Did Sens. Snowe and Collins cast the right vote?

Both Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins joined their Republican colleagues and voted against bringing the Senate health care bill to the floor for debate. Was this the right move? Is the current bill the best hope of reversing the climbing costs of health care? Or

is the bill less than the "half a loaf" Democrats hoped for? Or are Republicans right in asserting that it will raise the cost of health insurance for many middle-income Americans? More key votes will follow in the coming weeks; how should Maine's senators vote?

Yes. Absolutely, they were correct. No one yet has defined "health" or "health care", but the wail of the Left is that "healthcare" is a right. No one has told us why health care (whatever it is) is expensive. That analysis hasn't been done. When we know that, then we can address the issue of the rising costs of health care. Democrats blame greedy insurance companies which is infantile nonsense. Insurance companies are highly regulated and they conform to the laws of the states where they sell policies. Their profits are actually much lower than most corporations. In my opinion, Democrats in Congress and President Obama simply want to control the way we live. Insurance companies are the scapegoats. It's that simple. The price we'll pay with the enactment of nationalization of the health care industry is both loss of personal freedom and,an infinite addition to our already huge national debt. We simply don't have enough money in this country to fund everything. "Give me what I want and make somebody else pay for it," sadly is becoming the American way of life.

"....voted against bringing the Senate health care bill to the floor for debate."

This vote was not about "health care" it was about "debating" the issue. It would seem to me (and I'm not a professional politician, so maybe I'm incorrect) that a "debate" is the place to point out flaws, make constructive changes, and get something done right. I voted for both Snowe, and Collins, and I will most likely vote for them again, BUT on this one vote, I have serious questions.

I must add that the poster above claims we have become a culture of "Give me what I want and make someone else pay for it" I would suggest that this has been the case for a long long time. The change we are talking about today is to change the "who" that has paid our insurance premiums up till now. Under our new system of "global trade" employers in the USA are no longer going to be able to foot the bill for worker's health care costs. The choice is a "co-op" style health service insurance provider, or individuals paying full costs themselves. I know of few people who can afford to pay full freight for their families health care insurance plans.

They certainly were right , This TIme, as the bill in its present state will increase taxes on everybody, and will tax people for Perscriptions medical equipment and medical insurance. These taxes, contrary to what they want us to believe will be paid by everyone! Further it will decrease Medicare on those most inneed of assistance, and create a decrease in services, just what they want to deny. This will, however, provide Landreau, the Senator from Lousiana 300 million to take back to her constituents, just to bribe her for her vote! This 300 million will be paid by all of us! The bill also conceals other Senators and Congressmen funding for their states to keep them on board. MORE PORK BARRELL SPENDING IN THE NAME OF BRIBERY!

BOY DON'T WE HAVE A GREAT GOERNMENT IN WASHINGTON!!

They were right to register their concerns about the Health Care Bill by voting against it.

1) Medicare is ALREADY our national health care. If Maine's Medicare is the second lowest in the nation what does this say about government run health care?

2) So President Obama already has discussed several ways to ease Maine's burden, such as "increasing Maine's reimbursement rate to match Boston's...." Where does Medicare money come from? The taxpayers of the United States. That's US!!! It's taking more money out of our pockets to pay us back less money. To "offer" something like this is a slight of hand... How many people are going to think this will work?

3) Maine teachers: Does it worry you that you may be taxed $1,000 on your current Health Care as suggested in Tuesday's front page article?

I admire Sen. Snowe and Sen. Collins and I'm guessing that they are betting that the money from the Republican National Committee and the insurers will buy more votes than they will lose by not supporting the best health care bill that our nation can presently afford. Time will tell!

The pharmaceutical and insurance companies are spending more than $1,000,000 a day in Washington trying to persuade our senators and congressmen to protect their cash cow. Senators Snowe and Collins votes to not debate the issue shows that this money is being well spent. We the people should be irate. We should be demanding a lot more than debate about health care. Given the poll numbers, I would say our representatives are not representing us but rather are representing those that give them the most money.

The infamous "Louisiana Purchase" clause in Sen. Reid's bill that directly channels $300 million to Lousiaina as a barefisted payoff for "fencestiitter" Sen. Landrieu's (D- LA) vote should have disqualified this bill from debate in the minds of every Senator, not just the Republican ones.

This bill should be scrapped and begun anew in a true bipartisan fashion as promised by Mr. Obama in his camapign.

At least the money didn't go to Sen. Landriea's campaign fund. Maybe they'll make the levees bigger.
