Rockland gets ready for Festival of Lights

ROCKLAND, Maine — Santa is coming to town today, and he’s arriving in style — on a Coast Guard boat that will dock at noon at the Rockland Public Landing.

His arrival kicks off a weekend of holiday fun during the Festival of Lights.

Other highlights include the traditional lighting of the Lobster Trap Tree, which will take place at 6 p.m. at North Main and Myrtle streets.

On Saturday, featured events are the Share the Wonder Holiday Celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Farnsworth Art Museum, the Festival of Lights Craft & Gift Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Samoset Resort in neighboring Rockport, and the Festival of Lights Parade at 6 p.m. on Main Street, Rockland.

Other activities include free trolley rides between Harbor Plaza and downtown Rockland from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. all weekend and free horse-drawn carriage rides during both afternoons. They leave from Key Bank on Main Street.

Sunday features the Festive Family Pancake Breakfast with Santa from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Tradewinds Motor Inn and Red Jacket Restaurant with a charge of $2 for kids and $5 for adults.
