Mainers lead rally against war in Afghanistan

By The Associated Press

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine — A pair of peace activists who have organized rallies in Kennebunkport are taking their efforts on the road.

Laurie Dobson, of Kennebunkport, and Jamilla El-Shafei, of Kennebunk, are organizing a demonstration Saturday at Lafayette Park, across from the White House. They’re opposed to President Barack Obama’s decision to send an additional 30,000 U.S. military personnel to Afghanistan.

Dobson, the lead organizer, said she and other protesters from across the country will demand a “peaceful resolution, not an escalation of war” in Afghanistan.

How dare they protest against the immaculate decisions of The One!

The Nobel Peace Prize Winner will be too busy playing golf to hear their drumming or smell their dreadlocks.

Send them both to Afghanistan to talk to the terrorists, if they can create a lasting oeace then bless them both. To many flatlanders have moved into southern Maine and it looks like there is another pair to not take seriously. By the way does that secondly named one happen to be a muslim?

Can't we, can't we just give war a chance?

poormaniac, we're not supposed to question anything muslim on these posts, everytime I make reference to muslims in a post it magically dissappears from the blog.....( I think your observation is correct, though)

.

These 2 peace activists really should just calm down. From what I have read , our troops will mostly be serving as "peacekeepers" and training Afghanies to fight for themselves after Obama begins pulling our troops out in 2011.....just in time for his 2012 run for re-election.......

.

It will be interesting to see how the media and this administration "labels" these peace demonstrators.....I wonder if they will be profiled as suspects for "domestic terrorism" like the "tea bagger protesters" are........

These otherwise well-intentioned folks need to ask themselves, "Why is there terrorism?"

Maybe they need to find something a little more productive to do..

Good work you two! Keep it up. There was a demonstration in Lafayette Park Sat. Dec. 12 calling for an end to the war and there should be one every day until the madness is stopped.

On Saturday, March 20, 2010, there will be a mass National March & Rally in D.C. People from all over the country are organizing to converge on Washington, D.C., to demand the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all U.S. and NATO forces from Afghanistan and Iraq. Details at www.answercoalition.org

I was hoping Obama would send 100,000 troops.

I guess I won't be invited to the rally.

Sending these ladies to Aphganistan to speak to the Terrorists is a great idea. While they are at it take Jane Sheehan and her ilk right along with them.
