesn't make it healthy. I do know these people and it doesn't surprise me a bit, the parents engage in domestic violence repeatedly, the kids have grown up exposed to this and all have substance abuse issues. They didn't give the brothers name, but the brother I know has a violent and lengthy criminal history, spending much of his adult life in prison. i'm not about to say that it's because they are native american, I believe it's because of their upbringing, which includes the substance abuse.

Maybe they were married?

No anonymous...my parents never had physical fights. My two older sisters were just very jealous of each other and their personalities clashed. When they were adults the times they got into physical fights it was over their children. The last one when their kids were older was because their kids got into a physical altercation and both were being protective over their own children and blamed the other's child. Mom's are naturally protective of their kids and they already had conflicts between them anyway. They get along fine now, and when they do fight it's either verbal or they give each other the silent treatment. Both of them have very successful careers and marriages and have raised children to be adults who are also very successful and well adjusted. This wasn't a regular occurrence, either. As I said...they would have a physical fight once in a great while. There has only been two since they were adults that I'm aware of and witnessed.

Regardless of the history of the siblings in this case...none of us know WHY they got into a fight. Is it good to get into a brawl? Of course not. Does it happen in families from all walks of life? Yes, it does. I've known lots of white families with far worse behavior than what is reported in this article. I'm sure you do too.

Centaurmyst Is on target with the assertion that this sort of thing happens in all walks of life. Alchohol affects all races of humanity. Most often humans don't act out this badly but when they do we all get to sit here on the sidelines and look in on their behavior.

To those people who so dearly love to sit on message boards and critique everything and everyone with innuendo and more often blatent racist garbage. I have just one thing to say. Your welcome!!

Your right to free speech is protected although your comments can be removed or hidden by the boards monitors. Thank a Veteran for that, if you care to be grateful. Even better Thank a tribal elder for sharing this wonderful land with us. Tell them how great it is that their ancestors decided to be hospitable. Given that this is the season of thanksgiving and all... Oh wait thats not your style at all.. What the hell was I thinking, ignorance, intolerance, and bigotry. Those are your watchwords, your defense against anyone looking to closely at you and your perfect life and flawless character.... Bored now....

Taltos...unfortunately there is a huge lack of trust between native americans and white people in Maine...and all over the country, really. It's really unfortunate because we all really do care about the same things most of the time. We all love our children and families. We all care about education, good health care, being able to provide for ourselves and our loved ones. We're ALL impacted by the ills of society like substance abuse, crime and violence. Until we all learn to work together as partners on this earth (this is all people from all cultures, races, socio-economic backgrounds, etc) I don't think we're going to get very far trying to fix the problems alone. I guess it's true that people feel more comfortable with people who look like themselves, but sometimes trying things that make you feel a little less comfortable is good for the soul and goes a very long way in helping gain wisdom. I hope the young people in this article find the strength and guidance to move past whatever they are struggling with and I hope there are plenty of people out there who are willing to offer that guidance simply because it's the right thing to do and it helps EVERYONE when you help just one person and touch their lives. Lord knows we could all use a little more kindness in this world.

I teach a class about racism in Maine. I collect comments like the ones above just to show my students that there pleanty of people who hide under the cover of not being known so that they can spurt out their recist gut. Yes, we can say that we have freedom of speech but why not do it in a public debate. My students learn a lot by peiple such as your selves. Keep up the remarks, I need them so that we can together pray for you all. Someday, we will all stand befor God and will have to account for who and WHAT we are. May you find his mercy. We are all equal once we take that last breath on our way to where ever. good luck.

Hey mike maccarther you and your kin know about brandy, what right do you have %hitting on native people. You will get your trust me.

Is that you teach a class about "Racism in Maine" or a class about "racism" in Maine? While I agree with the gist of your post, kciskicin, you should teach your students that they will be judged by the quality of their writing.
