BANGOR, Maine — Maine health officials say the state now has enough swine flu vaccine to offer it to all who want to be vaccinated.

Dr. Dora Anne Mills, director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, says the state received a large shipment of vaccine on Monday, bringing the total number of doses to 500,000.

Mills says there are now enough doses for those in the high-risk population and the rest of the state’s population.

Health officials urge everyone to get vaccinated.

So far, 13 people in Maine have died from complications related to swine flu, but the number of H1N1 diagnoses has been decreasing.

Health officials say they still expect the virus to continue circulating for months or years.

An H1N1 flu vaccine clinic that was postponed last week because of weather was held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Bangor Civic Center.

According to Patty Hamilton, the city’s public health director, the vaccine initially was made available to individuals at higher risk for serious complications of influenza, such as pregnant women and children. By early afternoon, the vaccine was made available to whoever wanted it.

" By early afternoon, the vaccine was made available to whoever wanted it."

Thanks for the update half way in the day when those who were not a high risk but wanted one were going about their business. I am sure those folks appreciate it. Funny how this news comes out on the heels of a recent article stating the swine flu may have met its peak here in Maine. Hey look everyone after a dozen or so people died and we all are urged to do this that these and those, we finally got some vaccinations!

it's amazing the power of propaganda

Goodness, people, give the public health folks a break. They're just doing their job, which happens to include communicating to keep us all informed. This stuff changes quickly, they have to coordinate with many other entities, and they cannot control how quickly vaccines grow in a lab or how they are distributed to the states. Maine public health people have been working very hard to keep on top of these changes and keep the public and the healthcare system well informed. I think they have done a fine job handling a disease that did not exist in this form a year ago.

What the Inventor of the Flu Shot NOW Thinks of the Vaccine...

Increasing numbers of scientists and doctors are issuing harsh criticisms of the government’s plan to vaccinate virtually the entire U.S. population with a poorly tested vaccine that is not only ineffective against swine flu, but could cripple and even kill many more people than it helps.

The CDC’s public relations campaign has been running “scare” ads that portray swine flu as a full-blown “pandemic” responsible for snuffing out countless lives. But scientists and health officials throughout the world have called the governments claims unjustified and deliberately misleading.

the British Neurological Surveillance Unit (BNSU) warned of “the Government’s concern about releasing a vaccine of unknown safety.” and has alerted its members to be on the alert for an up to 8-fold increase in Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) due to the Vaccines that are the subject of this Petition.

WHAT'S IN A FLU SHOT?

Egg proteins and viruses linked to

autoimmune diseases and cancers; Gelatin and Polysorbate

80 (Tween80): known to cause allergic reactions

and anaphylaxis; Formaldehyde: known carcinogen, used

to preserve corpses; Triton X100: a strong detergent; Resins:

known to cause allergic reactions; Gentamycin: an antibiotic;

Thimerosal: Mercury linked to autism, Alzheimers’, MS, and

Parkinson’s Disease—far deadlier when injected into your

blood than when you eat tuna fish; Aluminum neurotoxin.

And if you'll pardon me for adding,

SWINE FLU VACCINE SHOULD NOT BE GIVE TO CHILDREN IN SCHOOLS, Barbara Loe Fisher, National Vaccine Information Center, 22 July 2009, http://www.nvic.org/NVIC-Vaccine-News/July-2009/Swine-Flu-Vaccine-Should-Not-Be-Given-to-Children.aspx

Yes, the rest of the nation realizes that the pandemic scare is over so there is enough to ship to Maine where sheeple will be urged to continue taking it. If this had been a real pandemic of any kind we would have lost. Lesson-- don't rely on government. Since government cannot be relied upon it should be trimmed to the level of its effectiveness.

Hype and Panic.........

Gotta love the Registered Nurse with a syringe cap hanging out of her mouth while giving an injection.......pro...

I don't think photos of the children crying while getting a shot will help get people out there to "use" up this vaccine either...... :)

They are recalling something like 800K doses of the vaccine.

those kids faces are priceless..

Wow, I had not heard about the recall on all that vaccine!!

justmyopinion625: Yes, and it is starting to feel like "overkill." I thought the same thing when seeing these same kind of photos in the media, over and over. There must be another way to "promote" getting those vaccine shots!

Fox News:)

They said it wasn't dangerous but it lost its potency..

It is not gonna hurt school kids, i have had it done my kid has had it done and we are all fine. We are healthy living and moving right along

Agreed chersully! Poor kids :(

Yep dkenzie and either you or your insurance or us the taxpayers paid for you and your kid to get the shot that ( as of this afternoon ) they have admitted is absolutely useless. Lost its effectiveness weeks before it was given! So no it won't hurt ya... unless of course you got the batch with squalene but that might take a few months before the lupus shows up. And you might a got that batch that is causing an 8 x greater incidence of Gullian Barre. Or ya might a got the expired worthless dose and aren't anymore protected than I am! Funny how some states such as Ohio were 2 weeks ago giving their 2nd doses to the general public yet Maine can't even get enough to do their at risk guinea pigs!

I think someone may need a tissue????????

Yes, it was a very busy day where many children and their families received their vaccinations. Many volunteers and others who planned this long awaited public health clinic worked many hours to ensure that waiting was minimal and that everyone's needs were met. No principles of public health or nursing were violated. It was simply a matter of needing a third hand. If a child is squirming when receiving an injection, it could hurt the child more than the injection and even result in the breaking off of a needle in the child's skin. No child was left screaming after an injection, and the nurses were sensitive to the needs of the parents and the children, taking time to reassure them and console them. In addition, the parents gave their consent to have the photo published. Anybody who wants to criticize or complain could perhaps offer to volunteer at one of these clinics next time and see what it is like to work for 12 hours straight and keep a smile on your face and show a caring attitude.

its not now that you would feel any effects from a shot its down the road the long term effects with the shot, this shot was never needed and it reminds us once again that the U.S. is not prepared for an emergency regardless of the situation. This flu was a bunch of B>S> from the get go and the vaccine was never given enough time to be tested, i do pray for any pregant women that may have gotten the shot that their were no problems, they never tested the vaccine of pregnant or nursing mothers either, FDA recommended it but yet the people that tested and made the vaccine didn't recommend it????

I agree Kathy....

As I say they are recalling 800,000 doses of the vacine..

"Drs." Otherwise (other-than-wise) and REALITY haven't learned to stop giving the sameold, sameold (non) data. Tele, yes 800k does are being recallled (but most have probably already been given). They were not "ineffective" but less effective than they should have been. They did not contain thimerosal [a possible reason?]. Any child who received a booster shot has enough protection (I heard no data but the effectivenes must be more than 50% of optimal).

I agree with all the supporters. Volunteer at a clinic and then make your gripes (and don't make false assumptions about photo permission, etc.). Then again, if your chief pasttime is griping ...

Wrong Paid twenty five dollars ty

Wow...This Nurse Gray I can guarantee will get a lovely talkin to after this photo! What Nurse in their right mind uses their MOUTH to remove a needle cap?? That is so unsanitary and is violating all Universal Precautions in place to protect the consumer as well as the Healthcare worker. She wears gloves yet uses her unsanitary mouth to remove the cap. Guaranteed Discipline right there.

That photo is distasteful ........what a choice of a photo......plus this nurse needs to learn, or re-learn, sanitary protocols, etc.
