2nd Maine firefighter charged with arson

By The Associated Press

GREENWOOD, Maine — A volunteer firefighter has been charged with arson in connection with overnight fires that destroyed two vacant houses in western Maine.

The state fire marshal says 28-year-old Jeffrey A. Tyler of Bethel was charged with two counts of arson on Tuesday.

Investigators say the volunteer firefighter with the Greenwood department set fire to the back of one of the buildings in Locke Mills early Tuesday morning. The fire then spread to an adjacent house.

It’s the second arrest of a Maine firefighter for arson in a matter of days.

Timothy MacFarline, 23, of Easton, faces charges for the Friday night fire that burned down the Northeast Packaging Co. storage warehouse in Presque Isle.
