FairPoint loses $77 million in 3rd quarter

By The Associated Press

CONCORD, N.H. — Bankrupt FairPoint Communications lost $77 million in the third quarter.

The loss in the quarter that ended Sept. 30, came on revenues of $268.3 million.

The New Hampshire Union Leader says the revenues were off 18.3 percent from the same period in 2008.<

The company said total voice access lines in service fell 9.3 percent in the year between Sept. 30, 2008, and this year.

The Charlotte, N.C.-based FairPoint released the unaudited results in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

FairPoint is the largest landline telephone provider in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. It declared bankruptcy last month.

So far this year FairPoint has lost $103.9 million.

Heres my suprised look.

It's going to be interesting living in the only state in the Union without an RBOC.

A perfect example of a failed infrastructure. Pathetic!

Verizon! VERIZON! We love you. We won't be mean to you any more. Please come back.

Glad I didn't pay my phone bill...

its ok beelzebubba..I pay enough for both of us..so you are covered

The so-called land-line telephone will be a part of history in less than 10 years.

Get rid of the unions.

Scintillate.......Right on and incompetent management!!!!!

Thanks Augusta!

Another fine decision.

That seems unlikely, knowitall. There remain applications for which POTS is the best option and isn't likely to be surpassed. For instance, the last time I checked, a regular hardwired phone line was impervious to atmospheric interference, couldn't be listened in on by anybody with a van and a readily obtainable radio rig, and didn't emit microwave radiation. Even if you're talking about things like Vonage, not wireless, a POTS line works when the power goes off, which isn't the case with most people's home computers/broadband connections. It'll be a niche product in a decade, probably not the default choice of new customers entering the market, but "part of history"? I think not.

I've been trying since August to pay my FairPoint bill, only they never sent me one in August, and since then I've gotten monthly statements saying I have a 122.79 credit! I've called twice. Once I was told they had no idea why I had a 122.79 credit and would investigate it and send me an amended bill. Next statement...122.79 credit. Second call, they told me they had a software glitch that was preventing them from crediting payments. I tried to get them to understand I OWED them, but wasn't sending any money to them til they figured out why my account has a 122.79 credit. Got another statement the other day. Still says I have a 122.79 credit. By the time they ever actually BILL me, I'll probably OWE them that much. And gee, I wonder if they started accepting payments for services, would they still have a deficit...

Not doing any more of their bookkeeping for them. They know where I am LOL.
