CHERRYFIELD, Maine - The State Fire Marshal's Office says one man is missing following a fire that swept through a farmhouse in Cherryfield.

The fire broke out before dawn Wednesday in the house on Route 1 and the building was flattened in the blaze. At mid-morning it was still smoldering, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The man's mother, who also lived there, escaped the fire. She told firefighters her son awakened her to tell her his bedroom was on fire and that he was going to get some water in an attempt to extinguish the fire.

whose farm are they referring to?

so sorry to hear. My heart goes out to family & friends.

has anyone heard anything about this story and the missing man?

The farm belonged to Mary and Daryl Farnsworth of Cherryfield. The man that is believed to be missing is their son, Chris.... He was in the house, but fire fighters have not been able to recover his body at this point. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info... I am sorry for this family but yet relieved that it was not the family I was thinking of... Lord help them~

I read on one of the tv news websites that they had found the body of the son in the rubble. They also named Mary Farnsworth as the mother but did not name the son.

so sad.
