Man claiming to be held captive charged with filing false report

From staff reports

BANGOR, Maine — Daniel Chute, 19, of Raymond and Old Town, was charged with filing a false public report or alarm and failure to give correct name and address Friday night after Bangor Police were alerted that he allegedly was being held captive in a car in a parking lot off Stillwater Avenue.

Bangor Police were told that Chute’s “captors” were demanding “several hundred dollars to be wired to them, and if they didn’t get the money, they would shoot him,” according to a police press release issued Saturday.

Police said that with the aid of a cell phone company in Florida, they were able to locate Chute after about two hours by “pinging” the location of the phone he was using. Police found Chute in a car with a male and a female, whose identities police did not release, in a parking lot off Springer Driver.

The hoax, which began about 7 p.m., involved the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, Bangor Police Department, and the AT&T National Compliance Center in Florida, the release said.

Oooooooo, this guy's gonna pay; and even his two accomplices may not get off the hook, either! This could have been federal offense, and I think it lies in that category.

can ya hear me now ,,lol

The plan was foolproof right? Obviously this guy is a genius!
