LAMOINE, Maine — A Mount Desert man faces charges and a man from Bucksport was arrested after they allegedly sped away from police on Mill Road.

Brent Fournier, 28, of Mount Desert is accused of driving a Porsche at about 30 mph over the speed limit when he evaded police, according to Hancock County Deputy Sheriff Chris Thornton. Thornton indicated in a report that he tried to stop Fournier on Route 184 around midday Tuesday but that Fournier sped away on Mill Road.

Police found the car a short time later at a local home, Thorton wrote. Fournier came out of the house and subsequently was charged with unauthorized use of property, failure to stop for an officer, exceeding the posted speed limit by 30 or more mph and driving to endanger.

Lt. Tim Cote of the Sheriff’s Department said the charge of unauthorized use stems from Fournier’s use of the car. Fournier had permission to move the car in a driveway, but not to take it out on the road, Cote said.

According to Thornton, George E. Taylor IV, 29, of Bucksport, had been riding as a passenger in the car during the speeding incident and was found by police hiding in the house where the car was parked. Taylor was wanted on a warrant for failure to pay fines, the deputy indicated.

Both men were arrested but, according to a corrections officer, as of Wednesday evening they no longer were being held at Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth.
